The Master and His Wealthy Fiancée

Chapter 89: Auctioning the Ancient Sword

With Chen Dong's discerning eye, he saw in a single glance that this item—the Inner Power Clayman and its box included—was completely useless. If someone could actually cultivate True Qi by following it, then ghosts were real.

After a brief introduction, Master Zhang announced, "The starting bid for the Mud Man Heart Technique figurine is ten million, and each increment must be at least one million."

Master Zhang looked at the Inner Power Clayman with a sense of helplessness. The price had been set by that Grandmaster, and he was already prepared for the item to fail to sell.

But who would have thought that the moment he finished speaking, Chen Dong would stand up and shout, "Eleven million! I hope everyone can do me a favor and not bid against me. This is the Inner Power Heart Technique I've been dreaming of. With it, I'm certain to become a Grandmaster!" His expression was grim, his aura imposing.

But who were the people in attendance? They were all from the elite families of Qianzhou, and the few outsiders were tycoons worth hundreds of millions. It might have been fine if Chen Dong had said nothing, but his declaration drew every eye in the room to him.

They had little impression of this Chen Dong, who had only bid once before on the Star Luo Fruit.

"Who is this guy? The nerve of him, asking us to back down!"

"I don't know him, but he's putting on quite an act. I can't stand it. A few tens of millions is pocket change; I'll crush him with it."

"Dressed in cheap clothes and asking us for respect? Who does he think he is? I'm going to bid him into the ground!"

Instantly, the auction floor erupted.

"Twelve million!"

"Thirteen million!" Chen Dong immediately countered, refusing to back down, his expression ferocious.

"Eighteen million!"

"Nineteen million!" Chen Dong called out.

"..."

"Thirty million!"

"Thirty-one million!" Chen Dong persisted...

The price quickly surpassed fifty million.

"Fifty-five million!" Chen Dong yelled, his face dark.

At this point, no one else was bidding. Who would spend over fifty million on an item of questionable use?

Even the man who had been targeting Chen Dong from the start began to have second thoughts. At this price, it was no longer worth it to keep antagonizing him.

Master Zhang began the countdown, "Fifty-five million, going once!"

Chen Dong laughed. "HA HA, it's finally mine! You, with the mustache, just you wait! Once I master this divine technique, I will have my revenge!" As he spoke, Chen Dong pointed at the man who had been targeting him.

The man did, in fact, have a mustache.

The man froze. 'What? He's going to practice this technique just to get revenge on me???'

'What if he actually manages to master it?' he thought. And so, he decisively shouted, "Sixty million!"

Chen Dong immediately countered, "Sixty-one million! The Inner Power Clayman is mine, little mustache!"

The man, feeling both provoked and threatened, shouted again, "Seventy million!"

Chen Dong glanced at the man's face and said breezily, "You know what? I don't want it anymore."

The man was stunned. 'Seventy million for some worthless clay figurine I know nothing about!' He had just decided he wasn't going to bid any higher. 'It's one thing whether the technique can even be mastered, but so what if it is? Would that kid really dare to do anything to me?'

The man had only bid in a fit of pique after being taunted, and he had been planning to drop out if Chen Dong raised the price again. But in the end, it was as if Chen Dong had read his mind and simply pulled out.

He was left completely dumbfounded.

With the bang of Master Zhang's gavel, he announced, "Seventy million, going for the third time... and sold! Congratulations to bidder number two hundred thirty-three for winning the mysterious Inner Power Clayman set for a price of seventy million!"

Chen Dong sat down, shaking his head slightly. 'My acting is still too poor,' he thought. 'The man came to his senses too quickly. I only managed to squeeze seventy million out of him.'

As one auction item after another was brought on stage, the auction began to wind down. A few more precious medicinal herbs came up for bidding, but they were of no great use. Qin Yun reflected that the chances of finding herbs at an auction that could help her father were too low. 'It would be better to seek them out specifically.'

Just then, a commotion stirred at the entrance of the auction hall. A new group of people had arrived, chatting among themselves.

The people already at the auction were stunned when they saw the newcomers. Without exception, they were the true titans of Qianzhou—the kind of people who could make the entire city shake with a single move.

"Glad we made it in time!"

"Exactly! I have no idea what's going on either. Old Ghost Zhang just said there was some treasure and told me to rush over to take a look!"

"Me too!"

"Heh! Well, I got a little inside information. I hear it's a Divine Artifact!"

The people nearby all gasped. "What? It's really a Divine Artifact!"

"Damn it, a Divine Artifact! Why didn't you say so sooner? I didn't bring enough funds!" one of the tycoons exclaimed in regret.

His regret was met with a round of derisive laughter.

After the final scheduled item was sold, Master Zhang announced loudly, "Our auction has one final item, a true grand finale among finales! It is an object of immense value that only arrived at our auction house today! At the seller's request, we will be auctioning it now. Enough talk from me. Let's bring this item to the stage so everyone can see it with their own eyes!"

As he spoke, two staff members walked in, carrying a stand covered by a red cloth. They placed it carefully on the stage.

Master Zhang took hold of the red cloth and whipped it away. Everyone in the audience stared, their eyes wide with astonishment.

An ancient sword lay horizontally on the stand. Inscriptions were cast into its hilt, its guard was engraved with an exotic flower, and its blade was three fingers wide and over three feet long, with strange, recessed sigils etched upon its surface.

Most importantly, a divine aura seemed to flow across its surface.

"It's truly a Divine Artifact!" someone exclaimed in utter disbelief.

Qin Yun's eyes were wide with disbelief. 'Is that the sword Chen Dong was carrying earlier, wrapped in cloth? How could it cause such a stir? What's so special about it?'

Master Zhang let out a wry chuckle. "According to its owner, the wondrous power of this Divine Artifact is... life." Saying this, he picked up the ancient sword and circulated his True Qi through it. A rabbit, prepared in advance, was brought onto the stage.

He pointed the tip of the sword at the rabbit, and it began to age visibly before their very eyes.

The entire audience was stunned, erupting into a clamorous uproar!
