Chapter 184: Wang Mengyu's Prank
When Li Huiran returned to the company holding the signed contract, the entire office erupted in celebration. This included the security guard and the cleaning lady, as they would be getting bonuses as well.
Li Huiran was like a victorious General, mobbed by everyone in the center of the office as countless party poppers and streams of champagne were sprayed at her.
Even though the Zhao Family's demands were steep, completing this project would guarantee the Li Family's expansion beyond Jiangzhou.
After an afternoon of celebration, Li Huiran booked a banquet and invited all company employees to the dinner party.
To make it convenient for everyone, Li Huiran booked the nearby Yunxuan Hotel. She also invited her best friend, Wang Mengyu. Wang Mengyu had been nagging her to arrange a meeting with Chen Dong, so this was the perfect opportunity.
Li Huiran brushed the champagne and confetti off herself and changed into a light blue-green dress. The President was just different; Li Huiran kept quite a few outfits at the office.
Soon, the entire company trooped boisterously over to the Yunxuan Hotel. After getting everyone settled, Li Huiran waited at the entrance for Wang Mengyu.
Before long, Wang Mengyu arrived. She had clearly dressed up for the occasion, wearing a pencil skirt that accentuated her figure and aura, paired with black stockings and elegant high heels.
Li Huiran led Wang Mengyu inside, heading straight for the innermost table, which was reserved for the company's senior executives. As a mere team leader, Chen Dong was naturally not seated there.
Wang Mengyu frowned and asked Li Huiran, "Where's Chen Dong?"
Li Huiran pointed to a table further out where the General Affairs and Sales departments were combined. General Affairs didn't have enough people to fill a table, and Sales had too many for just one.
Wang Mengyu grinned wickedly. "I'm sitting over there!"
Li Huiran wasn't worried about any conflict breaking out between them, so she said, "Fine by me. I'll come find you in a bit."
Chen Dong was sitting between Wang Hao on one side and Xu Qing on the other. Wang Mengyu walked up to Wang Hao, clapped him on the shoulder, and said, "Hey, handsome. I'd like to sit here."
Seeing that the beautiful woman was clearly there for Brother Dong, Wang Hao hastily switched seats.
Chen Dong found this odd and whispered, "Why aren't you with Li Huiran? What do you want with me?" He was a little afraid of her; last time, she'd even dared to touch him with her foot right in front of Li Huiran.
Wang Mengyu smiled faintly. "To sit next to you, of course!"
Seeing them sitting so close, Xu Qing felt a pang of jealousy and asked, "Brother Dong, who is she?"
Chen Dong put on a mock-horrified, mysterious expression. "She's President Li's best friend!" At his words, everyone else at the table instantly turned their attention to her. Chen Dong continued, "Let me tell you, you're better off offending President Li than offending this woman. She'll make your life a living hell, and President Li will even help her do it!"
The others at the table shot terrified looks at Wang Mengyu. Although they knew he was partly joking, they now felt genuinely wary of her.
Xu Qing found it strange. 'If she's President Li's best friend, why is she coming to see you instead of President Li?' But out of respect for President Li, she didn't voice her question.
Wang Mengyu, however, pinched Chen Dong's thigh. "Well, well, Chen Dong. How dare you talk about me like that!"
The pinch was vicious, clearly carrying the weight of a personal grudge.
Chen Dong winced in pain and immediately considered switching seats. However, seeing that no one else seemed to know Wang Mengyu, he dismissed the idea.
There were sunflower seeds and fruit on the table, but the main courses hadn't arrived yet. Since the banquet was booked on short notice, the food service was a little slow.
Wang Mengyu then said to Chen Dong, "Get me an orange."
Chen Dong's first instinct was to tell her to get it herself. But then he glanced at her low-cut dress. If she bent over to grab an orange, she would definitely expose herself. The guys across the table seemed to have realized this too; they stared expectantly at Wang Mengyu's chest, deliberately not passing the oranges that were right in front of them.
Chen Dong had no choice but to get up and grab an orange for her.
But as it turned out, Wang Mengyu had an ulterior motive. She just wanted to prank Chen Dong to get her revenge for that other night. As Chen Dong stood up, she pulled his chair away.
Xu Qing, absorbed in her phone, didn't notice.
Chen Dong returned with the orange, handed it to Wang Mengyu, and without a second thought, plopped down.
But the result left Wang Mengyu dumbfounded. Instead of the chaotic tumble she'd expected, Chen Dong simply sat down in mid-air, and even crossed his legs.
Seeing the look on Wang Mengyu's face, Chen Dong asked, "What's wrong?"
Wang Mengyu quickly shook her head. It was Xu Qing, sitting next to him, who noticed and pointed out to Chen Dong that his chair was missing.
When one plan failed, she came up with another. Wang Mengyu got up, went to the bar, and ordered a custom cocktail. After adding a few special ingredients of her own, she brought it straight to Chen Dong.
"This is for you!"
Apparently, this was the best prank Wang Mengyu could come up with.
Chen Dong shook his head and sighed. "Lady, if you're going to prank me, could you at least put some thought into it? Or did all your brainpower go somewhere else?"
Chen Dong's eyes scanned her up and down. As dense as Wang Mengyu might be, she knew exactly what he was implying.
She puffed out her chest slightly. "Is there anything wrong with it growing here?"
Chen Dong conceded, "Good! It's very good!"
With that, he picked up the cocktail and began to sip it. 'A little laxative won't have any effect on me. What's the harm in drinking it to humor her? All I want is for her to leave me alone after this.'
Wang Mengyu's eyes widened in astonishment. "You know there's something wrong with it, and you're still drinking it?"
Chen Dong took another small sip. "I'm just playing along. Didn't want to waste that look on your face." He didn't particularly like the taste of the cocktail; Chen Dong much preferred the clean, potent flavor of a good baijiu.
