Chapter 27: A Goddess’ Weak Heart
Closing our eyes, I could feel our lips about to brush with one another when…
"Oh, my fucking god!" Oswald suddenly burst open the door.
Startled by his brother, Loki got off me quicker than when he got on me as I sat up immediately after, covering my face with my hair. Luckily, Oz hadn’t noticed what happened thanks to his awful mood.
Though I tried to steady my heart, which was unrelentingly pounding.
Eh? What would’ve happened if he hadn’t busted in here? Oh crap… What the heck are you thinking, Vivian?!
"Have you ever fucking heard of knocking?" Loki snapped, eyes shimmering.
Oz, instead of listening to his brother, stomped into the room without a care in the world.
"Knock? When do we ever fucking knock for each other?" He huffed at Loki, who still stood next to me as I slowly recovered from this blunder.
Fortunately, my presence was the least of Oswald's worries.
"Maybe we should start knocking for one another." The vampire scoffed, clenching his hands into fists.
Oswald's familiar jumped onto the bed, followed by Eli, who was snickering, sliding onto my lap. It almost felt like he was trying to comfort me, yet my heart could barely keep up.
"Forget that! I have a fucking issue! These witches are doing their job! It’s driving me nuts!" The cranky twin growled, finally allowing me to get a grip.
If he hadn’t busted in, I would’ve been in real trouble. Eli's smooth texture also helped me feel better. Loki, however, still appeared ticked by his brother.
"If I remember right, you wanted them to mess with me. You thought they would ignore their work and come to defend their friend. Now you regret it when they differ from what you expected?" The vampire huffed at Oz, who had deep, dark circles in his eyes.
"Oi... Let’s get rid of all of them. I need my fucking sleep. Who the fuck wakes up for early lessons, anyway?" He snapped, shifting his gaze towards where the maids were glaring at him from the open door.
Hah… Get rid of us?
I startled the poor warlock by clearing my throat, as he didn’t even realize I was there. They were right about the foul-mouthed twin.
"Excuse me, but when you say all of them. Do you mean me too? If so, that’s something I can’t allow you to do. I assure you, I..." I trailed off, stopping for a minute, collecting my thoughts.
My coven sisters and I…
"We won’t be going anywhere." I smiled, prompting his eyes to twitch.
I couldn’t tell if it was due to annoyance or a tic, thanks to the lack of sleep he had. On cue, Emma walked into the room, grabbing onto his shoulder.
"Nowhere at all, my darling prince. Now come here and get dressed already. The king wants you in the library today at nine for your studies to continue." Emma sneered.
A soft cackle left me as I couldn’t help but be amused by the scene before me. They were trying to do their job, even though they appeared like goofballs most of the time. There was no doubt in my mind that they care about the coven and the father's orders.
"Oi, Loki, please! It’s two days without sleep! I’ll wither and die soon! Help me!" Oz pleaded with his brother for mercy as Emma’s grip tightened on his shoulder.
Viens were visible from where she stood, leaving me to wonder if she would have a stroke soon from the anger that radiated from her.
I guess Gerta never counted on us being demons as well.
A slight giggle left my lips, only to stop when I felt the vampire’s eyes on me again.
"Uh, no. I find my new toy pretty interesting. I don’t want her to leave just yet." He rejected his twin’s pleas as Oz's gaze filled with terror.
Melodramatic, but he probably was used to things playing out differently.
You probably expected me to quit after the night before, but too bad I’m not a normal person with average reasons to be here.
Even though the vampire I had to protect threatened to consume my heart, I had to stay no matter what happened in the end.
"No... Please! Save me!" The sleep-deprived twin begged, but Emma didn’t let him linger any longer.
Zoe smirked from where she was, holding the door open for our sister.
"Prince Oswald, please come here. We don’t want to be scolded by the head maid for being late." She smirked, enjoying making the prince's life a nightmare as our sister dragged him into his room.
“Oh, Ozzie is just a silly thing.” His familiar spoke in a feminine voice, prompting me to cock my head.
A female?
"Zephier, it seems Ozzy has finally met his match," Eli commented towards the cat with folded ears and curled tail.
"Eh, I think it’s more than that. I like them since they are trying for him to be healthy for once." Zephier said, walking into the room as the door closed behind her.
For a moment, we stared at it, thinking Oz would come back in begging to be let free, but he never did. Instead, Loki gazed at me as I tried not to fall into that pit again.
"You should get ready too." I smiled, causing him to let out a soft simper before grabbing my hand, intertwining it with his.
The warmth was too much again.
I... I...
"From today on, just like you wanted. You’re stuck with me, Vivian." He smirked playfully.
It caused me to widen my eyes as my heart fluttered.
Huh? Is this another trick?
"W-What?" I mumbled as he tightened his hand around mine, preventing any escape.
Tightening his hand around mine, he wouldn’t let me escape.
"From when you rise to when you lay your head in the bed. You’re with me, no matter where I go. Understand?" Loki chuckled, amused by my hesitance.
Even though it was what I had been pushing for, I tilted my head, not quite following along. The skepticism was too much to allow anything through.
"You want me to follow you outside of the castle?" I asked.
He nodded his head gently. "Yes. I do. However, I’ll treat you like my maid outside of this room. I don’t want anyone getting any funny ideas about you."
"Huh? I’m your maid. How else would you treat me?" I mumbled, feeling the warmth from his hand radiate into me.
It was making me feel numb to everything else.
Eh? What’s happening to me?
"Hm, I wonder." Loki hummed, tucking the hair I had used to cover my face before behind my ear.
"Thank you for trusting me." I breathed, feeling odd about the entire thing.
This will be the first day I spend with you.
"Sweets, this has nothing to do with trust. I’m still going to keep my eye on you, but I expect you to keep surprising me." Loki assured me, taking off his shirt, causing me to turn around quicker than lightning.
It almost burned something I should’ve never seen in my eyes.
I... I... Screw your teases! They’re driving me insane!
My poor heart was beating in ways it had never had before, once again.
"You should get dressed in the bathroom!" I squealed, gripping my dress.
A chuckle came from him, “Nah, that would take far too long. I thought you wanted me to be there on time.”
This was the start of a battle; I couldn’t afford to lose. Sadly, the vampire appeared to be my most significant weak point. This was a war that I didn’t know how to win.
No, it’s unwinnable. I’m not stupid enough to not realize what’s going on, but… I…
My heart was already being consumed by the twin that would die. It didn’t take long for him to get ready before telling me to follow him out. We were heading towards a new, unknown place where I would discover new aspects of myself.
Life was truly a beautiful thing, for every moment that passed with him was a blessing in disguise.
