Bloodbound To My Four Archenemies.

Chapter 31: Something to cry about.

June 17 2026, 8:45am.

Nyx’ara woke up to heat.

A scorching kind of heat that seemed to burn through the gauze wrapped around her body, straight to her skin.

She sat up with a start, her breath hitching in her chest when she found the source of the heat— the cat— all curled up by her side, its furry head pressed against her free arm.

For a split second, she wanted to reach out and pat its head. She wanted to pull it closer and pepper kisses on its face, but upon remembering who the real owner of the cat was,the girl who she had apparently killed, she retracted her hand.

"N-no po-point esta-stablishing a fren-friendship with an a-animal that should hate me."

That thought was the only thing in her head as she rose from the bed, but not before helping the cat into a more comfortable position. She made her way into the luxurious bathroom, splashed some water on her face, and froze when she realized that...

Her back hardly hurt!

Goddess, this was the first time in forever! This was the very first time she could lift her hands without wincing in agony in three years. It was the first time she could style her waist-length hair into a ponytail in three years.

A small smile of gratitude touched her face but upon remembering ’how’ this came to happen, she stilled.

The quad Alphas had helped her. They had called a doctor to check on her. They had even sounded ’almost worried’ when they saw her scars...

Maybe now they know that she has always been ill-treated.

Maybe one day, they would believe her when they found out the truth... that’s if it ever comes out.

She was jolted out of her thoughts when someone knocked at her main door and without hesitation, she rushed over, draped a large dress shirt over her shoulder, and pulled it open.

She frowned.

The cat stretched behind her.

"Wh-who are y-you?" She stuttered, frowning slightly at the young girl standing in front of her with cropped dark hair and darker eyes. Her eyes trailed downwards, taking in the simple uniform the girl wore and instantly her voice dropped a notch.

"Wh-what do y-you want?"

"Alpha Kieran wants you to come down for dinner." She answered, her tone condescending.

At first, Nyx’ara was taken aback. She was surprised that a maid, supposed to serve her at the moment, had the effrontery to talk to her in this manner, but as soon as she remembered that in their eyes, she was and would always be the one who had murdered their princess, her anger disappeared.

She nodded. "Gr-grant me a min-minute, please."

"Ye-yes!" The girl answered mockingly.

If she had expected Nyx’ara to react to that folly, then she probably had no idea who she was dealing with. Her eyebrows shot into her hairline when Nyx’ara flashed her a smile, slammed the door shut in her face, and then emerged seconds later with a dazzling smile spread across her face and a long-sleeved, knee-length dress draped over her body.

Her hair which was so long, it made the maid, Ashley, jealous, was styled into a high ponytail, and Coco, the cat who abhorred human touch more than anything in the world, was cradled in her arms.

Ashley’s jaw dropped.

"Yo-you can lead me to-to the din-dining area now," Nyx’ara said in a sickly sweet voice, her eyes glinting with more than enough mischief to send tremors down Ashley’s back, "I-I do not kno-know my way around the-the house yet. More-moreover, since I g-got here, th-this is the first time I’m-I’m eating outside my room."

The girl who could not understand why the murderer was somewhat too happy, especially since gossip had spread in the servants’ quarters that she had been whipped by the Alphas the previous day until her skin cracked and her body broke, frowned.

She remembered seeing the murderer’s upper body wrapped in gauze when she first opened the door, so apparently, the news was true.

Her body was indeed so broken that it is said she might need skin grafts.

So why the fuck does she have a bright smile on her face this morning despite it all?

Why in hell is she holding the late Princess’s cat, Coco?

Most of all, why has the cat allowed her to touch it? To cradle it?

All of these speculations made Ashley’s chest burn with hatred. She absentmindedly led Nyx’ara to the dining area, pushed the large high wooden doors open, and smiled when she noticed the figure standing to her left, about to walk into the same room.

Seraphina.

To everyone, Seraphina was the perfect fit for the Alphas, not this scum. She was the one fit to rule by their sides. The one respectable enough to bear their children.

Her smile widened when she realized that Seraphina had also been invited down for breakfast, meaning that this scum, Nyx’ara, was nothing special.

Ashley took a step back when Nyx’ara walked through the double doors, cradling the cat, but just as Nyx’ara took another step forward, walking towards the Alphas, Seraphina bumped into her from behind.

The force sent Nyx’ara stumbling forward. It sent her breath rushing out of her lungs in one desperate whoosh. Her arms instinctively tightened around the cat to keep it secured, but before she could balance her weight, the same force crashed into her from behind one more time.

And this time, she could not save herself.

She let go of the cat quickly, letting it scamper away from danger before her body went down like a rock down a slope.

The force of her fall made the Alphas finally turn to them and Nyx’ara looked up just in time to see Seraphina sprawled on the floor, clutching her forehead like a drama queen and crying like a child.

She cried; "She pushed me! This vile woman pushed me! She almost hurt the cat too! She wants to kill me like she killed the princess!"

For a moment, Nyx’ara stared at the girl in absolute horror, but upon the realization that she could not continue keeping quiet while everyone continuously trampled upon her, she rolled her eyes and hissed;

"You filthy liar!"

Her words came out clean and clear, surprising even herself. She staggered to her feet, brushed her bruised hands against her dress, and snapped;

"You pushed m-me!"

Oh gosh, she was happy for no reason! The stutter was back.

"Y-you pushed me and no-now, you’re claiming t-to be innocent? I’ll gi-give you something to-to really cry about!"
