Marvel: Infinite Personalities

Chapter 237 - 237: Grand Knocking (1)

"You bastard!"

Seeing Bishop completely break down, Logan's bad temper exploded. He raised his fist and rushed toward Raymond, ready to punch him.

Of course, he still had some restraint—he didn't pop out those signature Adamantium claws of his. He just wanted to teach Raymond a little lesson.

Professor's sub-personality frowned slightly, planning to temporarily control Logan before he provoked Raymond further.

Even though he and Raymond were technically "on the same side," that didn't mean Raymond had to follow his lead.

After all, Raymond was the main personality—the one with absolute authority.

If Raymond really got angry, even if he killed Logan, the professor's sub-personality wouldn't be able to say a word against it.

So he only wanted to stop Logan from doing something stupid.

But before he could make a move, Logan suddenly froze in place, completely unable to move…

"Erik?"

The professor's sub-personality looked toward his old friend in surprise.

Because the one who had acted before him and stopped Logan by force… was Magneto.

"Let him finish talking," Magneto said calmly to Logan before releasing him.

Logan glared at Raymond unhappily but didn't make another move.

Raymond didn't even bother looking at him.

If the professor's sub-personality hadn't pleaded with him mentally, Raymond would've made sure Logan remembered this lesson the hard way.

"What I'm saying… most of you already know," Raymond said, sweeping his gaze over the group with a hint of pity. "You just keep lying to yourselves. Because deep down, you know—if even Shadowcat's power can't save you, then you've already lost your only hope."

"Sending him back to the beginning of the past, changing the original timeline—do you really think that will save you?"

He pointed at Logan and shook his head. "No. That will only save the versions of you in that timeline. It has nothing to do with the people standing here now."

"They won't have your memories. If no one tells them, they won't even know you ever existed. Do I really need to explain what that means?" ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ novel{f}ire.net

With that, Raymond stopped talking.

As he said, these people didn't need him to explain basic time-travel logic.

He didn't have to be Beast or Professor's sub-personality to know they understood—even someone as straightforward as Logan knew about time travel and parallel worlds.

Those concepts had been in children's science books for decades. Did he really need to spell it out?

He had only torn open the illusion they refused to face.

And his own existence was proof enough of what he said—that parallel worlds were real.

If both Raymond and Professor's sub-personality were telling the truth, then it was certain: time travel couldn't change the past.

Changing the past was just a false idea—a comforting lie.

All this time, the "ace up their sleeve" had been nothing more than a cruel joke.

The room fell silent.

No one spoke. No one knew what to say.

The truth was too brutal—so brutal that it left many of them utterly hopeless.

"So… when they attack next time, we'll all die… right?"

A young mutant girl, no older than twelve or thirteen, asked timidly.

Her voice trembled. Her eyes were red with fear.

"No, you won't. Don't be scared," Raymond said softly.

The girl nodded, but her expression showed she didn't really believe him.

Beside her, a slightly older but still petite woman gently stroked her hair, trying to calm her. Then she looked at Raymond and said, "Are you happy now?"

From Professor's sub-personality's thoughts, Raymond already knew that this petite woman was Shadowcat.

"Happy about what?" Raymond asked back.

"You really are cruel," Shadowcat said coldly.

Raymond just smiled and shook his head. "If I want to save you, I have to make you face the truth you're all afraid to admit."

"This simple bit of logic shouldn't even need me to explain it, don't you think? Miss Shadowcat, Mr. Beast… and you too, Professor?"

The people he called out looked visibly uneasy—even Professor's sub-personality couldn't hide his discomfort.

Even those whose names hadn't been called lowered their heads, looking uneasy and guilty.

Their reactions didn't escape Magneto and Logan's eyes, and both men felt their hearts sink.

"Is that true, Hank?" Logan immediately turned to Beast, waiting for his answer.

Beast wasn't just the X-Men's chief scientist—he was the smartest person in their little mutant group. If anyone knew the truth, it'd be him.

Under Logan's intense stare, Beast's scalp prickled. He hesitated before saying, "Maybe…"

"What do you mean maybe?!" Logan roared.

"It means… it's a possibility. But one with a very high chance of being true," Professor's sub-personality sighed deeply from the side.

"You knew all along?" Logan's anger flared again.

"Hank realized it a long time ago," the professor's sub-personality admitted. "He came to me to talk about it privately, and in the end, we decided it was better not to tell anyone."

"You two bastards!"

Logan cursed furiously, then turned and stomped toward the tunnel leading outside. He knew if he stayed, he'd lose control.

"So, you both knew my plan was almost impossible… that it was all just my delusion," Magneto murmured, looking lost.

"No," the professor's sub-personality said gently. "I never thought it was a delusion. Even if the chance of changing the past was less than three percent, it was still our only choice at the time. I don't think you were wrong."

"Until you saw another choice?" Magneto's gaze shifted toward Raymond.

"That's right," the professor's sub-personality nodded.

"And you trust him that much?"

"It's not trust," the professor replied firmly. "It's certainty. I know he can."
