Chapter 492: She Is a Spy
The soldier replied, "This is an order. She attempted to harm a patient!"
The doctor immediately shouted, "That's impossible! She's worked under me for several years and has never had a single complaint. How could she possibly do something like this!"
"You must have misunderstood. Let her go, now!"
"That's right, let her go! This nurse is so kind. How could she do something like that!" a nearby patient, who had been watching the commotion, pushed his way in.
"This nurse has been giving me my shots for three days. She's the best nurse you could ask for—so responsible! How can you treat her like this!"
Other patients also began to speak up.
This nurse had worked at the hospital for several years and often gave injections to the elderly regulars, so everyone knew her.
The nurse's eyes were brimming with tears. "Thank you, thank you, everyone!"
The soldier's brows furrowed. He didn't know what to do.
With the hospital staff and patients blocking their way, they couldn't leave even if they wanted to.
Besides, these were all ordinary people; they couldn't just hurt them.
One of the soldiers assessed the situation and, without a word, turned and went upstairs to find Xiao Ye.
When Xiao Ye heard the news, he raised an eyebrow slightly. "Let's go. I'll go down with you."
When the two of them got downstairs, they could hear the nurse crying miserably.
"That patient said he saw that the color of the medicine was wrong, but I checked it, and it was fine. I suspect there might be something wrong with his eyes, or maybe it was just a shadow."
"But he wouldn't listen at all! He insisted I was trying to harm him and had his men arrest me. If I go with them, I might die!"
"I'm still so young! My son is only three, and I've only been married for four years. I don't want to die!"
"Don't worry, you're not going to die. No matter who he is, he can't just bully us common folk like this!" a patient spoke up.
The others chimed in in agreement.
"That's right, dear, you don't have to be afraid. If they dare try anything, we'll be the first to stop them!"
"You're just a nurse. Why would you try to harm him? I think he's the one who's paranoid!"
"Where are the doctors from this hospital? Get them out here to stand up for you! How can they just stand by and watch you get bullied and do nothing!"
The doctors arrived as well.
"To all patients and your families, please rest assured, we will handle this properly. For now, please clear the area."
"We're not leaving! Who knows what will happen after we go? You'll probably just take her away again!"
"Right, we're not leaving! Tell that brute to come out! What right does he have to arrest someone without any evidence? Looks to me like he's the one who's about to kill someone!"
As their voices fell,
Xiao Ye descended the stairs. "Move."
His voice was so cold that the crowd instinctively parted to make a path for him.
Seeing it was him, the nurse's eyes filled with terror. "It's him! He's the one who framed me, saying I tried to harm him!"
"I've been wronged! Sir, I really didn't do it!"
"I really didn't mean to harm you. I only wanted to give you your shot. I must have misunderstood."
Xiao Ye watched her coldly. "We'll soon find out whether it was a misunderstanding or not."
"I've already had someone take the medicine you brought to be tested."
The nurse's heart sank. 'Of course I added something to it,' she thought. 'If they test it, there's no way to hide it.'
'But that's fine. Right now, everyone is on my side.'
She lay on the ground pitifully. "I'm just an ordinary person. If someone really wants to frame me, there's nothing I can do."
"The medicine has been sitting in the hospital room. Anyone could have touched it. How can you prove it was me?"
"Why is my life so miserable? My poor child is only three years old, and he's about to lose his mother!"
One patient couldn't watch anymore. "Hey, that's enough out of you! What do you think you're doing? Do you have to push her to her death?"
Xiao Ye looked at him. "And where exactly did you see me forcing her?"
"I saw it with both my eyes! She's just a simple nurse. Why would she want to harm you? I think you're the one who's paranoid!"
Xiao Ye scoffed. "So, you just take her word for it, believe she's innocent, and assume I'm the one trying to harm someone. Is that right?"
"Isn't that it? You're a grown man, laying hands on a woman. Shameless!"
"She has a family and a child. Why would she try to harm you?"
"Because she's a spy."
At these words, the crowd fell silent for a moment, and then even more patients began to condemn Xiao Ye.
"She's worked at this hospital for years and has always lived here! How could she be a spy!"
"I know this nurse! She was born in this very hospital! She can't be a spy!"
Even the doctor spoke up for her. "She was my student. She's never once been abroad in her entire life. Your accusation is completely baseless."
Xiao Ye was injured, so he waved his hand, and a soldier brought over a chair for him to sit on.
"You don't have to go abroad to be a spy. You can be a spy even without leaving the country."
"There are many ways to contact people overseas. Through the internet, email, all sorts of things."
"As for you saying it's impossible…" Xiao Ye grabbed the nurse's hand. "This bracelet—it's a luxury brand. This alone costs over thirty thousand. No, that's wrong. It would be three hundred thousand here!"
The crowd was shocked. This tiny bracelet cost three hundred thousand in Country N currency?
Are you kidding me?
They don't make that much in an entire year!
A young nurse spoke up. "I know about that. She said her husband bought it for her as a wedding anniversary gift."
"Yes, it was an anniversary gift!" the nurse immediately interjected. She had just been crying, and with tears still on her face, she looked truly pitiful.
"My husband bought it for me!"
Xiao Ye laughed. That excuse was full of holes. "This bracelet is a limited edition. It's not sold in Country N, only in a few major nations. How did you buy it?"
"You've never been abroad, yet you managed to buy something from overseas. Don't tell me you had someone buy it for you or that you bought it online. I had it checked. This bracelet requires a purchase allocation."
The so-called "purchase allocation" means that before you can buy a certain item, you first have to buy other things to reach a specific spending threshold.
"For example, to buy this bracelet, you would first have to spend fifty thousand Dragon Country dollars' worth on other goods. Only then do you earn the right to purchase the bracelet itself."
"And items that require this kind of purchase allocation cannot be bought cross-border."
"In fact, you don't even have to worry about cross-border sales, because they're all snapped up by people in their home country before they could ever be sold overseas."
The nurse never expected that a single bracelet would become her undoing.
Gritting her teeth, she blurted out, "Actually… this bracelet is a fake. It's a knockoff I bought."
"I only said it was real to save face!"
The surrounding nurses looked astonished.
They all remembered how incredibly smug she'd been when she first started wearing that bracelet, showing it off every single day. And it turned out to be a fake?
