Chapter 59: Penthouse
With Nana cradled securely on one arm, Liora opened the gigantic refrigerator. Interior LEDs flared like a second sunrise.
"Can we fill it with ice cream and pudding cups?" Nana asked, eyes wide.
"If Kai agrees, we’ll fill a whole shelf," Liora promised, giving a gentle kiss on Nana’s hair.
Beside the fridge, a marble island stretched long enough for a banquet. Darius ran a calloused hand over its surface. "This stone feels cooler than ice, even in this sunshine," he marveled.
Nana pointed at the induction cooktop. Digital numbers flickered on. "In Culinary Princess, the chef had one of these! She made rainbow steak!"
"Rainbow steak?" Darius blinked. "Is that... edible?"
"It sparkles!" Nana declared, the blanket sliding a bit as she gestured wildly. Liora adjusted her grip, smiling.
They eased down a hallway toward a private library. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves formed a maze with an automated ladder gliding along silent rails.
Liora gently settled Nana onto a padded swivel chair at the rolling desk so she could spin and see everything.
Liora selected a volume embossed with silver glyphs. "Is it okay to touch?" she asked, almost reverent.
"Kai said this is our home now," Darius replied, handing the book to Nana so she could trace the inlaid designs. "We should act like it."
Nana’s sharp eyes spotted a section of shelving slightly ajar.
