The offer brightened when Jace did not answer.

Jace checked the wording twice before he accepted the lock. The people stayed outside the claim. The door, the restraint network, and the release mechanism did not. It was the cleanest use of authority he had found because the thing being controlled could not resent him for controlling it.

Lucas planted the broken chamber frame against the floor. "Take it."
Sophia kept one hand against the woman behind the cracked glass. "Do not."

The remote Collectors sharpened inside the gold wall. Their mirrored masks gained depth as the extraction seal approached physical arrival. Noah stepped between Lucas and Sophia.
"The menu wants us fighting about which cage has the better lock," he said. "Stop helping it."
Lucas's voice went flat. "You have a Free Claim. Easy speech from the one already protected."
Noah looked at the line connecting him to Jace. "Every breath still hurts him."
Jace felt the next cycle answer.

Sophia looked at the Collector. "Was that instability?"
The mask reflected her without answering. Jace closed the vault claim and cycled Heir's Claim through the remaining structures.

Jace understood him. Lucas was not hungry for a new owner. He was tired of watching delay become death. The System had made urgency its strongest attorney.
"How long would you let me own you?" Jace asked.
Lucas's face hardened.
"Long enough to get out."
"And if the menu says release makes you unstable?"
"Then I fight you."
"Good. I would rather skip to that part."
Jace pressed the attuned Sunchain Vault Key against the lock field.

House Sunchain was not dead. The claim was not abandoned. But the local authority had failed when Caleb died, Theodore fell, and the vault accepted the Anchor Room. Three conditions overlapped without matching cleanly.

Lucas looked at the transfer count. Then he lowered the broken frame.
