Chapter 36: The Formation
“Look, there’s a cave over there!” A Daoist pointed to the right.
Everyone turned their heads and indeed saw a cave at the base of the rock wall. Its entrance was wide enough for three people to walk side by side. Inside, it was pitch black, with no end in sight. A cold, sinister aura wafted faintly from within.
“This must be the lair of the evil creature. Shao Gongzi must have been taken inside!” Hu Fu’s eyes lit up, and he charged forward with his peachwood sword.
“Wait!” Bai Yu quickly grabbed him. After carefully examining the cave entrance, he felt that the aura was strangely familiar, very much like that of a certain female ghost. He warned, “Daoist friend, the yin aura here is extremely strong. What lies within may very well be a fierce ghost. It’s best not to rush in recklessly.”
“Hmph, mere yin energy. We are cultivators—what is there to fear?” Hu Fu snorted coldly and shook Bai Yu off. He paid no heed to the warning, eager only to be the first to rescue Shao Xian. “If you’re afraid of death, don’t follow!” With that, he strode straight into the cave.
“Hey, you—” Bai Yu tried to stop him, but it was too late.
Seeing someone take the lead, the others hesitated briefly before also pulling out their magical tools, preparing to enter. Fierce ghosts were dangerous, yes, but with so many of them together, they might manage.
Unable to stop them, Bai Yu grew anxious. He turned to Yun Jiao. “Girl, what do we do? Should we go too?”
Yun Jiao looked at the cave mouth. Tendrils of black mist seeped outward. She shook her head. “Don’t you see the words written there?”
