Chapter 121: Mutual desire
The car swam in silence. Just the low hum of the engine, the hush of tires over smooth asphalt, and the slow, uneven rhythm of their breathing. The cabin was warm, dim, edged with gold from passing lights. The scent of wine lingered faintly between them, mingling with something sharper, Lucas’s pheromones, delicate but unmistakable.
The leather creaked softly as Trevor shifted, hands steady, and eased Lucas into his lap. Lucas straddled him without protest, thighs bracketing Trevor’s hips, arms resting on his shoulders like he’d done this before.
Trevor exhaled once through his nose, his gaze locked onto Lucas’s face. Up close, everything felt sharper: the line of his jaw, the dark flutter of his lashes, the barely parted lips that were still glossed from the wine they had shared. Trevor’s senses were overwhelmed by his warm, heady, and faintly sweet scent, leaving him breathless.
Lucas’s fingers toyed absently with the collar of Trevor’s shirt, his gaze heavy-lidded but steady. His breath came in soft exhales, warm against Trevor’s cheek. There was no fear in him. No flinching. Only that quiet boldness Trevor had come to crave, the way Lucas gave himself fully but never completely, like he could disappear if mishandled.
Trevor’s hand was still on his waist, fingers flexing slightly as if he was testing the give of Lucas’s flesh beneath his grip. The other hand had moved from the nape of his neck to cup his jaw, tilting his face up just enough for their eyes to meet. In the dim light, Trevor’s gaze was sharp, predatory.
"You’re staring," Lucas murmured, his voice lower than he intended, the words catching in his throat.
Trevor’s thumb brushed over his cheekbone, gentle in contrast to the intensity in his eyes. "I like the way you look when flustered. Even more when it is because of me."
Lucas’s lips curved, slow and sharp. "You’re assuming it’s because of you."
Trevor didn’t rise to the bait. He leaned in instead, close enough that their breaths mingled, that his thumb could trail from Lucas’s cheekbone to the corner of his mouth.
"I’m not assuming," he said, voice low. "I can feel it."
