Chapter 134: Wheel
After delivering the stabilization agents, she finally returned to the master bedroom.
She sat down and opened the holographic system screen.
The moment she saw the newly unlocked feature, her eyes widened.
’What is this?’
A colorful wheel appeared on the screen.
A notification slowly emerged beneath it.
[Hidden Feature Unlocked: Daily Wheel. The host may spin the wheel once every day.]
Ni Mengxue stared at the screen. ’Every day?’
For the first time in a week, she felt that all her hard work had been worth it.
The wheel contained several possible rewards.
There was a buff that could last for the next twenty-four hours, a question-mark option, and several discounts for items in the system store: 1% off, 10% off, and even 50% off.
The final option was different. It was deep red and simply said:
[Surprise]
Ni Mengxue didn’t know what the surprise meant, but she had a feeling it wouldn’t be bad.
’Even a 50% discount would be amazing.’
She clicked on the daily check-in option, only to receive another notification.
[Today’s check-in requirement: Kiss your husband, Ji Henghua.]
Ni Mengxue froze.
’What?’
Ji Henghua wasn’t even there.
She suddenly realized that the check-in requirements might not always be convenient.
If the system randomly assigned a condition that didn’t match her current circumstances, she wouldn’t be able to complete it immediately.
Just as she was thinking about this, the door opened.
Lu Yucai walked inside.
His walking had improved considerably. All the other subordinates had long since left, so he didn’t need to pretend that he was still struggling to walk.
Instead of sitting down, he walked straight toward Ni Mengxue. "You must be tired."
Ni Mengxue smiled. "Yes, I am. I’m feeling a little sleepy, too."
"Then sleep."
Lu Yucai gently led her toward the bedroom.
Ni Mengxue was stunned by his sudden change.
For some reason, she felt as though something about Lu Yucai had changed, but she couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
She subconsciously tightened her grip on his hand.
Lu Yucai noticed and froze for a moment before smiling instinctively and gently patting the back of her hand.
Ni Mengxue didn’t let go.
Instead, she suddenly said, "Sleep with me. I have trouble sleeping alone."
Lu Yucai stared at her for several seconds before nodding. "All right."
He lay down beside her and held her tightly.
Ni Mengxue soon fell asleep.
When Lu Yucai heard her breathing settle into a steady rhythm, he carefully tried to move away.
But Ni Mengxue immediately tightened her arms around him.
Lu Yucai stopped moving. He remained there, staring silently at the ceiling.
The reason he had suddenly become much calmer and quieter was because Valer and Fu Lin had secretly met with him several days ago.
He lowered his gaze toward his sleeping wife.
’I’ve made her worry so much that even the slightest change in me scares her.’
A bitter feeling filled his heart and he closed his eyes.
Four days earlier...
Lu Yucai had been sitting on the bed, taking a deep breath after practicing walking, when a familiar voice suddenly reached him.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Ruo Chiwu sitting in front of him.
She smiled. "Still trying?"
Lu Yucai looked away.
Ruo Chiwu’s expression remained calm.
"Youcai, if I were in your place, I would pick up a knife and use it to end my life. It’s not that difficult. There are only a few steps to the kitchen, and there must be a knife there. Borrow it. Kill yourself. Show some remorse."
Lu Yucai stared at her. "I will. But now isn’t the right time. They’re watching me."
Ruo Chiwu paused. "You’re lying. You’re looking for a reason to survive."
Lu Yucai shook his head. "I’m not."
Ruo Chiwu suddenly laughed.
"Do you really think you can hide your true thoughts from yourself? You’re simply buying yourself more time."
Lu Yucai lowered his gaze. "Give me one week. I’ll do it."
Ruo Chiwu fell silent, seemingly satisfied with his answer.
The door, which he had deliberately left slightly open, was suddenly pushed open.
Valer and Fu Lin walked inside.
Fu Lin stared at Lu Yucai with guilt in his eyes.
The next second, he knelt in front of him. "Brother, please don’t kill yourself."
He immediately began sobbing.
Lu Yucai was stunned. He subconsciously looked toward where Ruo Chiwu had been sitting.
There was no one there. His heart turned cold.
Only then did he realize that he had been speaking to an illusion born from his own mind.
Yet his words had revealed something he hadn’t wanted to admit.
Some part of him had never truly given up on living.
Valer looked at him solemnly. "It seems you deserve to know the truth. Our wife isn’t dead."
The moment those words were spoken, Lu Yucai felt as if his entire world had collapsed.
"What are you saying?"
He stared at Valer in disbelief.
"Just because you want to comfort me, you shouldn’t lie. Was it Ni Mengxue who asked you to say this? Don’t worry. I’m fine."
Valer shook his head and grabbed Lu Yucai’s hand.
"Just believe us. We’re not lying. She’s alive. But because of certain circumstances, she can’t come back right now."
Lu Yucai suddenly became agitated.
"So all of you were involved? You faked Ruo Chiwu’s death? Why? What is going on?"
His voice grew colder.
"If you don’t tell me, I’ll tell everything to Ni Mengxue. How dare you deceive my wife? Do you even know how much she..."
He stopped abruptly. His chest tightened with anger.
Valer lowered his gaze before finally speaking.
"Because if Ruo Chiwu had remained here, Ni Mengxue would have been in danger."
Lu Yucai froze.
"Remember this. Your wife possesses something precious, but that very thing can also put her in danger. If you want to see her die, then continue investigating Ruo Chiwu’s death."
Valer’s expression became solemn.
"But if you don’t want that, then forget about it for now. Believe that Aunt Ruo is dead."
Fu Lin nodded and held Lu Yucai’s hand.
Lu Yucai remained stunned.
He kept pressing them for the truth, refusing to accept their explanation about the fake death.
But neither Valer nor Fu Lin told him everything.
