Chapter 462: It's Not Your Fault
The next day at noon.
Lin Chuyue finally opened her eyes.
Xiao Ye was already up. "You're awake. Have some breakfast."
Lin Chuyue's face immediately flushed. Even though they had been intimate so many times, she still couldn't help but feel a little shy.
"I'm going to go wash up first."
After showering and having a quick bite to eat, she was about to say something when her phone suddenly vibrated.
She answered, and the doctor's voice came through. "The patient, Lin Chuxing, has fallen and is now in a coma."
"What!" Lin Chuyue shot up, the color instantly draining from her pretty face.
"How could this happen!" Without another word, she ran outside.
Xiao Ye quickly grabbed her. "Don't panic. I'll take you."
With that, he grabbed Lin Chuyue's coat and handbag, and they left.
She had already fallen, but the doctor hadn't issued a critical condition notice, which meant they still had time.
Xiao Ye drove, getting them to the nursing home as fast as he could.
Outside the intensive care unit.
Lin Chuyue's eyes were brimming with tears. "How could this happen!"
Jian Qiuyan and the others had also arrived.
Yesterday, they had split the duties. Jian Qiuyan was responsible for looking after Lin Chuxing, while Lin Feng took care of the old master.
But in the latter half of the night, Jian Qiuyan had fallen asleep on the companion bed, just as she usually did.
Who would have known that a sudden noise would jolt her awake early in the morning.
When she looked, she found that Lin Chuxing had actually rolled off the bed and fallen to the floor.
This gave Jian Qiuyan a terrible fright, and she immediately called for the doctors and nurses.
Now that Xiao Ye was here, the whole family seemed to have found their backbone.
Xiao Ye found the attending physician and asked about the situation.
This doctor was exceptionally skilled and famous, ranked among the top three in the country.
But now, faced with Lin Chuxing's condition, he simply shook his head. "Lin Chuxing's health is poor, but she has been undergoing rehabilitation for a long time."
"Logically speaking, a simple fall shouldn't have put her in a coma, so I had my team run a full battery of tests on her."
"Mr. Xiao, please be patient as well. We just have to wait for the results."
It wasn't until evening that the results were finally ready.
Lin Chuyue and the others, who hadn't eaten all day, immediately crowded around. "Doctor, how is my sister?"
"Please, family members, calm down. I need to speak with Mr. Xiao first."
"Okay." Lin Chuyue and the others stepped aside.
Xiao Ye was their spiritual pillar. Without him, the Lin Family might have been wiped out back in Jiangcheng.
The doctor and Xiao Ye entered the office together.
"Mr. Xiao, take a look. These are the latest test results. We found something unusual in Miss Lin's brain."
"It's somewhat similar to a blood clot, but not quite. We've checked, and although Miss Lin did hit her head, the impact wasn't severe."
"This clot doesn't seem to be from this fall."
Xiao Ye frowned slightly. "But Lin Chuxing had a full checkup when she first arrived. Her body was fine, and her brain was fine."
"If it wasn't caused by the fall, then where did it come from?"
After he spoke, he disinfected his hands and entered the intensive care unit.
Previously, when he had taken her pulse, he had mainly wanted to see why she was in a coma.
And the key to it all was in her head.
'There's definitely something inside, but it doesn't seem like a blood clot... It's more like a mass that can move. The brain is an incredibly delicate organ; no foreign object should be able to move around inside it, except for blood. If something were actually roaming around in there, not even a god could withstand it. She would have died long ago, let alone be lying so peacefully in a hospital bed, merely unconscious.'
"This probably isn't a blood clot, but I'm not sure what it is," Xiao Ye said, turning to the doctor who had followed him in. "Do you have more advanced equipment?"
"We do, but... in a case like Lin Chuxing's, I'm worried that using other instruments might provoke a reaction."
"It's fine. I'll be here to monitor things. You can begin."
With Xiao Ye's assistance, the doctor was naturally willing to proceed.
Just an hour later, the results from the newer machine were in.
It showed that the mass was indeed not a blood clot, but rather a patch of darker-colored blood, which was what created the shadow on the scan.
"It seems we'll have to draw blood for analysis!"
But drawing blood from the brain required immense skill; it wasn't something an ordinary person could do.
To ensure everything went safely, Xiao Ye prepared to supervise the entire procedure.
He first returned to the waiting area to see Jian Qiuyan and the others. "Don't worry, Lin Chuxing's condition isn't too serious."
"She's unconscious now not because of the fall, but because of a previous hidden injury."
Jian Qiuyan's eyes were already swollen from crying. "It's all my fault! If it weren't for me, this never would have happened!"
"I shouldn't have slept. I should have stayed by her side."
Lin Chuyue quickly hugged her. "Mom, it's not your fault. No one could have expected this to happen."
The hospital bed had guardrails; it was normally very difficult to fall out.
Besides, Lin Chuxing had been lying quietly in bed for months.
She probably fell because she was trying to do something on her own.
Lin Chuyue also felt a pang of guilt. 'If I had been the one keeping watch instead of Mom, would this have ever happened? I've spent so many nights on watch that I've basically been living at the nursing home. It's made me such a light sleeper that I wake up at the slightest sound. If I had been there, maybe Lin Chuxing wouldn't have fallen. And what was I doing when it happened? I was in Xiao Ye's arms, shamelessly so!'
Lin Feng comforted them softly from the side. "Alright, don't blame each other. This was just an accident."
"Didn't the doctor and Xiao Ye both say that Chuxing isn't in serious danger? Let's just trust him."
Hearing this, the two women finally felt a little better.
Xiao Ye offered a few simple words of comfort before rushing to the operating room.
Through a minimally invasive procedure, using equipment that allowed for comprehensive monitoring, they finally managed to safely guide a long needle into Lin Chuxing's brain and extract that bit of blood.
The blood wasn't red, but black. And compared to normal blood, it seemed to have a slightly different quality.
"Mr. Xiao, we've analyzed this blood and discovered a problem."
"This substance was likely hidden in Miss Lin's brain the whole time, but the fall dislodged it, which is what caused her to fall into a coma."
"This blood contains a toxin we've never seen before. Creating an antidote will be extremely difficult."
"Let's try anyway."
The toxins commonly used by the Angel Association were mostly pure chemical agents, many of which were their own creations.
Therefore, even Xiao Ye could only do his best to treat Lin Chuxing's condition; he had no way to detoxify the poison itself.
