Livelihood Dungeon! (English Version)

Chapter Eighteen: Egg Supply, New Set of Silkies and the Livestock Storage

Livelihood Dungeon current overall points after more or less than a month:

Dungeon Points: 1,100

Livelihood Points: 278,920

Master Points: 1,350

...

The past thirty or so days had been meaningful for Peter.

There had been no change in his Dungeon Points.

As for his Livelihood Points, the gap between before he left and after returning to the peddler's village was like heaven and earth. From a simple three-digit number, it had grown into a six-digit amount.

Peter was confident enough to say that he was now fairly wealthy in terms of Livelihood Points.

The term "legendary" truly lived up to its reputation. Out of the hundreds of thousands of points he had accumulated, nearly ten thousand came from the simple act of extracting Regeneration Potions from Iyashi, the Regeneration Slime.

The rest came from various other sources.

He used a large portion of those nearly 10,000 points to buy seeds—corn seeds, to be exact.

He purchased 200 packs of corn seeds from the shop.

Each pack cost 20 Livelihood Points.

200 × 20 = 4,000 LP.

He also bought the lowest-grade fertilizer, costing 10 LP each, to match the number of seeds he had.

200 × 10 = 2,000 LP.

It took him an entire day to plant the 200 fertilized corn seeds. With daily watering, they bore fruit.

The basic-grade fertilizer also shortened the usual growth period of corn. What normally took 15 days was reduced to just 10 days before harvest.

It should be noted that each corn yield was worth 10 LP.

Each pack containing 12 seeds produced 48 corns.

Meaning:

48 × 10 = 480 LP per pack.

For 200 packs:

200 × 480 = 96,000 LP.

Not bad.

In fact, it was already excellent.

His 6,000 LP investment turned into 96,000 LP—a net profit of 90,000 LP.

He repeated this cycle twice more.

Subtract 6,000 LP, gain 96,000 LP after 10 days. And he repeated it again.

By continuously planting massive batches of corn over the course of a month, he accumulated 28,800 pieces in total.

After that, he planted a fourth batch.

Even Peter himself was overwhelmed by the sheer scale of his harvest.

Since he still couldn't figure out how to use such an excessive amount of corn, he decided to store them in the Crop Storage.

At first, he was worried whether the storage could handle such a massive quantity. However, to his delight, it only used a single container.

That was when he realized how magical the storage was—it was like a bottomless pit.

When he first used it, he hadn't noticed anything unusual. But once a layer was nearly full, he realized its true capability.

No matter how much he put inside, it never filled up.

Peter's competitive nature was triggered. He kept adding more and more.

When he finally got tired, he noticed the label on the storage:

Corns

Amount

20,001 corns

His mouth opened in amazement.

At present, the status was:

Corns

Amount

28,800 corns

During that time, he also experimented with middle- and advanced-grade fertilizers.

He discovered that they reduced growth time by the same amount as the basic fertilizer. Although the crops were slightly tastier, he was still not satisfied.

They cost more but produced the same yield.

So he decided to reject their use for now.

Quantity was his priority, especially since he was still in the early stages of developing his business and dungeon.

Peter was extremely satisfied with his results.

He knew his efforts had paid off.

He had obtained nearly 30,000 corns and around 300,000 LP through his blood, sweat, and effort.

If his results had not been this substantial, he would likely have been discouraged from continuing the Goddess of Goodwill's mission.

That mission covered the entire Skylark Realm, not just the Terragon Kingdom.

Even at the level of a single kingdom, the difficulty was already extremely high.

If a month of exhausting effort had only yielded minimal returns, he would have given up immediately.

It would not have been worth it.

All his effort would have been wasted.

It would have been a brutally punishing game.

But with 28,800 corns and 288,000 Livelihood Points as proof, it was clear that both the Livelihood Dungeon and the goddess's mission were a game he could complete.

...

Peter made the pair of Silkies his pets after ensuring that they had settled in comfortably under his care.

A few days later, the Silkies began laying eggs—much to his surprise. He had not expected that even the male Silkie would lay eggs.

That was when he fully realized once again that he truly was in a strange world. It seemed his adjustment to this place was still lacking if even something this small could still surprise him.

He gave names to the two Silkies that had just become part of his household.

"Considering both their lineage and appearance, I'd say you're quite cute since you belong to the Bantam type.

Bantams are a type of poultry breed known for their small size. They are usually kept as pets or for display by breeders.

Some Bantams look cool, but overall, Silkies take that charm to another level.

Their fluffy feathers are unique. Although they are very soft and fluffy, they don't look dirty—in fact, they are quite pleasant to look at."

He then turned his gaze to the male Silkie.

"This one is pitch black. Not only its feathers, but also its feet, beak, and even its eyes are black. It looks like the embodiment of darkness.

You are Shadow."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"Shadow doesn't only refer to the shadow of a person or object.

It can also mean darkness itself—obscurity."

After naming the male Silkie, his gaze shifted to the female chicken.

"Pure white... and extremely fluffy.

I don't even need to think about your name.

Something already came to my mind the moment I laid eyes on you."

He smiled with satisfaction.

"From now on, your name is Cotton."

Peter was very pleased with the names he had given them, believing they suited the pair of Silkies perfectly.

Meanwhile, the two Silkies were both extremely confused by the situation.

Due to their new owner's strange behavior, they had suddenly found themselves trying to understand him.

They were also surprised when he gave them names.

But that was not the end of their shock. In fact, they did not realize that this was only the beginning of the surprises waiting for them in the future.

Peter then laid out the terms of the contract to them—and it was not an ordinary one.

The Silkies couldn't help but feel doubtful the moment they heard it.

"Kru?! Kru?! Krukru!!"

"Are you mocking us, human? Just because we are chickens doesn't mean our brains are small, unlike what you humans think."

The pitch-black Silkie, Shadow, spoke somewhat angrily.

"Kru!! Kru!! Kru!! Kru!!"

"Stop trying to sweet-talk us. We know your kind. We've encountered those with yellowish skin and narrow eyes. Anything that breathes and is not your kind, you eat, right?"

The white Silkie, Cotton, made her sharp accusation.

"Hey?! What?!" Peter shouted, almost speechless at the accusation. He couldn't help but feel irritated and raise his voice, disgusted by being compared to such people.

"Don't compare me to them. I'm not as barbaric as you say," he defended himself.

Peter froze. His eyes widened as he realized something. He could understand the Silkies' words far more clearly than he could Ichiro or Iyashi.

The pair of Silkies then fell silent. There was no benefit in arguing with this human.

What mattered most to them now was living comfortably in their new environment.

They had enough food, and it was provided on time.

Most importantly, they had a proper place to sleep.

If they argued with the human in front of them, they might lose their current comfortable life. Even the food they had eaten earlier could end up being their last meal.

When they were still young, they had heard a terrifying story from their elders.

Healthy members of their kind would suddenly disappear from their cages and be taken to a horrifying facility.

According to witnesses, they were slaughtered one after another, then plucked and skinned.

Even more terrifying was the fact that humans were highly skilled at butchering their species.

The most horrifying part was that surviving witnesses were returned to the cages by the same humans who killed their companions.

While returning them, the humans would laugh and say:

"You're lucky. You still get to live a few more days—you're still too skinny."

They didn't fully understand the meaning of those words, but they could feel the overwhelming dread behind them.

So the two new pets of Peter chose silence, accepting their seemingly false sense of freedom.

As chickens, they had already surrendered to their fate, powerless against humans far stronger than them.

They chose to listen to promises they did not fully trust.

"Eat well. Just give me healthy eggs, and we won't have any problems.

If you do as I say, I'll make sure you are always full. I won't let you get sick. Your shelter and water will always be clean.

You will also be allowed to go out regularly for exercise.

And most importantly—please just stay with me. You won't regret it. None of you will be slaughtered," Peter said to the seemingly uninterested Silkies.

The dungeon master quickly recovered from his shock. He simply assumed it was another effect of the Livelihood Dungeon.

Although he was slightly irritated by their lack of response, he chose to remain patient. He understood that they had clearly gone through something complicated.

Instead of repeating promises they might see as empty, he decided to prove everything through actions.

"Soon enough, their perspective will change," he said to himself.

A few days later, the pair laid their first eggs.

And from that moment on, egg production in the Livelihood Dungeon became a regular occurrence.

...

It had likely been more than half a month since Thomas left the village.

It was a clear and refreshing morning.

While Peter was talking with the siblings Gwen and Alfred in the village, a message suddenly interrupted his peaceful morning.

"It's time to get to work," he said after reading the message he received from the Livelihood Dungeon.

Upon arriving at the Livelihood Dungeon, Peter immediately headed straight into the chicken coop.

Even at the entrance, he was greeted by loud chirping sounds.

He spotted the only chicken inside—the black male Silkie, Shadow.

He nodded at it, choosing not to pay it much attention for now.

He quickly made his way to the nest at the far end of the coop. There, he found the white female Silkie, Cotton, beside two broken eggs.

Next to them were two newly hatched chicks.

Cotton quietly and calmly watched over her offspring.

Peter smiled at the scene.

After witnessing it, he decided to leave, out of respect for the mother and her moment.

He left them alone for now.

He only left food in the feeding trough and clean water in the drinkers before exiting.

He spent the time tending to his crops and cleaning parts of the dungeon.

After a while, he returned to check on the newly hatched chicks and the remaining eggs.

He carefully observed the two chicks. Their feathers were still damp.

"But honestly, Silkie feathers really are thicker compared to other chicken breeds even right after hatching," Peter said with a nod.

His observation was correct. In other breeds, chicks were almost featherless, appearing nearly bare.

But Silkies were different.

Even just after hatching, their bodies were already covered in feathers—except for a few thin areas.

He slowly reached his hand toward the two chicks, testing whether Cotton would become aggressive.

Seeing no sign of attack, he shifted his full attention to the chicks.

He gently tapped one of them with the tip of his index finger.

The chick immediately jumped back in surprise.

"Pipip! Pipip! Pipip!" the silver-colored chick cried out, clearly annoyed by the sudden touch.

Peter grinned.

"Adorable."

"Huh?!"

Peter nearly jumped at what happened next.

Cotton suddenly struck the silver chick with her wing.

The small chick was flung to the side of the nest.

Peter froze, his hand still extended.

The chick stood back up crying—angry and complaining.

But it was immediately hit again by Cotton, forcing it to finally fall silent.

It was still alive... but it clearly chose silence over defending its dignity.

"Kru! Kru! Kru! Kru!"

"You, kid—you're already being rebellious. That attitude won't work on me. Don't you know? That human is our master. He gives us food and shelter. He is the reason you are alive. Learn to be grateful. If you do that again, I will personally teach you a lesson you won't forget."

Even Peter couldn't help but gape at Cotton's strict discipline.

"Scary..." he muttered.

Meanwhile, the other chick seemed to have been enlightened by what it had witnessed.

It suddenly moved.

"Pipip! Pipip! Pipip!"

Peter didn't know whether to laugh or feel sorry.

The small chick had wrapped itself around his index finger, chirping happily.

There was a strange mix of joy and desperation in it—as if begging in its own way.

Cotton froze.

Even she didn't know what to do.

Her attempt to impress her master had completely fallen apart because of her second child's strange behavior.

Despite their fear of humans, a small hope slowly began to grow in the hearts of Shadow and Cotton.

Even though they were chickens that could be slaughtered at any time, there was now a part of them that wished to escape that fate.

It was better to hope than to live each day in despair.

That was their silent agreement.

If they cooperated with Peter, perhaps their fate could really change.

Cotton's shoulders slumped.

Her first attempt... had failed.

Unaware of the Silkie complicated thoughts, Peter continued with his task.

He carefully removed the chick from his finger and gently patted its head.

"Pipip," it responded happily.

After that, he began examining each egg in the nest.

He used his appraisal skill.

...

"Two misplaced eggs," Peter muttered softly.

He was referring to the two non-fertile eggs that had ended up in Cotton's nest by mistake.

Those belonged to the male Silkie, Shadow.

He shifted his gaze to another nest not far from the mother and chicks.

There, he saw nearly a dozen eggs neatly laid out.

He appraised them.

According to the appraisal, all of them were labeled as not fertile. This meant that the two eggs had simply ended up in Cotton's nest by coincidence.

Most likely, this happened while the female Silkie was away from her nest, and Shadow, sensing that he was about to lay eggs, happened to do so in Cotton's nest instead.

Carefully, Peter moved the two misplaced eggs back to Shadow's nest.

However, he noticed that there were already too many eggs there, so he decided to reduce their number to prevent them from breaking due to overcrowding.

For the time being, he stored them inside his master's lodge until he could properly use the Livestock Storage.

...

Peter let another ten days pass to allow the chicks to grow a little before he began contracting them.

A few more eggs also hatched during those ten consecutive days.

Oh right—he had also already claimed the rewards during that time.

The Livestock Storage—this was the free establishment Peter chose to build this time.

He placed it beside the Crop Storage, on the right side where there was still available space. On the left side of the Crop Storage stood the Gristmill.

He also stored Shadow's unfertilized eggs there. One of the good features of this storage was the presence of trays specifically designed for eggs.

He also conducted several experiments.

He tried to determine which storage could hold the Regeneration Potion.

It could not be placed in the Crop Storage.

That made sense.

It was an extract from a living being, not a plant.

The Crop Storage was strictly for crops and other plant-based materials.

Next, he tested it in his new Livestock Storage.

This time, the experiment succeeded.

If the Livestock Storage had not accepted it, there would likely be no other storage in the dungeon where it could be kept.

From his experiment with the Regeneration Potion, Peter discovered two storage methods.

First, it could be placed on a proper rack, as long as it was already contained in smaller containers such as bottles or vials.

Second, it could also be stored in a large drum—similar to how he stored corn in one section of his Crop Storage.
