The Master and His Wealthy Fiancée

Chapter 213: Entering the City

Corpse Dove was tossed down along with him.

Chen Dong looked at the ugly, bizarre bird. "What, you got thrown down here too?"

Corpse Dove squawked, "From now on, kid, you'll call me Lord Corpse Dove. I'm here to keep an eye on you, obviously, and to give you a piece of my mind so you don't do anything stupid!"

Chen Dong chuckled. "You featherless bird, and you want me to call you 'Lord Corpse Dove'!"

Corpse Dove squawked frantically in a rage, its beak glowing with a black light as it postured to unleash one of its Innate Divine Techniques on Chen Dong.

The power of that black light was not to be underestimated. Chen Dong was instantly on guard, a protective aura materializing around him.

"Both of you will behave. If you haven't finished searching the Qiankun Realm in twenty days, I will let you have a taste of the Netherworld!"

Lord You's voice rang in the minds of the man and the bird, and the two, who had been at each other's throats, instantly stood down.

Chen Dong backed down because he knew he couldn't defeat the one called Lord You, so he submitted for now. But when Lord You mentioned the Netherworld, Corpse Dove's pupil-less, crimson eyes actually showed fear. 'That Netherworld must not be a pleasant place,' he thought.

Corpse Dove trembled with its head lowered. Only after a long moment of silence from Lord You did it slowly raise its head. It circled Chen Dong twice and sent a cold message via sound transmission, "Lord You's power is beyond your imagination. The inscription on your hand isn't just for finding Lord Ming; it's also a means of controlling you. You'd better not even think about defying Lord You, or you won't even know what killed you!"

Chen Dong naturally remained wary of Lord You's unfathomably mysterious Realm. He wouldn't choose to resist unless absolutely necessary. However, he had no such patience for Corpse Dove. If it weren't for this strange bird, he would never have realized his memories were incomplete, his childhood memories wouldn't have been awakened, and he certainly wouldn't have appeared in Beijing only to be captured by Lord You.

So, he said coldly to Corpse Dove, "You featherless bird, I'll investigate the Qiankun Realm myself. Don't follow me. I have no desire to be hunted down like some demon!"

Not to be outdone, Corpse Dove sneered back coldly, "You damn baldy! As if this lord would deign to follow you. I will merely stay in your vicinity. And let me remind you again: do not reveal Lord You's existence. Otherwise, don't blame Lord Corpse Dove for not warning you when you suddenly drop dead."

Chen Dong squeezed his left hand. 'This inscription seems even more terrifying than I imagined.'

Chen Dong snorted, ignored Corpse Dove, and walked forward. Corpse Dove followed leisurely from behind and sent another sound transmission. "Damn baldy, this lord will teach you a Transmission Technique so that others don't overhear you when you report to me." As it spoke, it flapped its wings, and a single black feather shot toward Chen Dong.

Chen Dong turned and caught the feather. A technique that wasn't particularly esoteric or difficult to understand was transmitted into his mind by Corpse Dove.

Once the technique was fully transmitted, Corpse Dove said arrogantly, "This Black Feather is the tool for us to communicate. If anything comes up, you can use it to report to me via sound transmission."

The Transmission Technique wasn't long. Chen Dong understood the principle after hearing it just once. It involved using special fluctuations of Divine Sense to establish a secure and confidential channel for information. Then, you would use your Divine Sense to convey what you wanted to say. It was a rudimentary application of Divine Sense.

However, at his current Realm, Chen Dong couldn't yet wield Divine Sense. That was precisely the point of this technique—it used True Qi and one's perception to simulate Divine Sense and achieve the effect of sound transmission.

Having grasped the principle, Chen Dong's keen perception allowed him to quickly master the Sound Transmission Technique. He picked up the Black Feather and immediately tested it out: "Stupid bird!"

Corpse Dove instantly flew into a rage. "You damn baldy, you're cursing this lord again!" Then its bird eyes widened. Chen Dong's voice had just been transmitted to it, not spoken aloud.

Corpse Dove exclaimed in amazement, "I didn't think a damn baldy like you would have such good comprehension. You learned it after hearing it just once!"

Chen Dong chuckled and continued his taunt: "Stupid bird!"

Corpse Dove screeched, "You brat, are you looking to die?!"

Seeing Corpse Dove was on the verge of exploding, Chen Dong stopped teasing it. He put away the Black Feather and headed toward a place where he could see cooking smoke.

Chen Dong walked into an inhabited area, which turned out to be a quaint little city with ancient-style architecture, mostly constructed from wood and tile. The only thing built of stone was the city wall, which was not high—only about thirty feet. Any Grandmaster could easily leap over it, so it was certainly no obstacle for Chen Dong.

Chen Dong didn't know the time in the Qiankun Realm. Although the sky was beginning to lighten, he had no intention of waiting for the city gates to open.

After vaulting the wall and entering the city, Chen Dong was slightly taken aback. The seemingly humble little city actually held hidden wonders. Not just the lighting fixtures, but the paving stones on the ground, and even the potted plants outside people's homes were treasures that would be priceless in the modern world.

Just in the few small houses Chen Dong passed, the timber used for construction was Tranquil Wood. This type of wood had the effect of calming the mind and dispelling inner demons. Cultivating in an environment of Tranquil Wood not only allowed one to get twice the results with half the effort but also protected against the torment of a Heart Demon. In the eyes of a Martial Artist, this wood was even more valuable than huanghuali pearwood.

Chen Dong sighed internally. 'The environment here is almost on par with Celestial Essence Mountain. It seems the people in this Qiankun Realm are all filthy rich!'

Walking through an alley, Chen Dong came to the edge of a small square. Numerous cooking stoves were built in the square, and many people were already bustling about next to them, carrying large woks and preparing to light fires to cook. They were all wearing uniforms of the same style: a white athletic top, long pants for the men, shorts for the women, and white-trimmed cloth shoes. A large character for 'Tian' was embroidered on every athletic top!

A middle-aged man spotted Chen Dong. In his casual suit, Chen Dong's outsider status was immediately obvious. The man shouted at the top of his lungs, "Hey, you, kid over there! Where are you from?"
