The Master and His Wealthy Fiancée

Chapter 113: You Just Wait a Little Longer

Seeing Zhuang Zhongjia, Li Huiran had deliberately driven that way. She had never forgotten the ungrateful old man and wanted to give him a good scare on purpose.

It was also because of Zhuang Zhongjia that she, having originally intended to just drop Chen Dong off, got out of the car. She walked over to him and whispered, "Zhuang Zhongjia is the Zhao Family's managing secretary in Jiangzhou. It's best not to burn all your bridges with him. We might have to deal with him later for the Qingtian International project."

With that, Li Huiran drove off in her Ferrari.

Chen Dong rubbed his chin. Only now did he understand Zhuang Zhongjia's role. 'It seems Li Huiran is always thinking about the Li Family's best interests,' he thought. 'Li Qinghe, on the other hand, had no such qualms and told me to teach Zhuang Zhongjia a proper lesson if I got the chance.'

Zhuang Zhongjia, who had nearly suffered a heart attack from the scare, finally snapped back to his senses and roared, "You of the Li Clan have gone too far! I'm telling you, we won't pay a single cent of the project funds! As for the Qingtian International project, forget about it! I won't even grant you the qualifications to bid!"

He had originally been close to Huang Biehe, but after the Huang Family fire, he had gotten in touch with Lu Dian and his associates. He held a stake in the new company they had invested in and was determined to help it win the bid, no matter the cost.

Chen Dong ignored Zhuang Zhongjia's bellows. Instead, right in front of him, he dialed a number and put the call on speaker.

The call connected quickly, and Chen Dong began warmly, "Grandmaster Zhao, how has your health been lately?"

Zhao Wenxuan's laughter came through the phone. "Haha! You rascal, you finally remembered to call me! As for my health, it's excellent!"

The voice sounded incredibly familiar to Zhuang Zhongjia, but he couldn't believe it. 'There's no way this punk has Zhao Wenxuan's number,' he thought, 'let alone such a good relationship with him.'

Chen Dong continued, "Actually, I'm calling because there's something I need to talk to you about."

"I knew it! You wouldn't think of me unless you needed something, you rascal!" Zhao Wenxuan chided with a laugh.

"Does the Zhao Family have a managing secretary in Jiangzhou named Zhuang Zhongjia?" Chen Dong asked.

"Yes, there is," Zhao Wenxuan replied after a moment's thought.

Hearing this, Zhuang Zhongjia confirmed that it was indeed Zhao Wenxuan on the line, but so what if it was? He didn't believe a few words of complaint from Chen Dong could threaten his position.

But then he heard Chen Dong say bluntly, "Can you fire him? I can't stand the man."

Zhao Wenxuan replied from the other end, "To be honest, we were already planning to transfer him to an idle post. But since you've put it that way, I'll arrange for it to be done immediately!"

When Zhuang Zhongjia heard this, his face went deathly pale. A single thought echoed in his mind: 'This can't be real! It can't be real!'

His face twisted as he roared at Chen Dong, "Who are you trying to fool? You think any call from a vaguely similar voice is Zhao Wenxuan? You can't trick me!"

With that, he lunged to snatch Chen Dong's phone, screaming into it, "You're a fraud! A fraud! You're not Zhao Wenxuan!"

Zhao Wenxuan, on the other end, heard the chaotic shouting. Worldly-wise, he quickly deduced what was happening, hung up, and immediately instructed Zhao Zhitong to handle Zhuang Zhongjia's dismissal.

How could an old man like Zhuang Zhongjia possibly snatch the phone from Chen Dong? He was shoved to the ground with a single push.

Just then, Zhuang Zhongjia's own phone rang. The call was from none other than Zhao Wenxuan's executive secretary, Zhao Zhitong.

Normally, he would have been overjoyed to receive a call from Zhao Zhitong, whose rank was so high that Zhuang Zhongjia couldn't even dream of currying favor with him.

But now, the call was like a death knell. He was terrified, trembling so badly he couldn't bring himself to press the answer key.

After a long moment, the ringing stopped. He let out a breath, thinking he'd escaped his fate. But the phone immediately began to ring again. He clenched the device, slammed the answer button, and clung to a sliver of hope that this wasn't the call telling him he was fired.

The moment the call connected, Zhao Zhitong's stern voice came through. "Secretary Zhuang, Mr. Zhao has personally ordered your dismissal!"

Zhuang Zhongjia frantically shouted, "No, no! You must be mistaken! Why would Second Master Zhao listen to some worthless punk...?"

Zhao Zhitong cut him off. "It's best you don't pry into things you're not meant to know! I am simply informing you that you have been dismissed!" With that, he hung up.

Zhuang Zhongjia stared at his phone, his eyes lifeless, as the dial tone droned on.

A soft chuckle from Chen Dong snapped him out of it. He scrambled over and clung to Chen Dong's leg, wailing, "I'll pay! I'll pay the Li Clan's money! The project funds, the material costs, I'll pay it all! Just get the Zhao Family to not fire me! I'll give you anything!"

If he lost his position as the Zhao Family's managing secretary, he would be nothing. Lu Dian and the others would kick him to the curb, and the people who used to fawn over him would vanish. For a man who cared so immensely for power and prestige, he would be left with nothing.

Chen Dong said calmly, "Wouldn't it have been easier if you'd done this from the start?" He then tossed the invoice onto the ground. "Time to pay up."

Zhuang Zhongjia scrambled to pick up the invoice and asked again, "If I pay, you'll talk to Second Master Zhao? You'll ask him not to fire me?"

Chen Dong gave a slight nod.

Zhuang Zhongjia hurriedly transferred the money to the Li Group's account. It was probably the fastest he had ever sent a payment in his life.

Chen Dong tilted his head. "There's still their money."

Seeing their chance, Liu Qi, Martial Hero, and the others indignantly presented their own invoices.

At that moment, Zhuang Zhongjia wished he could grow two more hands as he scrambled to transfer the money.

It seemed this secretary position of his was quite lucrative; a sum of nearly thirty million was transferred in just a few moments.

Once the money was received, Chen Dong turned and walked away.

Zhuang Zhongjia hurriedly grabbed Chen Dong. "You said you'd speak to Second Master Zhao for me!"

Chen Dong's entire demeanor shifted. He adopted a perfectly imperious and arrogant air, his status now seemingly as high as Director Zhuang's had once been. "I'll get around to it," he said dismissively. "You just wait."
