Chapter 52: Crossing The Bridge
Xiao Shao nodded to his mother, then glanced at Xu Xiang again. Seeing her calm expression, the corners of his lips curled up slightly. Looking at the ancient wooden bridge in front of him, his face became serious. With a flick of the rein, the mule began to walk slowly.
Drak~ Drak~ Creak~
The creaking sound of the board being stepped on by the mule made everyone’s hearts tighten instantly. Standing behind, they saw Xiao Shao carefully driving the mule cart across the bridge. Every time they saw part of the wooden plank falling into the deep ravine, their hearts sank.
After a long time, the mule cart finally crossed the bridge safely. Seeing Xiao Shao getting off the mule cart, the members of the Xiao family breathed a sigh of relief. Xiao Shao waved his hand and signaled Xiao Han to start crossing the bridge.
Xiao Han nodded at his elder brother, and shook the reins of the mule in his hand. When the mule is flicked by the reins, it begins to walk slowly. After more than twenty minutes, Xiao Han followed the example of his elder brother and crossed the bridge safely.
Seeing this, Xiao Shao motioned for them to start crossing the bridge. Xu Xiang glanced at Fan Zhengyin and said, "Second Young Master Fan, please cross the bridge first."
Fan Zhengyin nodded at Xu Xiang while carrying his elder brother on his back, and walked towards the wooden bridge. Looking at the weathered old bridge, he took a deep breath and stepped on the wooden plank. As soon as he stepped on the wooden plank, the wooden plank broke and he almost fell into the ravine.
"Watch out!"
Xu Xiang reacted quickly, grabbed his hand and caught him. She supported him to stabilize his body before letting go, and said, "Be careful. You bear the weight of two men, which is even more dangerous. Try to step on the edge of the board when walking."
