Chapter 421: Have to Think of Another Way
Besides, there were surveillance cameras everywhere.
The important labs were all locked, and only authorized personnel could enter their respective areas. He didn't need to follow Xiao Ye around at all.
Not to mention, he was still furious and had no desire to even look at Xiao Ye.
This suited Xiao Ye just fine. He first went to his room, got the boy settled, and then began to wander around.
He appeared to be wandering aimlessly, but in reality, Xiao Ye was committing everything he saw to memory, even mentally mapping out the facility.
A few hours later, Xiao Ye had explored the entire laboratory.
He'd even peered through the glass windows of the areas he couldn't access.
Xiao Ye returned to his room, his heart heavy.
He hadn't found Lin Chuxing. 'Could she be in another lab?'
But the Angel Association had so many labs; he had no way of checking them one by one.
'It looks like I'll have to find another way.'
Three days passed quickly.
Xiao Ye left with the test subject.
He brought the boy back to his own place before setting off for the second laboratory.
This was a concession he had fought for—he was only allowed to visit two laboratories in total.
Once inside, Xiao Ye once again began to walk around and observe.
Although the members of the Angel Association knew he might have ulterior motives, they weren't worried.
For one, Xiao Ye was blindfolded every time he was brought over, so he had no idea of the location.
And even if he did, this was Country A—their home turf. What could Xiao Ye possibly do all by himself?
By now, however, Xiao Ye had already come up with a good plan.
The plan, however, came with a certain degree of risk.
He scouted the second laboratory and, as before, stayed for three days before leaving.
When Xiao Ye returned to his residence, the boy had changed into a new set of clothes. Thanks to Zhu Chen's counseling, he was smiling more, too.
He rushed to Xiao Ye's side, his eyes filled with dependence. "Uncle Xiao!"
Xiao Ye patted his head. "I've already sent people to look for your parents."
However, he felt the chances of finding them were slim. For one thing, if his parents were still alive, it was unlikely the Angel Association would have captured him in the first place.
And if there was something special about his case, they wouldn't have simply abandoned him.
Secondly, no records of the boy's identity could be found, as if they had been deliberately erased.
If they truly couldn't be found, Xiao Ye wouldn't mind sending him back to Dragon Country to be raised by the Xiao Family.
Two more days passed.
「Laboratory 2.」
Everything was proceeding as usual.
All the experiments were progressing steadily.
A test subject, a man who looked to be in his thirties, was wheeled into an operating room.
As the surgical lights flared to life, his fate was sealed.
Suddenly.
BOOM!
The ground trembled violently.
The ceiling overhead began to crumble and fall.
Countless pieces of lab equipment toppled to the floor.
A chorus of screams erupted as people fled in a frantic panic.
But they were in a sealed facility. No matter where they ran, there was no escape.
The laboratory's exterior was made of metal, while the interior used other materials.
The metal exterior was largely unaffected, but the interior materials had peeled away and collapsed. While no one was crushed to death, the damage was immense.
News of the incident quickly reached the Angel Association. They immediately dispatched a professional team to begin emergency repairs and personnel rescue operations.
A team entered the laboratory and quickly identified the cause.
"It was a bomb. The epicenter was in one of the restrooms, but we haven't found any remnants of the device."
"Normally, an explosion this powerful would be bound to leave some kind of trace, but we've found nothing at all."
'A bomb?'
The laboratory director who had come along looked grim. "How could there be a bomb!"
"Director, that man, Xiao Ye, was here."
Someone pointed out. They all knew each other well, and there hadn't been a single incident in years.
How could it be that just after an outsider like Xiao Ye visited, a bomb went off?
Just as the director was about to speak, one of the visiting experts spoke up. "This person you mentioned, when did he arrive, and when did he leave?"
"He arrived five days ago and left two days ago."
The expert's brow furrowed. "Two days? Are you certain?"
"Of course, we're sure," the researchers chimed in. They were anxious to find the culprit; otherwise, who would dare to continue doing experiments here?
If another bomb went off, they might not be so lucky next time.
Many of the reagents here were highly toxic; the slightest mishap could lead to fatal poisoning.
"If he really left two days ago, then it couldn't have been him. Timed or remote-detonated bombs of this nature would inevitably leave behind residual evidence after detonation."
"But we found nothing at the scene. Generally, only a self-contained bomb with no external components could leave such a clean site."
'Not Xiao Ye?'
'Then who else could it be?'
The experts began to discuss among themselves.
They quickly came to a conclusion: if Xiao Ye had left two days prior, then he absolutely could not be the one who planted the bomb!
To be certain, the laboratory director pulled up the surveillance footage and specifically reviewed the recordings from the three days Xiao Ye was present.
They even checked the footage from his private room.
But Xiao Ye's behavior was completely normal from start to finish. Other than wandering around the lab each day, there was nothing suspicious about his actions at all.
Moreover, when he went to the restroom, although he did pause near the explosion's point of origin, he didn't have nearly enough time to place a bomb.
The director reported this information to the Angel Association.
The Angel Association's leadership had initially been certain that Xiao Ye was the culprit, but all the evidence indicated that it was impossible for him to be the bomber!
"No, I still think it was Xiao Ye. If it wasn't him, who else could it be?"
"Besides, things have been fine for years. How is it that the moment an outsider shows up, something this major happens?"
"I agree, it has to be him!"
Xiao Ye had anticipated that the Angel Association would suspect him.
And in fact, he was the one who had done it.
He had planted the bomb.
He had simply used a different method to detonate it.
During his visit to the laboratory, Xiao Ye had noticed that the ventilation in Laboratory 2's restroom was poor.
If it wasn't cleaned diligently, certain gases were bound to accumulate.
And that was exactly what Xiao Ye needed.
So, he had drugged the water of the janitor responsible for cleaning the laboratory, leaving the man too weak to work. Since the toilets were self-flushing, no one would notice even if the janitor skipped his duties.
Then, Xiao Ye had planted the bomb he'd prepared, piece by piece, at the designated explosion site.
After that, all he had to do was leave and wait.
It would only take two days for the concentration of a certain element in the air to reach a critical level, which in turn would detonate the specially crafted bomb he had left behind.
This was the plan Xiao Ye had devised during his visit to the second laboratory!
