Chapter 196: Attention
Lucas’s eyes flicked up from the page, green bright with equal parts disbelief and irritation. "You cannot be serious."
Trevor’s mouth curved into that dangerous little half‑smile, the kind that said he knew exactly how to ruin a morning without even trying. "Mm. Just a quick drop‑in. He said something about checking the guest wing... and reminding me of some old agreement I’m definitely going to ignore."
Lucas closed the book slowly, deliberately, his expression caught somewhere between murderous and resigned. "You knew. You knew, and you let me think we had peace."
Trevor tipped his head back against the headboard, his laughter low and unrepentant. "Technically, we do have peace... for the next few hours."
Lucas pressed the book to his chest like a shield. "Trevor Fitzgeralt, if that man even knocks on this door before I’ve had breakfast and an uninterrupted day of laziness, I swear..."
"You’ll what?" Trevor interrupted, catching his wrist with a sudden, easy movement and pulling him closer. "Throw your book at him? Ban him from the ceremony? Tell Cressida?"
Lucas blinked once, then let his smirk unfurl slow and sharp. "All three. In that order."
Trevor laughed again, quieter this time, resting his forehead against Lucas’s temple. "I should’ve known better than to mention him."
"You should have," Lucas said, shifting until he was straddling Trevor’s lap again, tucking his book behind him with deliberate care, as if setting a stage. His knee pressed lightly into the mattress, his green eyes glinting with mock accusation. "Now we’ll have your ex in the manor."
Trevor’s brows shot up, his hands finding Lucas’s hips automatically. "I’ve never been with Dax," he said flatly, though there was a faint edge of disbelief in his tone, as if the very idea was absurd. "Please... just forget about that."
