Chapter 109: Encountering Liu Qi Again
The man fought desperately, but none of his companions came to his aid. The thugs who had come to trash the clinic were now completely surrounded.
"Get lost! We all know Dr. Jiang was framed!"
"For a specialist with her skill and integrity to be fired... that's First Hospital's loss, not hers!"
"Accepting bribes? Don't make me laugh! When my wife had surgery, I personally offered her 100,000 yuan, and Dr. Jiang refused to take it!"
"Just 100,000? I tried to secretly slip her a card with 880,000 yuan on it, and Dr. Jiang gave it right back!"
"Exactly! Dr. Jiang prescribed us medicine that the hospital doesn't get a commission on, and they call *that* 'abusing medication'? It makes this old woman's blood boil! Throw these ingrates out!"
"Yeah! Throw them out!"
Chen Dong watched the impassioned crowd. 'Even if I hadn't stepped in, it looks like Jiang Yao would have been fine,' he thought. This was the first he'd heard about her being fired, though. 'So that's why a top hospital specialist would leave to open her own clinic.'
Chen Dong also suspected her dismissal was connected to the day they saved Li Qinghe and Xia Yi. Their original attending physician was that Dr. Zhong, but he was nowhere to be seen during the emergency treatment. Later, when Chen Dong did see Dr. Zhong, the man's expression was so venomous it was as if he believed Li Qinghe and Xia Yi should have died. 'Jiang Yao must have had a serious conflict with him.'
Chen Dong casually asked a young nurse standing nearby, "What's this about Dr. Jiang being fired?"
The nurse replied, filled with righteous anger, "She was framed! That Director Zhong is despicable. He forged evidence to frame Dr. Jiang and get her fired! I used to be a nurse at First Hospital too, but I couldn't stand it anymore, so I left to work with Dr. Jiang. My friend who left with me, Xiaohong, is the one you should really feel sorry for. She was in the ER and was constantly harassed by Director Zhong until she had no choice but to resign."
Chen Dong nodded silently.
Jiang Yao walked over to thank him. "Mr. Chen, thank you for your help just now." She could tell that the hysterical woman's sudden confession was his doing.
Chen Dong said coolly, "Don't mention it. Your clinic would have been fine even without me."
Just then, a man wrapped in bandages with his arm in a cast strode forward and knelt before Jiang Yao. He pleaded with solemn urgency, "Dr. Jiang, I'm begging you, please save my son!"
Chen Dong's eyes narrowed. He recognized this man. From his exposed, bronze-colored skin and his resolute eyes, he could tell it was none other than Liu Qi, the materials king of Jiangzhou.
Jiang Yao quickly helped Liu Qi to his feet. "Please, get up. Where is your son?"
Liu Qi said hastily, "He's still at First Hospital."
Liu Qi had taken his son to First Hospital specifically for Dr. Jiang, only to find out she was no longer there. After asking around for what felt like half the day, he learned that she had opened her own clinic and rushed over immediately.
Jiang Yao shook her head with a helpless expression. "I've been fired from First Hospital."
"I know, but I'm still begging you to save my son, Dr. Jiang. The doctors at the hospital are useless; they can't do anything! If there's anyone left in Jiangzhou who can save my son, it's you!" As he spoke, tears streamed from the grown man's eyes, and he fell to his knees before Jiang Yao once more.
Jiang Yao let out a breath and made her decision. Helping Liu Qi up, she said, "Alright."
Chen Dong spoke up calmly, "I'll go instead. It's your clinic's grand opening today; you shouldn't leave."
Jiang Yao's face lit up with surprise and delight. "If you're willing to help, Mr. Chen, that would be for the best!"
Liu Qi looked horrified. "Dr. Jiang, this is no time for jokes! I know Chen Dong. He's just an employee at the Li Group. Is he really capable?"
Jiang Yao's expression turned serious. "If even Chen Dong can't save your son, then no one in Jiangzhou can, and that includes me! His medical skills are far superior to mine. If he's willing to help, your son will definitely be alright!"
Liu Qi's face was full of disbelief. "I still have to ask you to do it, Dr. Jiang."
Chen Dong didn't say a word. He grabbed Liu Qi's arm, crushed the cast on his hand with a single squeeze, and inserted five Silver Needles into the hand, which was swollen like a bear's paw.
At first, some pus and blood flowed out along the Silver Needles. Then, Chen Dong inserted nine more needles, gave Liu Qi's arm a sharp tug, and withdrew them all one by one.
Liu Qi's eyes went wide. He felt that his fractured hand was as good as new. He flexed it a few times, confirming that it had truly healed.
'There's a saying: a hundred days to heal sinew and bone,' he thought, utterly stunned. 'But this took less than two minutes.' Now he was absolutely certain that Jiang Yao was right: if Chen Dong couldn't save his son, then no one in Jiangzhou could.
Chen Dong cut through Liu Qi's shock, saying coolly, "Let's go."
Chen Dong gave some instructions to the security guards and motorcade that had come with him, then he and Liu Qi rushed to First Hospital.
Liu Qi was a lucky man. On the day the Sun Family fell, he managed to escape in the chaos. Once he learned of the family's downfall, he gathered a group of his men and prepared to storm the Sun Family's drug-testing facility, but by the time he got there, the place was already a ruin.
Liu Qi searched the ruins for days but found nothing. Just when he had given up hope of ever seeing his son again, the boy returned home on his own, but his body was completely broken down.
The moment he saw Liu Qi, he managed to call out "Dad" before collapsing. He had been unconscious ever since.
In a private, deluxe room at First Hospital, Chen Dong saw Liu Qi's son. He was a boy of thirteen or fourteen, deathly pale and lying unconscious on the hospital bed.
Chen Dong could tell at a glance that the boy had lived for years in a place with no sunlight. He was malnourished and had been ravaged by all sorts of toxins, his body corroded to a breaking point. On top of that, he had traveled a long way while starving and freezing. Now, he was like a lamp with no more oil, his life hanging by a thread.
Chen Dong observed him for a long moment before saying calmly, "This is a bit tricky."
