Chapter 97: Old Welland’s Hope
It was strange to say that these days, being in the Farm gave Old Welland more peace than being at home.
On his property, on his farmland, no one trespassed. He never thought farming would be so therapeutic, being a good way to relieve his stress.
Despite not doing much farm work in his youth, that didn’t mean he was completely clueless. He went hard on the poor soil, venting all his frustrations on it when he first came out to farm. But now, he was more calmer, using this time to think.
Yes.... think about the future of his Wen family in Geldhan village. Kicking a stone on the road, Old Welland grumbled to himself. "Dammit, does that bastard Gong think I’m so blind that I can’t see what he and that despicable son of his are doing?"
How long did those Gong villains take to turn the whole village to their side? He must be doing it on purpose!
"Their goal must be to drive my Wen Family out of Geldhan village." Old Welland concluded.
Sure enough, money is the route of all evil. Can you believe that a little chicken change has led to so many people dancing around The Gort and his family?
Sure, he—Old Welland—doesn’t even have so many zeros in his account. But what do these people know? Old Welland swore in his heart that his son was definitely better than Gort.
"It’s all because my Wen boy is studying in a foreign country on a special permit because of his high intellect." Old Welland muttered. "If he were here, he would have for sure made the villagers 10 times more money than they already get."
Old Welland firmly believed this in his heart, sitting on his porch while Dia Bai, his wife, quickly rushed to take off his farm boots. She also came out with a basin of water and a clean cloth for him to wash his hands, feet, and face.
She patiently waited at the side, only assisting when he called out. "Husband, you’ve worked hard. Quickly, come in and eat to your fill."
