The Master Descends the Mountain: My Destined CEO

Chapter 246: Hidden Compartment

The woman sat on the ground, watching the scene unfold, sobbing uncontrollably.

She never thought she would live to see the day he would face consequences. She had even considered taking him down with her!

Lin Chuyue quickly helped the woman to her feet. "Don't cry. He's been arrested, so you've gotten your revenge."

"I know what happened in the past was painful, but it's over now. Things will definitely get better from here on out."

Lin Chuyue had experienced despair herself, so she knew just how precious her current life was.

'But… I still have my parents and my sister to find. All things considered, my life isn't exactly perfect.'

By the time things were handled there, it was almost noon.

After lunch, the three of them hurried to the address Li Ming had provided earlier.

As expected, it was a relatively small village.

Not only was it far from the city, located halfway up a mountain, but the farmhouses on the mountain were clearly in a state of disrepair. Many showed signs of collapse, and only a few people still lived there.

Xiao Ye led the way until he found the house.

It was obvious no one had lived there for a long time. The yard was overgrown with weeds.

Not only that, but the windows were also covered in dust.

But the owner had clearly prepared for a long absence before leaving, sealing the house from the outside.

This would keep the inside of the house relatively dry and protect the things within.

Xiao Ye reached for Lin Chuyue's hand.

But she pulled her hand back and tightened her clothes. "I can walk on my own. You go ahead and open the door."

Xiao Ye didn't say anything else. He walked through the weeds to the front door.

The lock was large, a complex combination lock that was difficult to open.

For Xiao Ye, however, this wasn't much of a problem.

A moment later, with a CLICK, the lock opened.

Xiao Ye opened the door. Just as he had expected, the inside was very dry.

Desiccant packs and other moisture-absorbing devices were hung up in many places.

Just inside the door was the kitchen. The pots and pans on the stove were covered in a thick layer of dust.

There were two bedrooms inside.

One on the left, one on the right. Judging by the items in the rooms, the master bedroom was likely occupied by a married couple, while the other room was occupied by a woman.

Xiao Ye had a feeling there should be more to this house than just this.

'Otherwise, why go to all the trouble of sealing it up so carefully from the outside?'

Mu Xiang walked up to a wardrobe. "There's definitely a hidden mechanism here. Haven't you noticed this wall has been redone? It's clearly not on the same plane as the wall on the other side."

"And the paint on the surface looks ordinary, but it's much more waterproof."

"It doesn't make sense for the other walls to be made of ordinary materials while this one uses high-quality stuff."

"Also, this wardrobe—I just opened it and took a look. There's more than enough space inside to hide a secret door."

Xiao Ye raised his eyebrows. He hadn't expected Mu Xiang to be so skilled in this area.

"Alright, you open it then."

Mu Xiang climbed into the wardrobe and fiddled around for a good while before she finally found a mechanism.

The bottom of the wardrobe opened up, revealing a hole just large enough for one person to climb down.

There was a ladder inside.

Mu Xiang went first, with Lin Chuyue second, and Xiao Ye bringing up the rear.

The three of them entered the basement and turned on their flashlights.

The beam of light instantly illuminated their surroundings.

The basement wasn't large; in fact, you could even call it small. With the three of them standing inside, it felt very cramped.

There weren't many things in the basement.

A box, and a memorial tablet.

Next to them was a small table with a desk lamp, paper, and a pen on it.

When Lin Chuyue saw the memorial tablet, she felt a little scared, a chill running down her spine. Just as she was about to look away, she suddenly sensed that something was off.

'Wait, the name on it… Why does it look so familiar?'

Forgetting her fear, she hurried over to get a closer look.

It was! A name she recognized!

"Xiao Ye, come quick!"

Xiao Ye immediately walked over. "What's wrong?"

"The name on this memorial tablet… it's exactly the same as my grandmother's. I don't know if it's a coincidence."

"I'm going to call my grandpa right now and ask if the date of birth matches."

Names could be the same, but it was unlikely for the birth dates to match as well.

Lin Chuyue took out her phone and dialed Lin Aoshan's number. The signal was poor down there, and it took her a long time before she could finally hear him clearly.

"It's the same! The name and birth date on the tablet are exactly the same as my grandmother's!"

"The only people who would set up a memorial tablet for my grandmother would be my father and mother!"

Lin Chuyue's hands couldn't help but tremble. "It must be them. Why else would they have this shrine?"

Xiao Ye glanced at the incense burner in front of him and the material of the tablet.

Indeed, this was the kind of setup used to honor a deceased relative. It was unlikely to be for some dark ritual or to suppress a spirit.

Xiao Ye was also inclined to believe Lin Chuyue's explanation. "Let's keep looking."

Mu Xiang called out, "There's a hidden compartment here!"

After opening it, they found a few very ordinary items inside.

Two small pieces of clothing, both girls' styles. One was embroidered with a star, the other with a moon.

Judging from the style and color, they were very old.

The last item was a notebook. Xiao Ye opened it and flipped through a few pages. It was a diary.

The handwriting was elegant, clearly that of a woman.

Lin Chuyue eagerly took it and began to read.

"Today is another day I miss my daughters. I wonder if Star and Moon are doing well. Please don't blame your father and me; we had no other choice."

"I don't know when these days will end. The only time I can truly relax is when I come down here to write in this diary."

"I pray that my two daughters can be safe, happy, and joyful forever."

"I pray…"

Almost every entry began with the words "I pray." The rest was mostly scattered thoughts.

"It has to be my sister and me! Star and Moon, that must be us!"

But no names were mentioned anywhere in the diary, which was strange.

Sometimes, symbols of a star and a moon were even used instead.

Xiao Ye picked up the diary. "We've searched pretty much everywhere down here. Come on, let's go look upstairs again."

The three of them spent the entire day in the farmhouse.

Finally, back in the hidden compartment inside the wardrobe, they found a business card.

The card was for a clinic and had an address on it.

'Why would a business card be kept in a hidden compartment? There must be something to this!'

"Let's go. We'll check out this clinic. We might find something."

"Okay!"

Lin Chuyue got into the car, clutching the diary tightly in her hand.

She was now more certain than ever that her parents were still alive!

She had seen the love letters her parents wrote to each other before, which Lin Aoshan had kept in pristine condition.

He had kept them from her at first, afraid it would make her sad. But later, when she was older and wanted to know about her parents' relationship, he finally showed them to her.

The handwriting was the same. It had to be from the same person!
