Chapter 184 - 103: The Flesh is Weak, Machine Ascension! Death of the Governor of Yun Port City
"Grandmaster of Divine Intent!!!"
Gasps of shock rose one after another. The soldiers’ gun barrels began to tremble, their faces growing paler by the second.
A man’s reputation precedes him, just as a tree casts a shadow. The title "Grandmaster of Divine Intent" was not to be taken lightly.
Compared to the other stunned soldiers, the officer who served as Zhang Cheng’an’s personal guard reacted completely differently.
A vicious glint flashed in his eyes as his hand went to his gun holster.
The next second, the officer swiftly drew his pistol, aimed at Lu Yun, and frantically pulled the trigger.
But at that moment, Lu Yun had already thrown a punch with his left fist.
An earthen-yellow fist shadow, several meters tall, swept over the two rows of soldiers!
Amidst a dull thud, the dozen or so men were all sent flying backward, slamming into the heavy iron gate behind them!
A tremendous CRASH erupted. The iron gate burst open on impact, its hinges breaking and panels warping, as it collapsed to the ground along with the soldiers’ bodies.
The soldiers lay on the ground, their eyes wide open, their faces still frozen with the expressions they had in life.
Stunned, bewildered, terrified.
Until the moment of their death, they all believed they were being crushed by a boundless mountain falling from the sky.
The image in their minds was so real, so stunning, that it made them forget it was just an illusion.
The huge commotion had already alerted everyone in front of the villa. The patrolling soldiers all whipped their heads around to look toward the entrance.
Then they saw the massive iron gate toppled on the ground, a floor of bodies lying at the entrance, and a dark figure stepping over them to walk inside.
"Enemy attack!!!"
"We have an enemy!!!"
The patrolling soldiers raised their rifles one after another and fired frantically at the figure!
As bullets rained down on him, Lu Yun didn’t dodge. He simply planted the Wisteria Spirit Staff into the ground with one hand and made a grasping motion in the air with both.
The two pistols that had just fallen to the ground flew up as if pulled by an invisible hand, landing steadily in Lu Yun’s palms.
Then he opened fire. In the distance, a soldier who was shooting crumpled to the ground. A closer look would reveal a bloody hole right between his eyebrows.
Lu Yun continued walking forward as he fired. The bullets striking his body produced a series of crisp "CLINK CLANK" sounds before deflecting and falling to the ground.
The soldiers on the other side watched this unfold, their eyes wide, their faces gradually showing expressions of incredulous terror.
’Bullets can’t kill him? What kind of monster is this?’
The guns in Lu Yun’s hands never stopped for a moment. With every shot, a man fell.
Of the more than one hundred patrolling soldiers, over half were down in less time than it takes to drink a cup of tea.
The remaining twenty-some men had completely broken down. Some threw down their guns and ran; others collapsed to the ground, trembling uncontrollably.
A man who looked like a squad leader hid behind a stone pillar, screaming at the top of his lungs, "It’s Advisor Lu! It’s the Grandmaster of Divine Intent!"
"Go inform the Governor! Go—" Before he could finish the last word, a bullet flew from the distance and pierced his head.
Lu Yun slowly lowered the guns. He looked down at his clothes and shook his head gently.
’This outfit is ruined again. It’s full of holes from the bullets.’
Then, Lu Yun casually tossed aside the two empty pistols, walked over to the Wisteria Spirit Staff planted in the ground, and took hold of it.
In the second-floor living room, a man in a blue military uniform sat on a sofa.
He had bronze skin and several scars crisscrossing his face.
This was Governor Zhang Cheng’an of Yun Port City. His expression was grim and uncertain as he listened to the gunfire outside.
"The gunfire... has it stopped?" Zhang Cheng’an said, his tone betraying no emotion.
Then, he looked at the man sitting on the sofa opposite him—a man with a buzz cut and dressed in simple black training clothes, with a stern face and deep wrinkles.
Zheng Zhishan, chief instructor of the Yun Port City garrison, one of the four advisors for the Yun Port City Divine Land Martial Arts Demonstration, and an Early-stage Grandmaster of Huajin.
Zhang Cheng’an spoke. "Old Zheng, is that Lu Yun really a Grandmaster of Divine Intent? Have you already witnessed his power firsthand?"
Hearing this, Zheng Zhishan looked up at his old superior. He didn’t want to answer this question again.
’That bastard Zhang Cheng’an keeps asking, and I’ve already tried to talk him out of it.’
"Old Zhang, you can’t afford to provoke that man. The realm of a Grandmaster of Divine Intent is nothing a Huajin can compare to. If you try to make a move, you’ll only be walking to your death."
At the time, Zhang Cheng’an had just smiled, clapped him on the shoulder, and said, "Old Zheng, don’t worry. I know my limits."
’Know your limits? Does "knowing your limits" mean you plan to call in troops from outside the city to annihilate the Lu Family? Is that what you call knowing your limits?’
Zheng Zhishan continued, "Old Zhang, you still walked this path in the end. Trying to move against that man is a dead end."
Zhang Cheng’an suddenly laughed. "Old Zheng, do you think the little tricks you people have been playing can fool me, the Governor?"
Zheng Zhishan’s brow furrowed slightly as Zhang Cheng’an continued, "That bastard surnamed Yuan deserves to die."
"When he propped me up for this position, he said something like, ’The Zhang Family has been loyal for generations and is worthy of great responsibility.’"
"And now? For the sake of his bullshit dream of becoming Emperor, he’s going to kick me to the curb?"
He turned and stared at Zheng Zhishan, his eyes burning with furious rage. "On what grounds? No one is qualified to snatch the position of Governor of Yun Port City from under me!"
"This belongs to our Zhang Family!"
Zheng Zhishan watched him in silence. Zhang Cheng’an took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions.
"It seems that old man has already come knocking. It’s not just you, Old Zheng. To think that even one of my personal guards betrayed me. Otherwise, how could he have found out so quickly that I was planning to mobilize the garrison?"
