The Capital's Dragon Doctor

Chapter 183: Retreat

The brown bear's fan-like paw only grazed the corner of Lin Feng's clothes, but the powerful inertia still sent him staggering back several steps.

"ROAR!"

The brown bear let out another furious roar and charged straight for Lin Feng. Its massive body left deep craters in the ground, and the force of its charge made Lin Feng's expression darken.

But Lin Feng squared his stance, preparing to meet the brown bear's attack.

The bear closed the distance in an instant, its huge paw swiping at him once more. Lin Feng dodged to the side, evading the massive paw, but the aftershock of the blow sent his robes fluttering wildly.

Lin Feng's body tensed. He lunged at the bear again. His attack was incredibly swift, but he still failed to hit a vital spot.

"SMACK!"

Lin Feng slapped the bear right on its forehead, but the beast didn't even budge.

This made Lin Feng's expression turn grave. This bear's defenses were no joke. Though he hadn't used much force in that slap, the blow had landed squarely. Yet, such an attack didn't even seem to faze it, let alone cause any injury.

Lin Feng's brow furrowed. With a thought, a Yellow-rank, low-grade dagger appeared in his hand. A fight like this was going to be quite difficult for him.

"ROAR..."

The brown bear threw its head back and roared, then crouched down. Its massive claws, as tough as steel, lashed viciously at Lin Feng.

Seeing this move, Lin Feng's eyes narrowed. He shot to the side, and the bear's steel-like claws swiped through empty air, carving a long trench in the ground.

Lin Feng used the momentum to leap up, grab the brown bear by its tail, and with a powerful tug, actually yanked the massive beast into the air.

Kicking off the ground, Lin Feng shot forward, and the brown bear was slammed straight into the earth.

"THUD!"

A dull thud echoed within a hundred-meter radius. Dust and debris flew everywhere as the immense impact caused the surrounding ground to crack and shatter.

After steadying himself, Lin Feng stared into the cloud of dust with sharp eyes. The force of that last move had made the webbing between his thumb and forefinger go numb.

But a cold smile touched Lin Feng's lips. He knew an attack like that probably wouldn't cause much damage to the brown bear.

After all, it might be enough for an ordinary beast, but against a brown bear with such a thick, tough hide, it seemed a bit weak. Even so, he had to finish this bear today, or it would mean endless trouble later.

Lin Feng's eyes turned cold. His body blurred into an afterimage as he charged forward again. He knew he couldn't miss this time, because the bear was already enraged and was now charging at him frantically.

Lin Feng tapped the top of the bear's head, using the contact to vault onto its back. Now standing on the beast's back, he knew the real fight was about to begin.

The brown bear roared, its pointed ears twitching as it tried to locate its attacker. Its tail then swept toward Lin Feng.

There was no dodging this one. But a slight smile played on Lin Feng's lips. He pushed off with his legs, launching himself upward, and delivered a roundhouse kick to the bear's neck in mid-air.

Lin Feng's speed was astonishing. The bear's paw couldn't even get a swipe in before Lin Feng's knee swept horizontally, slamming directly into the bear's soft belly.

"THWACK!"

With a dull thud, the brown bear was sent flying by Lin Feng's two consecutive hits. Its body traced a graceful arc before skidding to a halt right in front of him.

But this was the moment Lin Feng had been waiting for. He rushed forward, and with a swift slash of his knife, he sliced directly at the bear's soft neck.

The sharp dagger easily sliced through the brown bear's throat. Blood instantly spurted out. The bear then crashed to the ground with a rumble. Its massive body twitched for a moment, but it was clear that its life had already fled.

The brown bear's death allowed Lin Feng to relax a little. The fight had been thrilling, but all in all, it had been relatively easy.

'So this is what these things have become... It's just as well. At least now I have a clearer understanding of my own strength.'

Looking at the giant brown bear carcass in front of him, Lin Feng raised an eyebrow.

'Since I killed it, I can't let it go to waste.'

He didn't know what had caused this brown bear to turn into... this, but its pelt and claws were valuable items. The huge bear paws were especially precious materials.

No sooner said than done. He immediately began using his dagger to skin the bear and remove its claws.

Ever since he was young, back in his sect, he had often gone into the mountains to gather herbs and collect materials. A task like this was simple for him.

Before long, he had carved off the giant bear paws and all the meat on them. He had also removed the massive pelt.

Of course, he didn't carry these with him. He still had to go deeper into Wo Hu Mountain to find the Spiritual Medicine, and these items would take up too much space.

He casually dug a large pit in the ground, wrapped the claws in the pelt, and buried them. Then, he continued on his way. The forest was dense, but it couldn't hinder Lin Feng's sharp senses, so his pace grew faster and faster.

"SWOOSH!"

A snake tail, a good thirty or forty feet long, suddenly whipped toward Lin Feng. His eyes narrowed. He raised his right hand, veins bulging on his arm, and thrust his shortsword forward. The snake tail, as if made of tofu, was split in two.

"HISSS!"

The giant snake cried out in pain and quickly fled. Lin Feng was already used to such scenes. He didn't give chase, but continued deeper into the forest.

He had already been delayed here long enough.

The appearance of the so-called Red Flame Fruit had attracted numerous factions and Ancient Martial Artists. If he wasted any more time here, he probably wouldn't even get the scraps.

Right now, Lin Feng just wanted to shorten the time it took to find the Spiritual Medicine, but it was proving to be difficult.

Although he was constantly accelerating, running like this consumed a great deal of his stamina.

After all, he was only at the Mid Stage of Innate. While he could fight above his level, it was still very difficult to increase his speed on the rugged mountain path.

"THUMP!"

Just as Lin Feng was about to take a short rest, a familiar scent suddenly drifted into his nostrils.

'The smell of blood?'
