Arista found Fen exactly where she always seemed to be these days, buried in her workbench at the Alchemy Guild, surrounded by a small forest of labeled vials, the same restless, obsessive energy Arista recognized instantly as a kindred spirit.

She kept testing, methodical despite the excitement, cataloguing every property she could measure. The compound itself, she confirmed after several more passes, didn't convert to steam or vapor at any point, it remained crystalline throughout, intact, simply facilitating the water's own transformation rather than becoming part of the output itself. Elegant, if slightly strange to fully wrap her head around, the same way she imagined the mana-conductive pipeline compound had once seemed strange to Arista, before it became simply understood.

"Replace the crystal every two hundred liters, and the submarine never needs to surface for fuel at all."
She glanced at the clock, realized she'd once again worked straight through until nearly dawn, and laughed quietly to herself one final time.
