Chapter 249
Liu Yun’s blunt words added a touch of gunpowder to the already delicate atmosphere.
Everyone knew that Liu Yun held a position of significant weight and influence in the hospital.
They also knew she was fiercely protective of her own people.
Now that Chenyang was in trouble, it was perfectly understandable for her—as the one who brought him to the hospital and as his direct superior—to protect him fiercely and speak in his defense.
At the same time, out of respect for Liu Yun’s status, the other medical staff didn’t dare say anything more in the face of her forceful, angry rebuttal, even if they were already convinced Chenyang was a bad person.
But the person she was now angrily confronting wasn’t just another member of the medical staff, but the high-and-mighty vice dean!
This vice dean’s name was Kang Yiming!
He was in charge of the City Hospital’s emergency department, surgery department, and some personnel transfers.
He had been practicing medicine for nearly thirty years, working his way up from a regular doctor to a department director, and had held the position of vice dean for over a decade.
It was no exaggeration to say he was considered one of the most senior, veteran figures at the City Hospital.
More importantly, nearly a third of the current core staff—department directors, attending physicians, and the like—were his former subordinates and protégés!
Even the dean himself would typically show a man like that a great deal of respect.
But right now, not only had Liu Yun shown him no respect, she had even publicly confronted him with such passive-aggressive sarcasm!
In everyone’s eyes, this was tantamount to leaping up and slapping Vice Dean Kang right in the face!
As the esteemed vice dean, there was no way he would just swallow this insult. He couldn’t possibly let a mere department director cause him to lose face in public!
Therefore, what was likely to happen next was that not only would Chenyang be suspended, but Liu Yun would be punished as well.
Instantly, those standing closer to Liu Yun quietly shuffled back a few steps, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.
Meanwhile, the others standing farther away silently cast glances at Liu Yun that were a mixture of schadenfreude, pity, and a sense of ’you’re on your own now’.
However, after a few seconds passed, Vice Dean Kang Yiming didn’t erupt in a thunderous rage as everyone expected!
Admittedly, Liu Yun’s words had caused Kang Yiming to lose a great deal of face.
But he wasn’t angry.
He, too, had climbed the ranks from a department director and had experienced situations where his own people were falsely accused.
Back then, he had also chosen to believe in his people and fought with all his might on their behalf!
He also understood how Liu Yun must be feeling right now.
Not long ago, a doctor under Liu Yun had lost his job due to a false accusation.
Moreover, that doctor wasn’t just falsely accused; the hospital administration had used him as a scapegoat!
When Liu Yun had stormed the administration offices back then, several leaders had assured her that such an incident would absolutely not happen a second time.
But now, not even a month later, a similar scene was playing out all over again!
Regardless of whether Chenyang had actually done those despicable things, the fact that he was suspended and essentially being held under house arrest in the hospital before the matter was even investigated—forget Liu Yun, no one in her position could possibly remain calm and indifferent!
Looking at Liu Yun’s furious expression, Kang Yiming sighed. "Director Liu, neither you nor I wanted things to escalate to this point.
"To be honest, I also believe in Chenyang and am willing to support him, but now that things have come to this, it’s not just you and he who are angry and under pressure. The hospital is under immense pressure as well.
"Before we get to the bottom of this, we have to quell the public outcry as quickly as possible. Otherwise, Chenyang’s situation will only get worse, and our hospital’s operations will be significantly affected."
Liu Yun snorted, her tone unyielding. "So you’re just going to sacrifice Chenyang for the sake of the hospital’s interests?"
"This isn’t a sacrifice. It’s just damage control—minimizing the losses while reducing the impact as much as possible."
Seeing he couldn’t convince Liu Yun, Kang Yiming turned his gaze to Chenyang. "Doctor Chen, the hospital has absolutely no intention of sacrificing you or making you a scapegoat.
"I admit that suspending you and keeping you at the hospital is improper, but please believe me, the hospital has already assigned people to investigate this matter.
"I can give you my word: once the investigation is complete, we will give you a satisfactory resolution! If you were framed, the hospital will, at all costs, severely punish those who slandered and set you up!"
"Dean Kang, you don’t have to say any more," Chenyang said with a calm smile. "I trust the hospital, and I trust that the truth will clear my name."
He then turned to Liu Yun and said comfortingly, "Sister Liu, let’s just do as Dean Kang says for now. I’ve done nothing wrong; I have nothing to fear!!"
