Chapter 85: Farewell
The Director watched them from above, floating with an almost mocking calm while the sea and sky still trembled from the echo of the battle. The enemy mages, desperate, began opening portals in the void to flee, murmuring incantations softly as if that could hide their fear.
A barely perceptible smile appeared on the elder’s lips. Then, he raised his right hand and, with a simple clench of his fist, all the portals slammed shut, exploding in violet sparks that evaporated the air around.
Next, he extended his other hand and traced patterns impossible to follow with the eye.
"Dimensional Seal."
The words fell like lead. For the enemy mages, it was like hearing their death sentence. They knew well what that meant. The difference between an official mage and a Titled Mage was as vast as the distance between the ground and the sky. They weren’t facing a rival... they were facing a force of nature.
The twelve immediately grouped together, forming a defensive circle as they looked at the Director and the four mages who still floated behind them, battered and bloody.
"Are you all right?" the Director asked with a paternal tone, looking at Agis.
"Yes, Director. We’re in one piece. Here is the Kraken’s Jewel," Agis responded, extending his hand. He handed over the object with respect and relief. In doing so, he seemed to release the entire weight of the mission from his shoulders; a wide smile formed on his lips, as this mission was the requirement given to him to become the new director of Black Rock Academy.
The Director nodded, put away the jewel with a gesture of his robe, and then walked through the air toward his enemies as if descending the steps of an invisible temple.
"This is what you came for, isn’t it?" He raised the jewel with his fingers. "Come and get it. If you manage to take it from my hand... it’s all yours."
His smile was cruel, almost sadistic, as if he were enjoying every second of that theater of fear.
