Chapter 81: A Goddess’s Faded Memory
Zephier watched the witch approach the flustered warlock, who avoided gazing her way from his shoulder.
“If you’re going to ignore me, that’s fine. I guess that means you know who I am.” Emma stared at Oswald, who bit his lip.
The atmosphere felt heavy and confusing, which meant I should take my leave, as this wasn’t my problem to solve, even if I was the one who caused this rift.
Hah… Seems everything I touch I destroy.
“Emma… I…” He trailed off.
Even though he had the entire day to think, it hadn’t been enough to sort his thoughts for this confrontation. I was about to walk away from the scene that played out in front of me, but Loki grabbed onto my hand, preventing me from doing so. Instantly, my gaze locked on him as I shook my head, yet he refused to allow me to escape. His eyes weren’t on me, no, they were on his brother and Emma, and what came next from her would captivate my eyes.
“It’s funny. Before you dragged me into your bed, you were the one who said it didn’t matter what we were, but here you are backtracking. Typical. I should’ve known not to be swayed by the words of a boy.” Emma huffed.
Would that have been me if Loki rejected me? No. I would’ve destroyed the castle and taken him with me. I… wouldn’t have been able to stand on the moral road you’re on.
“What? Does the cat have your tongue?” She scoffed when silence was all that followed.
“Emma,” Zeph mumbled, brushing herself against Oswald, knowing his feelings on the matter.
“Hm… I warned you that you would hate me the moment you knew the real me, and if it’s too hard for you to look at me. Then you should fire me, Oswald.” She pointed out, gazing towards Zephier.
“I don’t want you to leave,” He sighed, gazing at the girl whose eyes glossed.
She was trying not to cry, as the last time I ever felt tears was when I was confronting Loki.
Hah… I guess these boys have their way with us.
Zoe was the only one who had an admirer who hadn’t made her cry, yet their relationship was one of friends more than anything else; there was no doubt in my mind that the sweet wolf would slowly win her heart.
Ah… Too bad that one won’t last either. We all know this was how it will end, but we’re hoping for something better. No… If I don’t hope… If I don’t wish… I can’t taint Loki.
It was almost as if time had stopped for a moment while a memory played in my mind—one where I couldn’t make out who was speaking, but someone was holding me in their hand.
Eh?! What’s… happening?
Voices I didn’t recognize erupted around me as I was dragged into that moment, where figures surrounded me were only bright, bodiless forms. There was nothing to identify them but their names.
A god wishing is repulsive. Fenrir, you should’ve known this is how an ideal ends. A god snickered.
Please don’t… I won’t try to destroy it again. Please, let him go! The one named Fenrir pleaded.
Oh, Fen, why are you pleading for your lover’s life? Are you sure you’re the god of war or of despair? Another made fun of his desperation.
It’s okay, my love. I’ll always love you. A gentle voice said, causing Fenrir to break into sobs.
Please! I love you too. Please let him go! He sounded like he was breaking into a million pieces.
His voice made my heart ache.
Touching… Another spoke, leaving an awful feeling within me.
Even though none of them could hear me, I think I was pleading with them to stop, but I was in a voiceless shell, as no one could listen to me.
Valdios! Fenrir called out to his love, followed by a loud slashing sound, before a body fell onto the floor.
No! No! I’ll… fucking kill you! I’ll destroy all of you! Fenrir shrieked at the others before wailing loudly.
Ah, if you only had shown that spark when he could still be saved. You should’ve learned that we just take, but now, you’ll be alone forever. A god who was next to the one holding me snickered. Hey, they say gods can only love once. I wonder if it’s true. Will you be my experiment, Fenrir?
The memory suddenly ended, sending me crashing back into the present as the two lovers before me made their places known.
What did I just…?
“Then… don’t ignore me. If you don’t mind, I have a job, one I came here to do, and I intend to do it right.” The witch announced before walking away.
“Emma, wait!” Oswald reached for her before clasping onto her arm as she gazed at him with tearful eyes.
“Oz… I’ll see you later.” Loki interrupted the two, who gazed at us, allowing her to yank her arm away from the warlock before dragging her gaze onto the floor.
Startled by the memory and by what was happening before me, I couldn’t help but feel like I had destroyed more than I realized. That memory had to have been from Rem’s past life, Fenrir, and I was there when Valdios, also known by his current life, Alijah, was struck down. Before I knew it, Loki tugged away from me from there, leaving Emma and Oswald both behind, as he led me back to the room where he let me go onto the bed and placed the food we had bought for later away.
In his eyes, there was still irritation from earlier, as all that was in my mind, though, was that memory. It was a blurry one, yet I was there. I felt how the god who had me in his grasp held onto my covers. The pain of being unheard rippled through my entire being, no matter how much I screamed for them to stop; none heard me. I had never known there was a type of grief to be felt from watching others hurt themselves. Even though I didn’t understand death back then, I still could feel the pain in Fenrir’s voice when he saw his lover struck down.
Eli slid into the bed with me before wrapping his body around mine, while Loki went to look for something in the cabinets. The only thing that snapped me out of that downward spiral was when my prince threw a package on the bed, dragging my gaze onto it as he took off his shirt.
Eh?!
Instantly, I recognized it from the first night I came into this room. They were the little toys he had gotten for me that night. Pushing down the emotions that were trying to swell out of me, I focused on the vampire’s intentions.
“W-what are y-you p-planning?” I stumbled to gather my thoughts.
The memory was more challenging to shake than the others I had experienced before. However, based on the way he was looking at me, I could tell he wasn’t planning on letting me go tonight. In fact, he would soon erase that memory along with every bit of my sanity that was left.
“Me? Hm... Nothing but fun sweets.” He smiled, dropping his shirt onto the floor.
His blue, purplish eyes only reflected me within them, which trapped me in them. Though the snake that held me in place was probably the culprit for why I didn’t run or fight. I had little to no more spunk left for today.
“And what did I do to deserve this fun?” I mumbled, gazing back at the unopened package of toys beside me.
You… wouldn’t dare. Right? No… This is the crazy one. You would… dare.
“Well, I didn’t appreciate Alistair’s save and you calling yourself a whore to my grandfather. So, I thought of showing you who your body belongs to.” Loki chided before climbing onto the bed with me.
A second later, my back was on the bed when he trailed his hands up my dress to remove my underwear. I didn’t mind his action toward me, but his words were another matter. Slowly, the feelings left by that blur of a memory faded, while he filled my mind.
You really are…
“Well… would you have rather Asher tasted me?” I scuffed, narrowing my eyes at him.
My vampire scowled, pressing my arms into the bed. “Fuck no… Like I would’ve allowed that. You’re mine.” He hissed, letting go of me before tugging on the dress.
“I would’ve eaten him whole.” Eli snickered.
I rolled my eyes at the two. “You don’t own me.” I huffed, trying to keep a strong front.
In response, the vampire chuckled, lowering my dress to expose my chest before he grabbed onto my neck, flashing his fangs at me.
“Keep telling yourself that, sweets,” Loki huffed, brushing his lips on my skin.
The sensation of his soft, spongy muscle caressing my nape caused me to shiver in anticipation, though that didn’t stop my mouth from running.
More… make me forget who I’m while I’m in your arms. Make me into a normal girl.
“Yep… you’re brain dead,” I sneered, urging him on.
A second later, my vampire drew away from my neck, gazing at me with an expression I hadn’t seen. He wanted to dominate me.
Me… a goddess. What a joke.
One that I welcomed wholeheartedly.
