Chapter 192: Piss Him Off
Who could be so ignorant?
Cao Su turned and fixed a deathly glare on the speaker. It was a young man she had never seen before, and he was only at the True Qi Realm, yet he was this arrogant.
The speaker was Tang Xian's grandson, Tang Juncai, who had just woken up.
He had come to Jiangzhou to join the Military Suppression Department. His True Qi cultivation level already met the entry requirements, and with his grandfather looking out for him, he had planned to make a grand debut in the department and leave his peers in the dust. But who could have guessed that right after arriving in Jiangzhou and checking into his hotel, he would run into Chen Dong and get a sound beating.
On the verge of joining the Military Suppression Department, he already considered himself one of its members. With the Department seemingly having Chen Dong cornered, he saw the perfect opportunity for revenge. Plus, if he could show off in front of a major figure like the Domain Lord, it would surely make her look at him with new respect.
Tang Xian, who was standing right beside Tang Juncai, was both shocked and furious when he heard this. He was the last person who wanted to see Chen Dong captured. 'The Domain Lord hasn't even said anything,' he thought, 'what's this little brat spouting nonsense for? It's obvious even the Domain Lord can't handle him right now, so what makes you think she needs you telling her what to do? You're simply courting death!'
Seeing the murderous look in Cao Su's eyes, Tang Xian grew even more terrified. As much as he wanted to beat his worthless grandson to death himself, the boy was still his own flesh and blood. He stepped forward and, with a decisive chop to the back of the neck, knocked Tang Juncai unconscious once again.
"Domain Lord, the boy just woke up and is talking nonsense. Please, just pretend you didn't hear him!" Tang Xian said awkwardly.
Before Tang Juncai passed out, he saw that it was his own grandfather who had struck him down. His eyes filled with confusion and resentment, as if to ask, 'Why did you knock me out again?'
At this point, Cao Su was in an extremely awkward position. 'Pretend I didn't hear him? How can I just "un-hear" something like that? Chen Dong is standing right here, and the challenge has been made. How can I not arrest him now? Just pretend I didn't hear? Seriously?'
Chen Dong glanced at the unconscious Tang Juncai. 'If Tang Xian hadn't been so quick,' he thought, 'I would have gone over and crushed that brat myself. There's no need to fight the Military Suppression Department to the death right now, but surrendering is obviously out of the question. It looks like negotiating to have the wanted order rescinded isn't going to happen today.'
And so, Chen Dong announced coldly, "We're done for today!"
With that, his figure vanished into the moonlit night.
Only after confirming that Chen Dong was gone did Cao Su dispel her External Manifestation.
Xu Zong stepped forward, gave two awkward coughs, and asked in a low voice, "Domain Lord, are we... going after him?"
Cao Su shot him a cold glance. "Chase my ass! You're here just in time. Let me ask you: how did he end up at our Military Suppression Department camp today, and why did you get into a fight with him?"
Xu Zong lowered his head. "He escaped from me last time, and I've felt it was my duty to bring him back. I stepped outside for some air today and just happened to see him arriving at the camp. I couldn't stop myself from making a move. According to the person he was with, he's here to ask us to rescind his wanted order."
Cao Su asked with a flicker of interest, "Isn't it perfectly normal that you failed to capture someone in the External Manifestation Realm? You should count yourself lucky to be alive. Now, what's this about a wanted order?"
Xu Zong's face flushed. He took out his phone, pulled up the wanted order for Cao Su, and said, "I didn't know he was at the External Manifestation Realm at the time. I was the one who issued the wanted order. He killed one of our Inspectors of the Hundred Flags in the prison."
Cao Su snorted. "Why would an Inspector of the Hundred Flags have gone to the prison? Do you know the reason for that?"
Keeping his head down, Xu Zong replied, "The prison guards claimed that Chen Dong demanded that the Inspector of the Hundred Flags, a man named Tang Mincai, see him personally. The man ended up dead in the cell, and Chen Dong used the opportunity to escape."
The evidence in the cell and the relevant personnel had all been tampered with by Tang Xian. Xu Zong had gone back to investigate, but all the evidence still pointed to Chen Dong committing murder to facilitate his escape.
Cao Su listened as if she were hearing a joke. She said coldly, "The base's high-security prison may be able to hold someone at the Tiangang Realm, but it can't hold someone at the External Manifestation Realm. Since none of you have reached that realm, you wouldn't know, but if he wanted to escape, he wouldn't have needed to kill anyone. What's more, if he didn't want to be caught in the first place, you never would have been able to. There are far too many holes in this story."
Cao Su began to walk, murmuring softly, "What did you say that Inspector of the Hundred Flags was named again? Oh, right, Tang Mincai. His surname is Tang... Don't investigate this any further. And as for Chen Dong's case, just drop it."
Xu Zong followed beside her and asked, "Then his wanted order, should we..."
Before he could finish, Cao Su snapped, "Leave it up. Keep him on the list! He's a grand master of the External Manifestation Realm; you think a wanted order is going to scare him?!" This was just a fit of pique on Cao Su's part, mostly born from the resentment she felt as she looked around at the camp, which had been left in shambles by the battle's aftermath.
"Should we at least update the bounty and his description?" Xu Zong asked cautiously, sensing Cao Su's foul mood.
"Change nothing! Leave it as is. Let it piss him off!"
Meanwhile, Chen Dong was heading back to the Yunxuan Hotel, but he hadn't gone far before he sensed a presence trailing him.
A flicker of conflict stirred in his heart. 'Some things,' he thought, 'just can't be avoided.'
Chen Dong stopped in his tracks and said calmly, "Come out."
But there was no sound or movement from the surroundings.
Chen Dong took a deep breath and said, a bit more gently this time, "I know it's you. Come out."
After a long pause, a graceful figure emerged from the moonlit shadows.
