Chapter 38: Buying Mrs Jackson’s Company!
Inside the interrogating room of South City Police Station...
A detective sat opposite the captain, a metallic table that bounced off the overhead lamplight standing between them. The man, having ginger beards and earrings on, simply scrolled through some files — he just came inside a few seconds ago, and didn’t say a thing till now.
He hummed as he scrolled the pages, chewing a gum slowly.
One moment, he asked the captain without looking up, "Can you confirm your name for me, please?"
The captain replied in a slow, relaxed manner, "Cade Jones."
"Uhm, nice name there," the detective commended in a low voice, nodding his head and scrolled more and more of the files.
Soon afterwards, he glanced right up and said to him, "Well, I am Detective Haxton. Just so you know, Mister... Jones. I am here just to ask you one or two questions, so we can confirm you’re innocent and let you go—"
"When did I tell you I was innocent?" Cade cut in, tilting his head as he held a stare on the detective.
The guy chuckled two times out of astonishment and surprise... Because, who in the right state of mind would say that?
"Well, are you saying you’re guilty then?" Detective Haxton asked in both slight tease and frankness, smiling at the end.
The captain exhaled silently, squaring his shoulders.
