Chapter 164 - 126: Blending In, Battlefield! Crossbow Army
’They’re all captives. If they’re killed, so be it. The three Hua Family brothers were likely captured by accident. In an emergency, they’ll probably be cut down with the rest before anyone can identify them.’
’Looks like I need to act fast,’ Lu Changfeng thought.
Lu Changfeng soon discovered that after a corps was deployed, it would typically rest and resupply in the camp for several hours.
’Once the Thirteenth Corps deploys, I’ll send my Clone to investigate the dungeon!’
Lu Changfeng didn’t have to wait long.
An hour later, the Thirteenth Crossbow Corps, having just replenished its forces and added two new Deputy Captains, was ready to set out!
Tian Feng began to roar commands, and the soldiers of the Crossbow Corps quickly fell into formation.
The corps arranged themselves into ten square blocks, with a Deputy Captain at the head of each.
"Move out!"
Tian Feng was also at the front, though he was flanked by several protectors at the Bone Refining Fifth Layer.
Just then, a figure flew toward them. Lu Changfeng caught a glimpse of the person gliding through the air—a sign of a Rebirth Realm Spirit Body—and couldn’t help but shrink back slightly.
Fortunately, the person was headed for Tian Feng, still a good distance away from Lu Changfeng. His slight movement went unnoticed.
"Supervisor Yuann Ming!" Tian Feng greeted the arrival, revealing the man’s identity.
The Jiangnan North Army had several supervisors, all of whom were powerful experts at the Rebirth Realm.
This Supervisor, Yuann Ming, hailed from the Ape Sect—one of the Top Ten Sects of Jiangnan. He was an immensely powerful Rebirth Realm expert.
"Carry on. Continue advancing. This time, you’ll be supporting my operation," Yuann Ming said slowly.
As soon as Yuann Ming finished speaking, Lu Changfeng noticed that the expressions of the several Deputy Captains around him had soured considerably.
Lu Changfeng shot a questioning glance at the Tendon Transformation Realm Deputy Captain next to him. This man seemed to have a tacit understanding with Lu Changfeng; knowing he was new, he sent a voice transmission in reply.
"Lu Jia, you’re new, so you don’t understand. When Supervisor Yuann joins us, it’s basically to deal with Daliang’s Rebirth Realm experts. Once a battle involving Rebirth Realm experts breaks out, the casualties for our Crossbow Corps will increase dramatically!"
"Thanks for the heads-up," Lu Changfeng replied.
"Don’t mention it. If we get caught in a nasty fight later, let’s watch each other’s backs, Brother Lu Jia. Lend me a hand if I’m in trouble," this Deputy Captain, an interesting fellow, replied.
"Of course!" Lu Changfeng replied.
After Yuann Ming temporarily joined the Thirteenth Corps, he conferred quietly with Tian Feng, and the troops set out again.
Soon, the Thirteenth Corps had marched out of Cyan Willow Town.
As they advanced deeper onto the battlefield, the ground became increasingly littered with the severed limbs of Martial Artists and the scars left behind by their techniques.
Over the past month, the Jiangnan North Army had fought fiercely here for many days against the Baili Army, one of Daliang’s five major armies.
The Crossbow Corps maintained a tight square formation, with supply teams interspersed throughout. These teams, composed of Martial Artists at the First and Second Layers of the Blood Forging Realm, were responsible for distributing crossbow arrows and other munitions.
Outriders fanned out within a one-kilometer radius of the formation, scouting for any potential enemies.
The entire Thirteenth Corps moved like a great beast on the prowl.
Armies of Martial Artists were unlike those of ordinary men. Beyond just large-scale field battles, even their typical skirmishes required a massive battlefield. Anything less would be insufficient to contain the occasional, devastating clashes between Rebirth Realm Martial Artists.
"Supervisor Yuann, we have a situation up ahead! It seems our Twentieth Crossbow Corps is engaged with the Daliang Army," Tian Feng, at the head of the formation, announced after receiving a report from an outrider.
"Yes. Continue advancing." Yuann Ming had clearly anticipated this. ’He must have planned this battle with the other supervisors in advance,’ Lu Changfeng thought. ’The target isn’t ordinary soldiers, but the opposing experts at the Rebirth Realm.’
