Fractures of Eternity

Chapter 146: A Goddess’s Wrath

When a blue light began to cast behind me, I couldn’t help but feel an eerie calm wash over me.

“I’ll always be with you, Vivian.” My beloved’s words echoed within my core, ensuring he was also fighting back against my spell, knowing full well what would happen if I continued.

“You aren’t a monster.” His voice filled my heart, prompting me to cling to something within the older brother as I didn’t back down.

My power isn’t only for destroying things. I should be able to create too. I can’t be afraid of it! Conquer it! Make it your own! It was always mine!

The shimmer of gold grew brighter as Alistair, I suspected, felt his soul seared alive with every moment I delayed in acting.

“Annihilate,” I declared, triggering the gold to turn purple before it shifted into pitch black as it poured out of the hole, creating even more fractures around us.

A second later, I pulled out something that felt like a sphere out of the prince, as the spell broke for him, allowing him to fall onto his knees, out of breath. Instead of focusing on him, I inspected the unknown object in my hands, as it was eerily like something I had once read in the cove’s library, where my mother kept the essential documents about the gods and the past. The orb in my hands shimmered a yellowish glow before it dimmed to grey seconds after being pulled out from the host.

A god seed? Hah… Pathetic… Just when was this implanted in you?

The gods would use these to implant thoughts into a mortal’s mind, driving them insane to the point they were only a shade of who they used to be. This was supposed to be banned after two creators were destroyed, but it seemed some remained in the celestial plane.

You… were nothing but a pawn to whoever planted this in you. We’re more alike than ever before.

“Vivian,” Alistair barely voiced, remembering everything that had happened, especially how Rem had sliced his head off.

Tears ran down his cheek as I shifted my gaze to meet those tired red eyes, which finally had life back in them. It was as if the cloud that had been cast on the gentle soul was lifted, yet there was a more pressing matter on his mind than what had happened.

“What are you?” His voice trembled, yet in his eyes I could see I was on a pedestal.

The first person to ever care enough about him to sacrifice for him rather than damn him to oblivion.

Hah… Don’t look at me like that. I’m… not your hero. At least with this… Rem won’t… Well, shouldn’t…

A heartbeat later, the time spell was broken as I smiled at the prince, who gazed at me as something to be revered.

“Everyone’s worst nightmare,” I answered, as the next moment a blade found its way towards my neck, as I knew she wouldn’t dare slice it off.

“You!” Rem snarled, blade quivering where she held it.

A soft sigh left my lips, gripping onto the seed within my hand before slightly turning towards her. “What do you want?”

Loki grabbed onto her arm. “Ma, please don’t! She saved me!”

Hearing his voice eased me in ways I couldn’t comprehend, as my legs wanted to give out with the simple thought that they were alive, but it wasn’t over. For a second, she gazed at Loki, whose tears were visible in her purple eyes, which meant she was still reeling from the pain of having seen him dead before locking back onto me.

“What have you done to my son?! My family?!” Rem questioned, still holding the blade in place.

The seed within my bloody palm began to throb as soft shimmers of light started to come from it.

Ah… This was what I was feeling. It won’t be long now.

“Rem Silver Fang, you were someone who haunted my nightmares while I was little, but in reality, you’re just a plain stupid hybrid, aren’t you?” I huffed, facing her head-on.

“What?!” She growled, pressing the blade against my skin as a drop of blood dripped from it.

“Not only did I save your adoptive child, and a kid you ignored because of your bias, I also saved your two daughters not too long ago, yet you’re an ungrateful bitch that can’t say thank you to save yourself. But what should I expect from you?! The woman who labeled me without even knowing me!” I declared, staring at her head on.

Behind Rem was Alijah, and by our other side was a cat familiar coming towards us, which wasn’t Zephier since Oswald was by Thea and the rest when I reset the rewind. Luna’s wailing was all I could hear as most of the spectators were being evacuated after what happened, while Leo was still holding her close to his chest.

Caden stayed with the kids up there while Zoe had gone missing.

Ah… Thank you for taking this chance to end another horror.

There was a simple plan I had made her promise to do if things played out this way—one she was going to do no matter what.

Well then, it begins.

“Vivi—” I interrupted my vampire by raising my hand.

“You’ve always hunted me down, but I’ve had enough of your crap. I’m what I want to be, not what others deem me to be.” My words caused a pulse of energy to erupt out of me, repelling everyone away, but Eli, who had wrapped around my arm, and Alistair

Alijah caught Rem, while Loki caught himself.

“Now, stay out of my way if you want to live.” I huffed, turning towards where our new intruder was about to make an appearance.

The energy emanating from that spot was extraordinary, prompting the crack to grow as the seed continued to pulse the same waves.

What are the chances that the god that appears is new? Low… Whoever it is…

There was no way to know what was coming out of this portal, yet I knew it was the beginning of the end. Taking off my bracelet, I could only hope my father and Lilith came in time to save everyone there.

“Protect Alistair at all costs. If he dies, then all of this was for nothing!” I commanded Eli before throwing him towards the stunned prince. “Do you understand, Elias?”

The little snake winced before slightly nodding as I turned towards the distortion that was widening before me. A heartbeat later, a figure emerged from the disturbance, male, with blue hair and red eyes. His skin was golden and slightly translucent, separating him from us. It also helped that he was somewhat taller than any of us there.

A second later, a figure emerged from the portal. A male with blue hair and red eyes. His skin was golden and translucent, too.

“Who dares summon me into this mortal world?” The titan in front of us questioned, prompting a cold sensation to seize my senses.

Even though he was attempting to appear tough, what I had done affected him as his eye seemed to spaz out on him while being dragged there, probably wasn’t on his to-do list. Luckily, he was not someone I recognized from any of the books I read while with the coven, yet every fiber in my being was telling me to run. However, if I dared to do that, he would kill everything within sight.

“Oh, fuck, you’re real?” Alistair’s voice trembled, leaning into Eli for support, as there was no doubt in my mind that this man had tortured the poor boy.

Sadly, his words caused the god-like being to gaze at him. I had to find my voice or else.

“Oh… You…” He mumbled, as I had no time to allow fear to grip me.

The king, Lilith, and Fenris were still in the stadium as everyone else who wasn’t part of this family had been running out. Caden had been trying to get the younger kids out, but they weren’t leaving without the rest of their family.

“Oi… Don’t look at him.” I huffed, dragging the giant’s eyes back onto me.

“What?” He mumbled, narrowing his eyes at me.

“Why is a god like you involving himself with mortal qualms?” I questioned, attempting to get a grip on my shaking body.

This isn’t like the gods in the soul cairn. No… This one is alive and well. Though… He seems clueless about who I am. Maybe it’s the necklace, but for how long will this façade last?

“Hm… interesting. How did a mere mortal take my seed out?” he asked, tilting his head as he noticed the orb within my hands.

Steadying my voice, “Wouldn’t you like to know. How about you answer my question first?”

The being narrowed his eyes, gazing at me like he had found a fun toy to play with. However, with each second his presence was there, the more our reality was shattered.

“Oh, how cute? You have the guts to talk to me like that. Don’t you know who I am?” he spoke like his identity was a given.

I couldn’t help but curl my lips up into a smirk. “Oh… Do you think we simple mortals know everything about the celestials? Enlighten us by introducing yourself.”

Please, Papa, hurry, I don’t know how much longer I—

A soft chuckle left the being’s lips. “I’m Metnir, fifth son of Mulriac.”

At that moment, he made everything clear to me, as Mulriac was the god who created the vampires and gifted them with blood magic.

Oh… Everything now makes sense. This god must have felt Loki and considered eliminating him to gain his father’s favor.

The fact that I didn’t recognize his name meant he was a relatively new divine, which accounted for why he went behind Yama and interfered with the living world.

Hah… Unforgivable…

“So, you came to create discord to impress your father? What a pathetic being you are.” I scoffed, as I finally let loose, knowing who I was facing wasn’t an opponent that I needed to fear.

This god aligned with order, which meant that chaos was the only way to destroy him. This was what made Yama and me so dangerous: we were both beings of duality, so we needed to be fought on both fronts. My left hand allowed me to control chaos more easily, while my right hand was for order; yet, with these revelations, the need for action was prevalent.

“I don’t think I like your tone, mortal.” He huffed, reaching for me as I began to radiate pure destructive magic.

“It seems I might not need Papa after all. Though with you gone, I might have more time than sitting here waiting for him to find me!” I smirked, infusing the seed with my energy.

In an instant, it embedded into his forehead, prompting him to slant back and reach towards his face.

“Argh! What are you?!” He screeched, feeling overwhelmed by the chaos that was emanating from the sphere.

“I never knew gods could feel pain, but from your expression, I guess you do.” I cut loose as blue liquid began to spill from where the seed made contact with him, allowing me to see how their blood wasn’t red but blue.

It pains me to admit we’re more alike than I wish we were. Then again, you did create mortals. In that sense, it would be strange if we didn’t resemble you.

Luckily, chaos was one element I was at home with, and I didn’t need to fear it. However, I needed to hold back. If I went too much, I could destroy everything around me, which would’ve been a mistake.

“Well, that’s nothing you need to concern yourself with. Now, be a good little god and die for me, won’t you?” I smirked, feeling sharper throbs come from within me as my hand melted into the chaos emanating from it.

No matter what I do, Yama’s coming for me. There’s no way he didn’t feel me take Elias’s and Alistair’s souls away from him. My time is running out!

In an instant, the deity was overwhelmed and turned into nothing, prompting all the magic around me to die down.

Hah… he ran… Not that it matters as long as he learned his lesson.

A soft sigh left my lips, turning away from it, as he wasn’t the only thing that worried me.

Now… if only every god would—

Before that thought finished crossing my mind, I spotted Alijah and Rem rushing towards me.

Eh?

For a moment, I blanked out as there was no way they would hurt me while I was linked to their son, as their blinding sleep was too much for my eyes to follow before they struck something behind me. In those moments, I spotted Loki appear before me as he yanked me into his arms, and in those same moments, Eli dragged Alistair towards us before coiling protectively around us. Within my moment of hubris, I had made a fatal mistake, as Metnir hadn’t backed away but hid, looking for a moment to strike me down. With little hesitation, the hybrid sliced through the titan’s hand, which was reaching for me with her celestial blade made with Midnight’s chaotic flames, while Alijah took his other arm, causing the Metnir to screech in pain.

“Fenrir?! You dare get in my way?!” Metnir screamed, recognizing Rem’s most authentic self.

His eyes flashed with fury like a raging inferno, while my beloved vampire held me tighter, wings spread wide. The paint from Eli melted away when the sky above us drenched us in water, as the magical power that surrounded us had caused a downpour to bless us.

“Nothing would please me more than seeing that girl die, but if you kill her, you take my sons!” Rem answered, slicing off his leg with little mercy, causing him to fall.

“Our sons!” Alijah growled, launching the divine into the air.

Chains erupted from everywhere, catching Metnir in midair.

“How about you do as the lady says and die for us, worm.” Oswald snarled from behind us, as he wasted little time in joining us.

Ah… your soul magic is the key to this!

The same way Lilith, Vera, and Oswald could summon souls from there into our world, they could also make them go in. Unfortunate for Metnir since he was a god.

A gift… Midnight surely left them, too. You seemed to have thought of everything, wavered goddess of souls.
