Chapter 23: You Can’t Help Everyone
After handing the bowl of mineral water to the thin woman, Xu Xiang got into the mule cart again. This time, she took out a piece of paper, a box of milk, a box of cereal and a water bag from the space. She rewrapped the cereal in paper and poured the milk into the water bag. After that, she put the empty cereal and milk cartons back in her space.
Lifting the mule cart cover, Xu Xiang saw the thin woman still standing there with an empty bowl. Seeing her coming out, the thin woman handed over the empty bowl with both hands, and bowed deeply to her.
"Thank you very much, young lady." She said with tears in her eyes.
Xu Xiang took the empty bowl from the thin woman's hand, and put the pack of cereal and the water bag containing milk in her bony hands. When Xu Xiang put the things in her hand, the thin woman looked up at her in surprise. She just stared blankly at the things in her hands until she heard Xu Xiang's calm voice.
"I can only help you this much."
When she came back to her senses, the thin woman quickly knelt down and said, "I will never forget this kindness in my life. Thank you for saving my son's life."
Before her head hit the hard ground, Xu Xiang helped her to stand up. Seeing that the other officers were already awake, she said, "Go. Keep the food and water safe. I'm not responsible for you if anything happens."
The thin woman nodded and said, "Thank you, Young Lady. Thank you very much."
Xu Xiang looked at her thin back, thinking that this world is worse than the apocalypse world. At least in the apocalyptic world, human beings still have the opportunity to awaken their own abilities and be strong enough to survive. But in this world, the situation is not much different from the apocalypse world, except that human beings are too weak to survive.
