Chapter 79 79: No matter how much trouble a small country makes, it is just child's play in the eyes of the five major countries
Five days slipped by in the blink of an eye, filled with intensive special training and the occasional small skirmish.
With the Chunin Exams drawing closer, there had been nothing particularly dramatic arranged in the dream world. No events stirred the kind of overwhelming emotions that fueled the system.
Aren glanced at the figures on his system panel, feeling helpless.
[Current Emotional Value Balance: 330,931 points]
[Current Dream Level: Level 4 (385,431 / 400,000)]
Five full days had passed without the kind of intense bursts of feeling that could drive his growth. The pace of emotional gain had slowed to a crawl still more than ten thousand points away from the next system upgrade.
But Aren wasn't discouraged.
The real climax will come with the start of the Chunin Exams. When that begins, emotions will surge like a flood.
On the fifth day, under the tireless labor of countless craftsmen and villagers of the Land of Waves and with the unwavering protection of Team 7 the great bridge was finally complete.
The moment the last stone was set in place, closing the span across the sea, thunderous cheers erupted along the coastline.
The bridge, a symbol of hope and the future, stood proudly over the waters, connecting the isolated Land of Waves to the mainland.
Villagers swarmed onto the bridge, their faces alight with joy.
For Team 7, this also meant their escort mission had finally reached its end.
Dazna originally wished to bring his grandson Inari along to Konoha.
Part of him wanted to personally thank the Hokage and express his people's gratitude for Konoha's selfless aid.
But more than that, he hoped to secure deeper ties support and protection from the powerful Leaf Village.
The bridge now connected the Land of Waves directly to the Fire Country. Future trade, growth, and security would inevitably rely on Konoha.
In the past days, Dazna had come to a sobering realization:
No matter how much chaos Gatō had sown in the Land of Waves, compared to the influence of the great nations, it was nothing. A petty storm against a towering mountain.
Only with Konoha's continued support could the Land of Waves truly achieve lasting stability and prosperity.
But Kakashi was in no mood to linger.
The unease in his heart only grew suspicions about Orochimaru, concern for Konoha's safety, and the strange signals within the dreams. They were alarm bells he couldn't ignore.
He declined Dazna's request politely, promising to deliver the Wave Country's gratitude to the Third Hokage in full.
Then, under the tearful, grateful gazes of villagers who crowded the streets to see them off, Team 7 departed.
They pushed themselves hard on the road back.
Kakashi drove the pace to the limit, and Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura clenched their teeth, forcing themselves to keep up without complaint.
By the time Team 7 crossed Konoha's gates, they were exhausted.
The sun was already sinking, painting the sky in hues of fire. The evening glow stretched across the village, dyeing half the heavens a deep crimson.
As soon as they passed through the great wooden gates of Konoha the symbol of home and safety Kakashi stopped abruptly.
"I have urgent matters to attend to," he said simply. Without offering even a word of advice to his tired students, his figure flickered and vanished down the street like a ghost.
"Phew… I'm exhausted. I'm seriously gonna die here "
Naruto collapsed onto a stone bench near the gate, chest heaving. He glared in the direction Kakashi had gone. "That guy… Kakashi-sensei is always in such a hurry. What's he even rushing off to do? Seriously "
Sasuke didn't bother to respond. Silently, he found a clean rock nearby, sat down, and closed his eyes. His breathing steadied as he carefully adjusted his chakra, disrupted from the relentless march.
Sakura sat as well, pulling a water flask from her pouch and sipping slowly.
Naruto rubbed at his sticky arms, grimacing. Dirt clumped beneath his fingers until it rolled into little mud balls. He stretched and groaned. "Sasuke, Sakura we've been on the road forever, and we stink! How about we hit the hot springs? A bath will feel amazing right now!"
At that, Sasuke cracked open his dark eyes. For a moment, he considered, then gave a faint nod. "Fine. There's nothing pressing to do tonight anyway. Might as well relax."
Sakura shook her head with a small smile. "I'll pass. I've been away from home for five days I miss it too much. You two go ahead."
And so, at the village gate, Team 7 split ways.
Sakura walked off toward her home.
Naruto and Sasuke turned down the street together, heading for Konoha no Yu.
On the way, they quickly noticed the change in Konoha's atmosphere.
The streets were far busier than before. Groups of unfamiliar shinobi moved through the crowds forehead protectors gleaming with symbols of other villages. They spoke in varied accents, some striding purposefully, others strolling casually.
The usual peace of the village was mixed now with an unfamiliar tension and noisy energy.
Naruto and Sasuke exchanged a glance. In their eyes flickered the same thought excitement and anticipation.
The Chunin Exams.
They were about to begin.
But for now, nothing could stop them from enjoying a well-earned bath.
Inside Konoha no Yu.
The warm mist clung to the air, thick with the mingled scent of sulfur and herbs. Steam rose in curling waves from the pools, where the gentle sound of water echoed off the stone walls.
At this hour, the bathhouse wasn't too crowded. Most of the patrons were small groups of shinobi, weary from missions and speaking quietly among themselves.
Naruto and Sasuke paid at the counter, exchanged for bath coins and locker keys, then quickly shed their dusty clothes. Moments later, they stepped into the steaming men's bath.
"Wow this feels amazing!"
The instant Naruto slid into the hot water, every ache in his body seemed to melt away. His face lit up in bliss as he sank until only his blond head bobbed above the surface. A contented sigh escaped him, followed by a happy little hum.
Sasuke's reaction was quieter, but no less real. He eased himself into a corner of the pool, leaned against the smooth stone wall, and let his eyes close. The heat seeped into his muscles, chasing away soreness.
For once, even his restless mind grew calm.
In the embrace of the hot spring, both boys let themselves relax, savoring the fleeting peace.
Suddenly, Sasuke's brows twitched, his once calm expression sharpening into full alertness.
Huh?
What's going on? What's that guy doing?
Through the rising steam, Sasuke spotted a suspicious figure crouched against the wooden wall that separated the men's and women's baths. The man's posture was vulgar and unmistakable head pressed against the wall, shifting his hips as he tried to adjust his angle. His eager eyes were fixed on the cracks of the divider, clearly trying to peek into the women's side.
Thanks to his "internship" in the police force during the dream world, Sasuke had learned to recognize shady behavior instantly.
The "suspect" was a towering man with wild, waist-length white hair that spread out like a lion's mane. Draped over his forehead protector was a bold kanji Oil.
Despite the obscene act, his face was oddly focused, almost scholarly, as though this perversion was some sort of "serious research."
But this was the men's side. And next door, beyond that wall
It didn't take a genius to know it was the women's bath!
Sasuke's face darkened immediately.
In broad daylight, in Konoha's public hot spring, someone actually dared to commit such a vulgar act so brazenly?
It was beyond shameless. It was unforgivable.
He nudged Naruto sharply with his elbow.
"Eh? What is it, Sasuke?" Naruto groaned, annoyed at the interruption. He blinked his bright blue eyes in confusion.
Sasuke's cold face tilted toward the corner. With a subtle jerk of his chin, he signaled Naruto to look.
Naruto followed his gaze and froze.
Then, his jaw dropped. His eyes nearly bulged from his head as the realization sank in.
The strange white-haired uncle's movements, his stance, his lecherous intent it was unmistakable.
Naruto's face turned red with fury.
"Wha ?! He's peeping! In broad daylight! You disgusting old pervert, I'll teach you a lesson!"
Naruto jumped to his feet, pointing accusingly.
But before he could shout any further, the white-haired man vanished in a blur.
Sasuke's Sharingan reflexes screamed, yet he still couldn't track the movement. One instant the man was crouching by the wall the next, he was standing directly in front of Naruto.
A huge hand, wide as a fan, clamped firmly over Naruto's mouth.
"Shhh!"
The stranger's stern face leaned close, his brows furrowed in irritation.
"Pipe down, brat. If we get caught, my grand mission of gathering research materials will be ruined. This is a sacrifice for the sake of art. You kids wouldn't understand."
Naruto squirmed and flailed, muffled cries of "Wuwuwu !" spilling past the man's rough hand. No matter how he struggled, he couldn't break free the man's strength was overwhelming.
Sasuke stood frozen, shock rippling through him.
What kind of speed was that?
I couldn't even follow his movements…
Could this white-haired uncle's strength be far greater than Kakashi-sensei's?
