The Stonehearted Knight

Chapter 267: The shifting sand (1)

"Treasures? Here?"

Hex didn’t believe it. Sterling wasn’t one to joke about treasures. That he knew. But looking at a vast landscape filled with only sand, he couldn’t fathom how it could have something of value.

"Hard to believe, isn’t it?" Sterling sniggered. "There are many things of value buried under all this sand. They are either hard to find or dangerous to retrieve. People still manage to find them. Treasure seekers, scavengers, nomadic tribes, everyone who wanders long enough in this place finds something. It makes them rich, crazy, or dead."

Hex knew the silver-haired man tended to be dramatic. The flickering light of the small campfire they had lit, helped him with it. The warmth was nice too.

No one ever mentioned that the nights in this land of sand could be as cold as the nights high in the mountains. Thanks to his Ice element, Hex didn’t suffer much. But he saw others shivering.

It had taken some time for the people to regain consciousness. The crew on the deck and the crew manning the flow runes on the lowest deck, all suffered the most injuries.

The people in the middle deck remained safest. Only when they used the broken pieces of the boat to set up a camp on the hill, did Hex realize the number of things and people on board.

While helping shift the injured, Hex did a quick head count. There were over forty crew members and staff. For about twenty passengers. Every person on board, be it crew or passenger, was at the Knight stage at least.

The highest were Refined Knights, with one exception – the old man at the Enlightened Stage. Hex recognized him despite the bag-of-bones look of the man.
