Chapter 46- Seong
Seong was the main protagonist of the fifth story arc in Heavenly Illusions, that Xai Lin had read in her past life.
Just from the title of his story arc, “The Immortal Nomad” one could gain a general grasp of what this arc was about.
Seong and his older half-brother by six years were orphans who grew up relying on each other in a Mortal Realm. But by a stroke of luck, a cultivator in the Soul Emergence Realm, who was on a sightseeing journey after realizing he could no longer progress and was at the end of his lifespan, met the brothers, and found out that the older brother had the bloodline of a Divine Phoenix while having Heaven-grade aptitude. Meaning, he was of the Yao Race.
So, that cultivator decided to take on the brothers as disciples and he taught them everything he knew for five years in that Mortal Realm, before dying when his lifespan came to an end.
Seong was only three years old when this cultivator found them, while his older brother, Yoon-Jae, was nine years old.
After five years of companionship and then sending off their master, who had become like a father to them, they decided to leave the Mortal Realms using a teleportation token and travel to a larger realm where there were cultivators.
That teleportation token was a rare bound teleportation token that could teleport one to a specific place. And the place the brothers were teleported to was the Han Clan where that Soul Emergence Realm cultivator had come from.
After finding out that they were disciples of their Clan’s Grand Elder, the Han Clan welcome them with open arms, especially after finding out that Yoon-Jae had Heaven-grade aptitude.
As for his identity as a Yao Beast with half the bloodline of a Divine Pheonix, the brothers kept their mouths shut, as their master had warn them that despite Humans and Yao Beasts living together, there were still a few unscrupulous people among human cultivators who would target Yao Beasts for their bloodlines, no matter how miniscule it was.
So, Seong and his older brother grew up in the Han Clan enjoying their care and resources. However, all of that change two years later when Yoon-Jae was inexplicably killed during an outing to hunt Demonic Beasts.
After that, the Han Clan’s attitude towards Seong became inexplicable. First they moved him to an isolated courtyard withing their clan, then they claim his brother had gone against their master by cultivating some Demonic Art and became a Demonic Cultivator, so they stripped him of his identity as the Grand Elder’s disciple and demoted him to a servant.
Following that was Seong being tormented mentally, while constantly being berated as a good-for-nothing, who had an older brother who brought disgrace to their Han Clan.
Being an eleven-year-old, who had grown up under the care of his master and older brother, when had he ever suffer such torment? Even though he was never physically beaten, being forced to do chores to the point of exhaustion everyday while being berated constantly, would drive even an adult to brink mental collapse.
On top of all this, his room would be broken into on random nights by people who were searching for a so-called Demonic Art that his brother had supposedly left him.
As for Seong leaving, the Han Clan wouldn’t even let him leave the back courtyards of their Clan when doing chores, much less let him leave the Clan.
So, it was under these circumstances that Seong lived for two and a half years. That was until his bloodline ability was awakened.
That’s right, as it turns out, Seong was also of the Yao Race, and he had the bloodline of a rather rare Divine Beast, the Void Beast.
In the past, Void Beasts were known for their ability to traverse space undetected. Perhaps it was Seong’s pathological desire to escape that allowed him to awaken this very ability. And with it, he managed to snuck out of the Han Clan.
After that, the arc told the story of typical protagonist who went through struggle after struggle, before finally standing at the pinnacle of the cultivation world. And of course, it had him returning to the Han Clan to seek revenge and investigate the death of his older brother. However, that was a long time ago, and all the evidence had been washed away in the river of time.
It wasn’t until the story was reaching its end, that a twist so gut-wrenching occurred, which resulted in Xai Lin having to put the book down. That was the first time she had put the book on hold, and it was also the start of her trauma, while reading the subsequent story arcs.
As for what that twist was... it was related to Seong’s older brother’s death.
Thinking this, the description of a person flashed in Xai Lin’s mind, and quickly killing intent couldn’t help rising from the depths of her heart and condense in her eyes, which resulted in her blue pupils giving off a cold chill if one stared at them.
How many people have read stories and hated a character so much that they wished they could jump into the screen or book to personally strangle them?
The fact that Xai Lin had this unique opportunity, she didn’t know whether to be excited or nervous.
Excited because she has the chance to change a tragedy, and nervous because she worried she might not be able to in the end.
“Xai-xai, what’s wrong?”
An Mo keenly sensed Xai Lin’s change in emotions and couldn’t help but lift this head and asked with a worried expression.
Seeing An Mo’s worry, Xai Lin forcefully suppressed her killing intent and said while putting away that jade token.
“I just recalled some unpleasant memories. I’m fine, don’t worry.”
An Mo stared at Xai Lin silently, the worry in his eyes not lessening by a fraction.
Upon seeing this, Xai Lin gave a helpless smile, before lifting her hand to rub An Mo’s messy bed hair.
“It’s just that I have to meet someone who is going to experience some bad things, and I’m worrying about how to help them.”
An Mo blinked.
“Oh.”
An Mo didn’t ask who that person was, or why Xai Lin had to help this person, instead he just smiled and said.
“Xai-xai, if you’re so troubled by this matter then remember you have a Dao Companion. After all, I’ll never say no if you ask for my help.”
Xai Lin returned An Mo’s smile.
“Alright An Mo, I know. If I need your help, of course, I’ll ask you.”
“Mhm!”
An Mo hummed, then suddenly added.
“That also means, you can’t refuse me when I ask something of you!”
After saying that An Mo went back to burying his head in the crook of Xai Lin’s neck.
Xai Lin couldn’t help but rolled her eyes at An Mo’s words.
After thinking for a moment, Xai Lin finally recalled the timeline of Seong’s story arc.
In Heavenly Illusions she read in her past life, the timeline for the story arcs were extremely scattered. Some occurred simultaneously with each other, while others were one after each other, or even several years apart.
The story arc where she was in, which was named “The Myriad Divine Beast Immortal” was actually the first installment, with Sikong’s story arc “The Strongest Beast Tamer” being the second.
As for the third installment, Xai Lin was unable to get involved in it because it occurred at the same time as Sikong’s story arc, and after much contemplation, she figured the Chaos Tower was better suited for her, who already had the Heaven and Earth Refinement Scripture, than another Immortal-grade cultivation technique.
Though Xai Lin did feel regret in not going to see the cast for that story arc since it had one of her favorite characters in the entire series. As for what the story arc was called, it was “The Adventures of the Namgung Clan’s Second Young Master”.
After working out the timeline, Xai Lin called out to the empty air.
“Little Bai...”
Soon after, a ball of white light began to materialize in the air above the bed.
