Empire of Blood

Chapter 56 – What Changed

Jack let the system remain at the edge of his awareness for a while before opening it, not because he was unsure of what it would show, but because he wanted to separate the feeling of the change from the explanation behind it.

The difference was already there.

It wasn’t just strength, and it wasn’t something as simple as having more stamina or better control over his abilities; instead, it felt like everything worked together more cleanly than before, as if the system had removed inefficiencies he had previously compensated for without ever noticing them.

Even breathing, despite the injury, felt more stable underneath the pain, like something deeper had shifted into place.

After a moment, he opened the interface.

[Rewards Granted]

  • 500 Gold

  • Title Acquired: Defender of Sanguina

→ +5 to all Attributes

Jack accepted the title without hesitation, and the effect settled into him immediately, the increase spreading evenly across every attribute rather than stacking awkwardly, reinforcing what was already there in a way that felt natural.

It wasn’t overwhelming.

But it was consistent in everything.

He shifted focus and opened his full status.

Name: Jack Reed

Race: Human (E-Grade)

Level: 25

Class: Blood Reaver (E-Grade)

Titles:

  • Defender of Sanguina → +5 All Attributes

  • Dungeoneer II → +2 All Attributes

  • Dungeon Pioneer II → +6 All Attributes

Strength: 42

Agility: 41

Endurance: 48

Intelligence: 31

Wisdom: 32

Willpower: 41

Perception: 41

Vitality: 49

Luck: 10 (Locked)

Jack studied the numbers carefully, not rushing past them this time, because the scale of the increase was large enough that it needed to be understood properly.

The titles alone accounted for thirteen points across every attribute, which meant they were no longer a minor bonus, but a defining part of his overall strength. Without them, his progression would still be solid, but with them, it shifted into something more efficient, more complete.

The difference wasn’t just in raw numbers.

It was in how everything connected.

He moved to the class section.

Attributes per Level:

  • Strength: +4

  • Agility: +4

  • Endurance: +3

  • Vitality: +4

  • Willpower: +3

  • Perception: +3

  • Intelligence: +2

  • Wisdom: +2

  • Luck: +0

Passive: Hemorrhage Amplification

Bleed effects now stacked faster and scaled more effectively, especially against targets with higher durability, which explained why the Tyrant had broken down once enough damage had accumulated.

Jack continued.

Enhanced physical performance with improved efficiency and reduced wasted strain.

Converted blood into stamina with lower cost and better sustain.

A more stable defensive construct that held more reliably under pressure.

Stronger and more responsive control over targets.

Extended blade with wide arcs and stacking bleed application.

Fast, piercing projectile allowing ranged control and pressure.

Jack let the interface remain open for a moment longer, considering the interaction between everything rather than focusing on individual parts.

Before, his abilities had functioned alongside each other.

Now they reinforced each other.

Control created openings.

Openings enabled damage.

Damage created bleed.

Bleed amplified pressure.

It was structured.

He closed the interface slowly.

Around him, Sanguina was already shifting back into motion, though the aftermath of the battle was still visible everywhere. The injured were being treated in a more controlled flow, the urgency fading into something more sustainable, while the Sisters regrouped near the outer line, no longer reacting, but preparing.

The builders had already begun clearing the battlefield, dragging bodies away and resetting the terrain where they could.

No one stood still.

Hanna stepped into view again, stopping a short distance away as she looked at him.

“You’re still alive,” she said.

Jack nodded.

“Seems that way.”

Her gaze lingered for a moment longer, taking in the way he held himself despite the damage.

“You got stronger,” she said, not asking.

Jack didn’t deny it.

“Yeah.”

She gave a short nod.

“Good,” she said, before turning and heading back toward the others.

Jack leaned back slightly, letting the Cathedral’s effect continue to work as his breathing stabilized further, the pain still present but no longer dominating every movement.

There was more to do, and more to understand, but for the moment it was enough to recognize how much had changed and how far that change would carry him moving forward.
