Chapter 154: Called to School
When it came to Li Wang, Chen Dong never dared to be careless. One wrong move and his life would be on the line. On a larger scale, the entire population of Jiangzhou might not escape the consequences.
Chen Dong soon arrived at Li Wang's elementary school. Most of the students had already left; only a few remained to clean up. The first-grade section, where Li Wang was, was completely deserted.
When he reached her teacher's office, only Li Wang and one teacher were inside. Li Wang was sitting in a chair, dangling her short legs and playing on a phone, while her homeroom teacher, a young man, stood beside her like a servant, feeding her snacks.
The scene was so ridiculous that Chen Dong slapped his forehead. He really didn't want to see this.
But he had no choice. Chen Dong took a quiet breath, squared his shoulders, and knocked on the door. "Hello, Teacher. I'm Li Wang's guardian."
Seeing Chen Dong enter, the teacher straightened up, put down the snacks, and his amiable expression turned cold. "Hello. I'm Li Wang's homeroom teacher. My surname is Wang; you can call me Teacher Wang."
Chen Dong gave a slight nod. "Teacher Wang, what was so important that you had to call me here?"
At these words, Teacher Wang's expression grew even colder. "Here's the situation. On her very first day of school, your Li Wang threatened every single one of her classmates. She demanded they pay her tribute, or she would beat them up. The few students who refused to listen were beaten by her!"
Chen Dong's face went pale with shock. He quickly asked, "Are those children... still alive?"
Teacher Wang shot Chen Dong a strange look. "Mr. Li, what kind of question is that? Of course they're fine. If something serious had happened, do you think I'd be standing here talking to you right now?"
Chen Dong chuckled awkwardly. "My name is Chen Dong. My surname isn't Li."
Teacher Wang gave Chen Dong another odd look. "Alright then, Mr. Chen. Fortunately, the other parents were reasonable. When they saw Li Wang was just a little girl, they didn't pursue the matter. I've managed to keep this under wraps for now, but I have to ask: how are you raising this child? She's such a beautiful little girl, but she's been taught to act like a little thug. This is only first grade! What's going to happen later on?"
Chen Dong really wanted to say that if Li Wang threatened him, he would have to pay tribute as well.
But he couldn't say that. To preserve his dignity as her guardian, he adopted the faintest hint of an authoritative tone. "Li Wang, how could you do such a thing?"
Li Wang tilted her head. "But Mama, isn't this how it was in ancient times? Powerful countries could make other countries pay tribute!"
Teacher Wang shot Chen Dong another strange look. "Excuse me, what is your gender?"
Speechless, Chen Dong coughed twice. "Male! I'm male!"
Teacher Wang let out a long, meaningful "Ohhhhh...!"
Chen Dong grew a little awkward. 'This teacher seems a bit unprofessional,' he thought. He cleared his throat and said sternly, "The child's education! Let's focus on her education!"
Teacher Wang nodded quickly.
Chen Dong feigned a frown and said to Li Wang, "Li Wang! Classmates aren't countries, and this isn't ancient times. You have to get along with your classmates. You can't bully them!"
Li Wang tilted her head again. "If they won't pay tribute, can I collect an annual levy instead?"
Chen Dong felt a headache coming on. 'Where on earth does she learn these things?' He quickly said, "No! Just treat them like allied nations—the kind that are supposed to help each other!"
Li Wang shook her head. "Don't all countries eventually fight and conquer one another? What kind of allied nations actually help each other?"
Seeing that this line of reasoning wasn't working, Chen Dong changed his tack. "Don't think of them as countries. They're your classmates. People you study with."
Li Wang nodded. "I get it. It's Grandma's fault. This morning she told me that if anyone at school dared to bully me, I should just tell her, because the Li Family isn't afraid of anyone! So to keep them from bullying me, I figured I had to beat them into submission first!"
Chen Dong's eyebrow twitched. 'So she sees each family as a separate country, and it seems she feels insecure.' He stepped forward and hugged Li Wang. "I'm here. No one will bully you."
Li Wang smiled and nodded. "Mhm! I get it. I won't hit them anymore. Actually, I didn't even hit them today. They were the ones hitting me. In the end, they were the ones who started crying because they were in pain."
'So that's how it was,' Chen Dong thought. 'No wonder those kids are still alive.'
He turned to the teacher. "Well, Teacher Wang? Do you think she's been educated enough now?"
Teacher Wang clearly had more he wanted to say, but he held his tongue and just nodded that it was fine.
Chen Dong took Li Wang's hand and bid farewell to Teacher Wang. Just as they stepped out of the school gates, they ran into Xia Yi, who was waiting anxiously. She only relaxed once she saw Li Wang was safe.
Chen Dong said, "You know, Li Wang doesn't really need to go to school."
Xia Yi immediately shot back, "Absolutely not! She's at the right age, so she should be in school!"
Li Wang chimed in, "I actually kind of like it here. The other students are so dumb, they're cute!"
Chen Dong wanted to say, 'I'm not worried about you, I'm worried about them.' But seeing how happy Li Wang looked, he hesitated.
So, Chen Dong said again, "Then you have to promise me you won't bully them anymore."
Li Wang nodded her little head enthusiastically.
Chen Dong relented. He could only hope Li Wang truly understood what he meant.
They returned to the Li Family Manor. While the others watched TV in the living room, Chen Dong played chess with Li Qinghe.
A short while later, the roar of a Ferrari sounded outside. Li Huiran burst into the living room, saying frantically, "They've changed the person in charge of the Sunshine Project bid!"
