37 — Music to the Ears
Valeria
Valeria's morning was disrupted by the wretched sound of her alarm.
She groaned and stretched her limbs in bed. The light of day peeked through the blinds, and she squinted in response. In her half-asleep state, she reached for her phone to check the time.
6:30 am. 'Ugh... why did I set it so early?'
She rubbed her eyes, remembering that she had a shift today. Another day of protecting the streets from... what? Underaged drunks? Teens without licenses driving like maniacs? Women crossdressing as men and causing mayhem?
Valeria snorted to herself. That's what this world had become, after all.
With a sigh, she sat up and swung her legs over the edge of the bed.
She sat there for a minute, staring at the wall, trying to motivate herself to stand up and start the day. It was tough. The bed was so warm and comfy, and the thought of leaving it was painful. However, thinking about a certain young man she had been seeing quite frequently lately was enough to kick her lazy ass into gear.
Damien.
She wondered what he was doing right now.
Probably sleeping like a baby, his pretty face peaceful and calm, the morning light highlighting his sharp cheekbones and those long eyelashes. He was probably rolling in a bed too big for him, his black hair a mess on the pillows, his lips slightly parted as he snorted softly.
Valeria imagined a world where she'd be leaving that particular bed, kissing him gently, telling him that she was off to work but she'd see him later. He'd mumble something in his sleep, his silver eyes opening slowly, a smile gracing his features.
He'd probably say something naughty like 'don't you want your good morning cunningulus?' and wiggle his tongue between his index and middle finger suggestively.
She felt herself blush at the thought, her pussy clenching involuntarily. 'Shit, I need to get laid. Or just laid off.'
One look at the clock told her that she had at least enough time to wring out another orgasm before her shower.
"......"
Valeria bit her lower lip, weighing the options. Her hands slowly drifted down, slipping under her panties and finding her already swollen clit and sodden folds.
The self-delight took but a handful of minutes until, gasping, and barely suppressing a loud moan, Valeria released the contents of her lust and imagined the feeling of that silver-eyed bastard's lips sealing on her vulva.
"Haaah..."
Crisp, morning air invaded her lungs and the tension in her body disappeared.
Still sitting on the side of the bed, with one hand resting on the sheets, Valeria looked at the clock on the wall. It was almost 6:45 am, so she really had to get to it now.
She rose to her feet and stumbled her way to the bathroom. The tiles were freezing to the touch, and a hot, long shower washed away some of that sluggishness from her limbs.
It did a little something for the lingering desires, but a far better option would have been a session of morning sex with a tall, young and handsome fellow.
Valeria wished it would have been that way, but wishing only brought more misery.
Her phone started ringing when she was nearly done. She had turned the ringtone on 'vibrate' but the damn thing was just too loud for its own good.
She muttered a curse and quickly made a move to grab the towel. "What now?" She said, drying herself as best she could before picking up. "I'm not late, I'm not going to be late, alright?"
It was one of her colleagues.
"Hi, Val... uh, sorry but are you in position yet?"
The voice came through. It was muffled a bit by static.
Valeria pressed the phone closer to her ear, leaning down. "No, not yet." She continued drying her body, hopping around the cold bathroom floor as her soaked hair dripped everywhere.
"Good. We're having an emergency meeting at 7 am. Come in ASAP, the chief has something to discuss with us."
Valeria blinked.
"The boss does?"
"Yep. I'll brief you when you get here. Alright, I'll let you go. See you in a few."
Before Valeria had time to protest, the line was cut. "Wait, wait!"
She frowned.

At the station, there were about ten officers gathered in the break room, alongside the Chief who was standing in the center.
With her hair tied in a tight bun and a no non-sense look in her eyes, Chief was looking at a tablet in her hands. She was a woman in her late fifties, but she didn't look a day over forty-five. Her hair was still a lustrous shade of brown, with just a few streaks of grey in the temple area.
"Alright everyone, listen up." The Chief said, her voice steady and commanding, and everyone fell into a semblance of silence. "I'm sure you've all heard about it by now, but we have a situation that requires immediate attention."
Valeria stood next to her friend and colleague, Sasha, who had called her earlier, and leaned in to whisper. "What's going on? Did someone finally kill someone?"
Sasha shook her head, her blonde curls bouncing. "A man released a song."
"A... a song?"
A man releasing a song was certainly quite surprising, but not to the point where everyone had to gather like this.
The whole room felt like it was on the cusp of a collective groan.
The Chief heard and shot them a look. "Yes, a song." She confirmed, with a touch of annoyance. "Now, you might be wondering why we're concerned about a song, right? Well, this is no ordinary song."
The tablet was turned around for everyone to see. On the screen was the SoundWave profile of a new artist—Silver—with a single song under his name.
"His music isn't the problem. Well, it is, in a way. However, the lyrics in that single song are so explicit, that we've received dozens of ridiculous complaints in the last 24 hours."
"......"
What?
Valeria couldn't believe what she was hearing. A man's song receiving dozens of complaints?
"What kind of complaints?" Sasha dared to ask.
"Let's see... 'This is an insult to all men', 'I fear he's being coerced into singing this', 'It's a disgrace to the sanctity of the male gender', and my personal favorite, 'It's turning me into a horny mess and I can't focus at work'."
There were a few snorts and chuckles.
The Chief, however, wasn't amused.
Valeria, still in a state of disbelief. "Excuse me but what are those lyrics about exactly?"
"Something about him wanting to please a woman." The Chief scrolled through the tablet. "Not as graphic as you'd think, but quite evocative and certainly too... honest."
"This is absurd." Valeria muttered.
And, for some reason, she couldn't help but think of Damien; he was the only one in her mind who had that kind of open mindset, that carefree way of expressing himself that wasn't like anything she'd seen in a man.
"It is." The Chief agreed, looking at her with a tired expression. "The song is already causing quite a stir, and the media is having a field day."
"I mean, is it really that bad?" Sasha frowned. "Men are allowed to express themselves, right?"
"You'd think so." The Chief said, sighing. "But this is a bit... unconventional. Have you ever heard a man sing about oral sex before?"
That question silenced the room.
"I don't know about you, but I've never even heard a man talk about it." The Chief continued. "I've never heard a man so much as imply it. Yes, we could argue that there are men out there who do, but they're not exactly mainstream, are they? And now, here's this unknown artist, singing about prostrating himself in front of a woman, and it's causing a moral panic."
"But why?" Valeria couldn't wrap her head around it. "Isn't that a good thing? He's being, you know, romantic."
The Chief scoffed. "Romantic? Val, you're one of the few who think that. Most people see it as a degradation of male dignity. They think he's being forced to sing these lyrics, that he's being exploited for his looks and voice. They think this is some sort of sick joke, or a publicity stunt, or an attack on the integrity of men."
"Is it really what people think...?"
"No." The Chief denied, surprising everyone. "Actually, it's an annoying minority that's being the loudest. The majority of the feedback we've received from the general populace has been... well, let's just say it's not negative."
That made everyone exchange confused looks.
"Then what's the problem?" Sasha raised her hand. "I mean, why are we having this meeting if most people like it?"
"Do you remember what were last year suicide rates?"
"......"
That had everyone shutting up. The Chief gave them a meaningful look before continuing. "I don't need to remind you that female suicide rates have been at an all-time high. While we can't point fingers and blame a single factor, we can't deny that the decline in male population has taken a toll on the mental health of many women. The male's lack of active participation in the sexual and romantic aspect of a relationship has been a huge contributor to this problem."
Valeria swallowed, feeling a lump in her throat. It was a difficult subject to talk about, but it was a reality that everyone had to face.
"Right." Sasha mumbled. "So, this song...?"
"This song, as much as some of us might like it, is like a match being thrown into a pool of gasoline. It's giving hope to a lot of women who are already on the edge. It's making them believe that maybe, just maybe, men are not as averse to the idea of pleasing women as they thought. It's making them expect things that might not be... realistic."
Valeria had a sinking feeling she knew where this was heading.
"And when those expectations aren't met?" The Chief asked rhetorically, her gaze sweeping over the group."When those women find out that most men are still not comfortable with the idea of being on their knees? How do you think those women will feel?"
"Won't they just go back to their previous depression?" A short officer in the back shrugged. "I don't see the big deal. I think most people will learn that this singer was an exception and things will just go back to normal."
"Oh, things will indeed go back to normal." The Chief nodded. "Except, things will be much worse than before, because now women have this voice echoing in their ears, repeating things that most men don't like to hear."
Valeria furrowed her eyebrows. "What about the singer... this Silver."
"He's in trouble." The Chief affirmed darkly. "He just doesn't know the kind of Pandora Box he's opened."
Sasha glanced at her worriedly. "Maybe it won't be that bad..." She tried to sound upbeat. "I mean, come on, we're talking about a single song."
"A single song that has already amassed over a hundred thousand streams in a day." The Chief reminded them, having to sit down for this shit. "And it's only going to get more popular. You can bet on it. It's highly controversial—and the controversy will only fuel the fire. And when the fire gets too big... you can only imagine what happens to the one who started it."
Valeria couldn't help but be concerned for the guy.
"What do we do?" She asked.
"We keep an eye on him." The Chief declared. "In case some fan gets a little too... enthusiastic."
That was code for 'some woman might try to abduct him and do God knows what with him.'
"Do we even know who he is?" Sasha inquired, looking at the Chief's tablet.
"Yes." The Chief looked like she was preparing for a migraine. "He's a registered male, so we have all his information. The name's Damien Winters and he's a resident here."
She turned the tablet around, showing a picture of him.
"Yeah... now I get why it could be a problem..." Sasha murmured, whistling quietly.
"You have to be joking..." Another officer shook her head, unable to look away. "Is he even real?"
"Unfortunately, he is." The Chief answered dryly, looking at the picture of Damien with a faraway look in her eyes—probably dreaming of her lost youth. Everyone knew the Chief wasn't married and wasn't likely to ever be at her age. "And he's not making it easy for us."
"......"
Valeria stood there dumbly with her mouth agape, to the point where everyone turned to stare at her.
"Val?"
Sasha tugged at Valeria's sleeve. The latter didn't react, eyes completely vacant.
What the fuck?!
'It's actually him?!'
