Chapter 174: Beauty
Lin Feng muttered to himself before his figure flashed, leaping up toward the treetop. To him, this massive ancient tree was like solid ground; with just a couple of casual sways, he reached the very top.
"This is a pretty good spot."
Lin Feng sat in the treetop, gazing up at the moon and stars. Only then did he realize how beautiful Wolong Mountain was at night.
Stretching lazily, Lin Feng took a small jade bottle from his clothes. It contained some Healing Medicine he had refined back in Xijing City. While it wasn't anything special, it was more than enough to treat his current wounds.
He applied the ointment from the bottle to the cuts on his hands and body. The bleeding immediately stopped, and although the wounds hadn't yet scabbed over, it was clear they were healing significantly.
"This medicine works pretty well."
Lin Feng smiled as he looked at his hands. Just then, a serious thought occurred to him: his current cultivation realm.
In less than two months, he had gone from a beggar with his seven apertures sealed to a cultivator at the Peak of Mid-Stage Innate.
This was already a world-shocking pace of progress, but for Lin Feng, it was still too slow.
After all, his cultivation path was different from that of an ordinary person. His previous strength had already surpassed the Innate realm; he was only at this level again because the Supreme Profound Medical Scripture had sealed his seven apertures.
'This pace won't do. Under normal circumstances, it would be fine, but on this trip to Wo Hu Mountain, I might run into Ancient Martial Artists who are beyond the Innate realm. That would be a huge problem.'
Lin Feng muttered to himself. If he really did encounter a master beyond the Innate realm, he would be in for a world of hurt. Experts at that level had already transcended the mundane. With his current strength, it would be nearly impossible to fight them.
'I wonder how my current strength stacks up against other Martial Artists?'
Lin Feng murmured, leaning against the massive tree. He wasn't in any hurry to move.
It was nighttime, and he wasn't familiar with Wo Hu Mountain. Furthermore, many predators hunted after dark. Lin Feng knew he had to wait for daylight before beginning his search.
AWOOOO...
Just as Lin Feng closed his eyes to rest, a series of wolf howls suddenly rang out. The cries were sharp and piercing, even causing a dull ache in Lin Feng's head.
His eyes snapped open, narrowing as he stared in the direction of the howls. The sound was close—no more than seventy yards away.
SWISH!
Lin Feng's figure shot forward like an arrow. In the blink of an eye, he plunged into the patch of forest where the howls originated. Moments later, he found a cave and concealed himself in the darkness nearby.
GROWL!
Another howl echoed, and a pack of wolves burst out of the cave. Lin Feng focused his gaze, counting over thirty of them—gray-furred wolves with black stripes.
'A wolf pack here?'
Lin Feng furrowed his brow at the sight.
It was extremely rare to find a wolf pack this deep in the mainland's old forests.
You were far more likely to encounter them on the northern plains.
"It seems the Red Flame Fruit really is on Wo Hu Mountain," Lin Feng murmured. "The wildlife around here has changed too much."
Although he didn't know how to tame wolves, he knew that every pack had a leader. He just hadn't seen it yet.
And at the head of these thirty-odd gray-furred, black-striped wolves was the pack's alpha.
AWOO! AWOO!
The alpha of the gray-furred, black-striped wolves howled at the sky, and the entire pack of thirty-plus wolves halted outside the cave. One by one, their bloodthirsty eyes locked onto Lin Feng, as if ready to tear him apart.
The leader then padded lightly to the mouth of the cave, turned its head, and shot Lin Feng a look of open provocation.
'How did it find me?'
Lin Feng found it incredible that the wolf leader had spotted him so quickly in the dead of night.
AWOO!
Once it confirmed Lin Feng's position, the wolf leader grew excited. Its large, round eyes, shot with crimson, stared at Lin Feng with ravenous greed.
GRRROWL!
With a furious roar, the rest of the thirty-plus wolves exploded into motion, charging at Lin Feng to tear him apart. A cold glint flashed from their fangs, their sharp claws radiating a deadly aura.
SWISH!
Lin Feng's figure darted to the side. He had no reason to clash with this pack of beasts.
He had only come to investigate the situation, not to pick a fight. Getting entangled with these creatures now would be a major problem.
WHOOSH!
Seeing Lin Feng flee, the rest of the pack gave chase in a rage. However, their massive bodies slowed them down, and Lin Feng managed to shake them off.
In a secluded part of the forest, Lin Feng found a relatively safe spot and sat down to regulate his breathing. It was about an hour before dawn, and with no sign of the wolves renewing their attack, he could relax slightly.
What he needed to do now was restore his body to its peak condition.
A sleepless night passed.
When the morning sun finally rose, Lin Feng slowly opened his eyes. He looked slightly fatigued; to avoid any ambushes, he had remained vigilant and not slept a wink all night.
Despite this, he had recovered his vitality. The wolves had not returned, which lifted some of the pressure he felt.
Lin Feng stood up, straightened his clothes, and prepared to venture deeper into Wo Hu Mountain. Now that he was here, he couldn't let this once-in-a-thousand-years opportunity go to waste.
Lin Feng was determined to succeed on this expedition to Wo Hu Mountain. He needed to increase his cultivation as quickly as possible to handle whatever challenges lay ahead.
Lin Feng traveled at a rapid pace. After about half a day, he finally arrived before a majestic, towering mountain. From a distance, he could see the range stretching unbroken for dozens of miles.
A desolate aura emanated from the summit, washing over him and making his chest tighten. The mountain looked as if it were carved from a single, solid piece of rock—a truly awe-inspiring sight.
"I've reached the core of Wo Hu Mountain. According to Li Yuan, the Red Flame Fruit should be here."
"From this point on, I need to watch out for the Heart-devouring Powder and any hidden enemies."
Lin Feng murmured under his breath. Wo Hu Mountain was the most dangerous place he had ever been, but he wouldn't retreat. The Red Flame Fruit could be growing right here on this mountain.
Stepping forward, Lin Feng circulated his Inner Strength throughout his body and proceeded with extreme caution.
The vicious beasts here were numerous; Lin Feng no longer dared to let his guard down for even a moment.
