Chapter 7: The Assassins
Xu Xiang put down the dry twigs and started to light the fire. She turned her back to them, looked left and right. After making sure that no one paid attention to what she was doing, she quickly took out a mini torch and lit the dry twigs. A few seconds later, she quickly put the mini torch back after lit up the dry twigs.
Sitting not far from her, Xiao Han praised her politely. "Miss Xu, you are so skillful. It only takes a few seconds for you to start a fire. Even my eldest brother needs a few minutes to make a bonfire."
"Hahaha... Is that so?" She laughed, but didn't dare to look at Xiao Han directly, since she was not too good at lying.
Seeing that she didn't dare to look at him, Xiao Han raised his eyebrows and didn't speak. He just sat there, quietly observing Xu Xiang.
After gutting the two birds, Xu Xiang skewers them on twigs. She stuck the twigs in the ground, secured it with a few rocks, and washed her hands with water without letting anyone see. After a while, the aroma of grilled meat spread around.
The hungry people around sniffed the air and stared greedily at the birds she was roasting. She ignored them, but broke the smaller roasted bird in half, and handed the other half to Xiao Han.
"Here, for you."
Xiao Han was surprised, and took the roast bird in a daze. Then she took another roasted bird and gave it to Xiao Jing. "Miss Xiao, please enjoy this with your parents."
Blinking her eyes, Xiao Jing looked at the roasted bird on her hand and swallowed. When she came back to her senses, she blushed and said quickly, "No, no, no. We can't accept this."
Turning to look at her younger brother, she said, "Er Lang, quickly return the grilled bird to Miss Xu."
Looking at their expressions, Xu Xiang knew that they were really hungry. Knowing that she couldn't win by talking, she directly put the grilled bird to Xiao Jing's hand, turned around and left.
Xu Xiang sat down under a dead tree not far from the Xiao family's place, and observed the Xiao family while eating her grilled birds. As she took her fourth bite, she watched as they finally divided the grilled bird among them.
