Chapter 380 379: Murong Family
Murong Qian nodded obediently, saw Lin Feng to the door, then returned inside.
"Haaaah..."
She let out a long sigh, composed herself, and dialed a number.
...
"Hello? Xiaoqian?"
The phone had barely begun to ring when a gentle, magnetic male voice came through.
"Second Uncle, I need to ask a favor of you," Murong Qian said, getting straight to the point.
Hearing this, the man on the other end was taken aback for a moment. "What's the matter?"
"It's like this..."
Murong Qian quickly explained her agreement with Lin Feng, adding an earnest reminder.
"Remember, you're the only one I trust. Please, don't tell anyone else about this."
"Alright, I understand."
"And one more thing... are you and Lin Feng... really just friends?"
The man on the other end of the line hesitated for a long while before finally asking.
At his words, something seemed to come to Murong Qian's mind. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she stammered in a low voice, "Mhm."
"Oh, you silly girl."
The man sighed. "The two of you aren't a good match!"
"Besides, from what I've heard, the man is already married. You're the young lady of our Murong Family; it wouldn't be proper for you to act like this."
"Second Uncle, you've misunderstood. We really are just normal friends," Murong Qian hurriedly protested.
"Enough. Your Second Uncle has been around the block; I know a lot more about these things than you do. Let's just leave it at that."
His tone was firm and decisive, leaving Murong Qian no room to object.
...
「Meanwhile, in a mansion somewhere in the Capital City.」
An imposing, elderly figure sat at a desk, carefully reading a slip of paper.
"Lin Feng?"
The old man narrowed his eyes, a cryptic smile playing on his lips as he murmured to himself.
'How interesting. So it's him?'
He put the slip of paper away, but a cold glint flashed deep in his eyes.
...
That evening, Murong Qian had Lin Feng join her in a black Mercedes sedan.
"Young Master Lin, this car is specially provided by the Murong Family for our distinguished guests."
Murong Qian, sitting in the driver's seat, spoke with a sweet smile on her beautiful face.
Lin Feng sat in the passenger seat with his eyes closed, resting. He paid it no mind; after all, he was just visiting the Murong Family as a guest, not walking into a lion's den.
「Meanwhile, in a luxurious mansion in the Capital City.」
An old man in a white robe slowly walked out of a room, tilting his head back to gaze at the radiant full moon.
"Hah. I didn't think that little brat Murong Qian would actually dare to bring someone home. Looks like we're in for a good show."
The old man muttered to himself, a vicious look flashing in his eyes.
"Someone!"
the old man called out.
As his voice faded, a figure vaulted through the air, landing before him.
"Greetings, Great Elder!"
The man prostrated himself on the ground, bowing respectfully to the old man, his eyes filled with adoration.
His name was Zhou Tianyu, and he was one of Great Elder Murong's best dogs.
The old man nodded and began to give his orders. "Go and investigate this man Murong Qian brought back. Find out exactly who he is and if he has any connections to anyone else in our Murong Family."
"As you command."
Zhou Tianyu acknowledged the order and departed.
"Hmph. That little girl from the Murong Family... you're still far too young."
The Great Elder snorted, a hint of murderous intent surfacing in his eyes.
...
「In the Jiangnan Suburbs, there was a vast estate.」
The entire place was brightly lit.
Lin Feng followed Murong Qian deep into the estate, where they arrived before an enormous mansion.
Several luxury cars were parked at the entrance, and numerous tall, burly men were patrolling the grounds.
Lin Feng frowned. 'The Murong Clan certainly likes to make a scene.'
He hadn't expected the Murong Clan to attach so much importance to this. It seemed they had prepared thoroughly for this occasion.
"My uncle told me to bring you into the mansion."
Murong Qian offered a faint smile and led the way into the mansion.
The mansion's interior was stunningly luxurious, a dazzling display of gold and jade that was almost decadent. The sight would have shocked any ordinary person.
However, Lin Feng was long accustomed to such displays, so he remained perfectly calm.
A servant led the pair into the main hall.
"Ah, you must be our young friend Lin Feng. Please, have a seat."
A middle-aged man was seated in the main hall.
This was none other than the current Patriarch of the Murong Clan—Murong Yi Yun.
Lin Feng calmly took a seat, his demeanor perfectly composed, neither servile nor overbearing. He showed no sign of surprise.
"Your name is Lin Feng, is that right, young friend?"
Seated in the host's chair, Murong Yi Yun's face was somewhat pale, but it couldn't conceal his commanding, martial presence.
He gestured toward a sofa to the side.
Lin Feng didn't stand on ceremony and sat right down.
Murong Yi Yun smiled faintly and continued, "Young friend, would you be willing to join our Murong Clan and become one of our Guest Elders?"
"Oh?"
Hearing this, Lin Feng raised an eyebrow, appearing somewhat surprised.
He had come today to treat Murong Yi Yun's illness; he certainly hadn't expected to be invited to become a Guest Elder.
It wasn't just him; even Murong Qian, who was standing behind Murong Yi Yun, had a look of surprise on her pretty face. She clearly hadn't expected her own father to make such an offer.
"Hahaha, it seems my offer has taken you by surprise, young friend?"
"Please don't mind my being so blunt."
"My daughter has told me of your abilities. I know this is rather abrupt, but I must ask: are you confident you can cure my illness?"
Murong Yi Yun's question made Lin Feng fall silent.
After a long moment, he shook his head. "I'm sorry, but I must refuse."
The smile on Murong Yi Yun's face slowly froze.
He stared intently at Lin Feng and suddenly asked, "Why?"
Lin Feng pondered for a moment before speaking slowly. "What you call an illness... it's a Gu poison, isn't it?"
"That's right."
"This Gu poison is unique. It's not something one is born with. Rather, it's the result of consuming countless refined Gu Insects, to the point that it has altered your very physical constitution."
"If I were to act rashly and try to remove the Gu poison, I'm afraid it would backfire and end up harming you instead."
Murong Yi Yun frowned, inwardly alarmed. 'I can't believe it. He's described my condition almost perfectly without even taking my pulse.'
He let none of this show on his face, however. Instead, he smiled faintly and continued to ask, "In that case, do you have a way to treat my illness?"
Lin Feng rubbed his nose and mulled it over for a moment before saying, "I can temporarily suppress the Gu poison to keep it from spreading."
"However, to do that, I'll need some medicinal herbs."
Hearing this, Murong Yi Yun nodded. He then took out a thick file and handed it to Lin Feng.
"This is a list of the rare herbs in our Murong Family's collection. Please take a look, young friend. If what you need isn't on this list, you only have to ask."
