Chapter 35
A rooster's crow heralded the arrival of a new day.
Wei Wenwu rose early, tidied himself up, and pulled out a white shirt from the bottom of his chest, carefully preserved. He thought about pairing it with a tie, but after rummaging through the cabinet, he only found a red scarf his son had left behind years ago.
"Woof, woof, woof!" The big yellow dog at the door barked twice, wagging its tail and grinning at Wei Wenwu.
Wei Wenwu smoothed the wrinkles on his shirt, stuffed his hands into his pockets, and snapped, "What're you barking for? Horny for Xiaohua again?"
With that, he strode off with purposeful steps.
"Hey, isn't that Sister Lijuan? And Sanshui's here too?" As he locked the gate, two figures approached—Shen Lijuan and Li Sanshui.
Wei Wenwu flashed a forced smile, greeting them. His eyes drifted to the full curves straining against Shen Lijuan's blouse.
They say a widow's door attracts trouble, but Shen Lijuan had avoided gossip. Not because men didn't come around—she ran the village store, so men were always there. Plus, she lived under the same roof as a man, eating and sleeping side by side. Yet, no one had ever claimed to have climbed into her bed.
But times had changed. Shen Lijuan was at his door now. Having been village chief for years, Wei Wenwu had enough cunning to guess why.
"Village chief, heading out? Off to the hospital to see Chen Tianming?" Shen Lijuan gave a faint smile, her oval face revealing two shallow dimples.
Wearing a floral silk blouse and simple cropped pants, her slender, pale legs gleamed like a vibrant peony, tempting enough to take a bite.
