Chapter 153: I Thought I Knew
A Lu Zhi looked at the old woman and asked, "Aunty, then why are you still here? Are other villages’ situations the same as this village?"
The old woman sighed, looked at the sky and said, "I am an old woman who can neither work nor walk anymore. Why should I follow and burden others for an uncertain possibility? It is still better for me to stay and guard the ancestral land until my last breath. As for other villages, most of them have been abandoned, or there are only a few old people left like this village."
Hearing what the old woman said, A Lu Zhi finally knew why there were only these old people left in this village. No wonder he hasn’t seen anyone else around for so long. What’s more, this village looks desolate and too quiet, like a dead place.
After getting the information they needed, A Lu Zhi smiled at the villagers and said, "Thank you for answering our questions. I wish you a happy life. Goodbye."
After saying goodbye to the villagers, A Lu Zhi and A Lu Yu went back to their group. The villagers watched their backs in silence as they walked away.
When they couldn’t see the two brothers again, the oldest man sighed and said, "The world is dying. All we can do is pray for a better world where the younger generation can continue to live on."
After leaving Feng Shu Village, A Lu Yu and A Lu Zhi walked in silence. A Lu Zhi glanced at his second elder brother and asked, "Second Elder Brother, do you think it’s wrong for me to lead everyone to leave our homeland?"
Hearing his fourth younger brother’s question, A Lu Yu raised his eyebrows. He touched his chin, thought for a while, and asked, "Why do you think you are wrong?"
Lowering his eyes, A Lu Zhi said, "According to those villagers, the outside world is no better than our homeland. There are natural disasters, wars, refugees and homeless people. Can we survive in such a world?"
