Only Got My Martial Arts Modifier in My Old Age

Chapter 187 - 104: The World’s Pace of Development, Living from the Republic Era to the New Era?

Lu Yun looked at Zhang Cheng’an’s corpse on the ground and flexed his left fist. A faint ache spread from his knuckles.

He looked down at his hand, then at the corpse lying in the ruins—or more precisely, the armor it was wearing.

On the chest, a shallow dent was clearly visible—the mark left by his punch.

Lu Yun’s brow furrowed slightly. ’This turtle shell really is tough.’

With his current physical strength, combined with the power of his Divine Will True Qi, a single punch should have been enough to shatter a block of iron.

But this thing had only dented a little, and his hand had, for once, actually felt pain. And though the pain was minuscule and fleeting, it was pain nonetheless.

’Looks like this thing is harder than iron.’ Lu Yun crouched down to examine the armor closely.

It was pitch-black and metallic, with a texture that felt different from ordinary steel. The joints were exquisitely crafted, clearly a product of the latest Western World craftsmanship.

Lu Yun had also read Zhang Cheng’an’s file. The man was close to the consul from the Great United States, so this armor was likely developed there.

’This thing is good stuff. I should take it back and see if it’s still usable.’

If not for his Divine Will True Qi, which could strike directly on a spiritual level, killing this guy in his turtle shell with physical attacks alone would have probably taken some effort.

As for a Grandmaster of Huajin, it was hard to say if their Qi could even penetrate this turtle shell.

Even if it did get through, the power of the Qi would be drastically weakened by this layer of metal.

In other words, a Grandmaster of Huajin at the same level as Zhang Cheng’an would be utterly defenseless against this suit of armor.

At this thought, Lu Yun’s gaze fell upon the dent again, and a flicker of apprehension crossed his eyes.

’If this thing can be mass-produced...’ He shook his head, pushing the thought aside for now.

Whether it could be mass-produced was a matter for the future. What mattered now was that the world was developing at an astonishingly fast pace.

From Western guns and cannons to airplanes and warships, and now to armor that could withstand his punch—how many years had it been?

Lu Yun suddenly felt a little dazed. If things kept developing at this rate, with his lifespan of over two hundred years, wouldn’t he be able to witness firsthand the kind of immensely powerful thermal weapons from his previous life?

The things he had only ever seen in movies and books, and even nuclear weapons, said to be "as eternal as heaven and earth, capable of annihilating all creation."

The corner of Lu Yun’s mouth curved up slightly. ’Now this is getting interesting.’

’Could it be that in my lifetime, I’ll really get to live from this old era, one similar to the Republic of China, all the way into that new one?’

’Me, a relic of the old era, might actually have a chance to board the ship of the new age...’

’No, that’s not right. I shouldn’t call it an era similar to the Republic of China. I’m a Martial Champion Scholar from the feudal era of the Yin Dynasty who will live all the way into that brand new future age.’

Lu Yun was already starting to look forward to it—to seeing with his own eyes what that era would be like.

’Of course, all of this depends on just how troublesome those Outer Celestial Demons are. If all of humanity is possessed, that new era will naturally never arrive.’

Just then, the sound of hurried but orderly footsteps came from downstairs.

Lu Yun pulled back from his thoughts and turned toward the stairwell. Soon, a familiar figure appeared in his line of sight.

It was Lu Fu, followed by a dense crowd of solemn-faced men, each holding a Western-style rifle. A quick count revealed at least two hundred of them.

Lu Fu strode quickly to Lu Yun and bowed. "Master!"

Lu Yun pointed to the corpse on the floor and said calmly, "Ah Fu, take the armor off this guy and bring it back."

"There are still some remnants upstairs. You handle them."

Lu Fu nodded quickly. "Yes, Master!"

With that, he immediately turned and waved to the two hundred men behind him.

The men understood at once and split into several teams. Some went forward to deal with Zhang Cheng’an’s corpse, others charged toward the rooms down the hall, and the rest began to search the entire villa.

Lu Yun watched this scene and nodded slightly. He could always count on Ah Fu to get things done.

He said no more, leaning on his Wisteria Spirit Staff as he walked toward the stairwell.

From behind him, Lu Fu’s voice drifted over faintly. "You few, strip that armor off him. Be careful, don’t damage it!"

"And you, take some men and check the basement! Don’t miss a single corner!"

"Remember, take everything of value! Documents, money, weapons—if it’s useful, haul it all back to the Lu Family!"

"Move it! We need to have this place cleaned out before dawn!"

Lu Fu stood in the second-floor hallway, directing the two hundred-plus men. Once all his orders were given, he turned to face the few dozen elite men behind him.

"The rest of you, follow me upstairs. Leave no survivors from the Zhang Family."

If you don’t cut the weeds by the root, they’ll grow back when the spring winds blow. Lu Fu understood this principle better than anyone.

It was still dark, just past three in the morning—the darkest time of the night.

Longyuan Bay Pier, however, was unnaturally bright. Torches were stuck in the ground every few steps along the pier, illuminating the entire area as if it were day.

In addition, there were oil lamps hanging on wooden posts and several large searchlights that had been brought out from a warehouse.

A glance revealed a dense crowd of people; over two hundred of the Lu Family’s security personnel were lined up in neat formations on the pier.

Every one of them held a gun, including rifles, Mauser pistols, and light machine guns—they had just about everything.
