Heavenly Illusions

Chapter 19- A Weak and Pitiful Apology

“Who!?”

Bai Nou’s eyes snapped open, and a terrifying aura erupted from his large frame. He coldly swept a glance at his feet, however, what came into his view was his protruding stomach.

Bai Nou:...

With a thought, Bai Nou’s Divine Soul spread outward. Within a hundred meters of him nothing could escaped his perception.

Just as his Divine Soul spread out, he felt a presence slipped out of the range of his Divine Soul. They reacted extremely fast.

Bai Nou snorted coldly and increased the range of his Divine Soul, while at the same time, the Spiritual Qi in the area started to become chaotic.

Upon seeing this scene, An Mo forgot about finding out his origins and dashed in Xai Lin’s direction.

Even though Xai Lin had reacted extremely quickly after collecting a drop of blood from Bai Nou, there was no way she could outrun the perception of a Rank 4 Spirit Beasts that was equivalent to a human cultivator at the Soul Emergence Realm!

The Divine Soul quickly caught up to Xai Lin and like a large pair of hands, tightly gripped her body, freezing her in place. At the same time her soul was affected, and she could no longer maintain her snake transformation, and reverted to her human appearance.

“*Snort*... A human dares trespass into the Demonic Realm? Speak! What is your purpose in coming here, and why did you take a drop of my blood?”

Bai Nou’s voice thundered in the void via his Divine Soul.

In the next second, Xai Lin felt the surrounding chaotic Spiritual Qi swarm over towards her, and her eyebrow twitched upon seeing this.

This Bai Nou wasn’t even giving her chance to speak.

If this level of pure Spiritual Qi suppression landed on her without any protection, she would undoubtedly be crushed into a bloody mess.

However, Xai Lin did not panic.

Just as the chaotic Spiritual Qi was about to obliterate Xai Lin, An Mo’s panicked voice rang out.

“Big Brother Bai Nou, don’t kill her! She’s my friend!!”

Just as his voice fell, his figure dashed in front of Xai Lin. He wrapped his arms around her and used his body to shield her from the chaotic Spiritual Qi.

Bai Nou’s pupils constricted for a third time upon seeing this, and he immediately retracted his Divine Soul. At the same time, he tried to smooth out the chaotic Spiritual Qi that was rushing over. However, only a portion was dispelled, while the rest fell squarely on An Mo’s back.

Thankfully, golden runes lit up on the tortoise shell in his clothes and blocked the chaotic Spiritual Qi. But Bai Nou wasn’t so lucky. Immediately after injuring An Mo, that mysterious power reappeared, this time it seemed enraged as it slammed into his cultivation foundation and Divine Soul repeatedly.

While releasing muffled groans, Bai Nou watch all of this happened in horror.

Only after both his cultivation foundation and Divine Soul were severely damaged did this mysterious force look around in what seemed like a satisfied manner before it turned and left with a huff.

Bai Nou breathed a sigh of relief after it left, but upon sensing that his cultivation had dropped a major realm and calculating that his injuries would take nearly a thousand years to recovered, he directly cough up the mouthful of blood he had been holding back before fainting.

While his consciousness was turning black, he continuously cursed An Mo as a Devil Child and a demon spawn that was specifically sent to torment him.

An Mo and Xai Lin were safe, but due to the force the two were still sent flying several meters away.

An Mo kept his arms wrapped around Xai Lin the entire time.

After they rolled to a stop in the grass, An Mo quickly looked down to check on Xai Lin.

“Are you okay?”

Xai Lin pressed her palms against An Mo’s chest and sucked in a breath of fresh air but then started coughing.

An Mo had been holding her so tight, she could hardly breathe.

“S-Sorry, sorry.”

An Mo quickly apologized and scrambled to pull Xai Lin into a sitting position and pat her back to help her regulate her breathing.

“I-I’m fine. I think nearly being suffocated to death is better than being obliterated... cough, cough...”

Upon hearing this, An Mo released a sigh of relief and said with lingering fear.

“That was too dangerous. I almost didn’t make it in time.”

Their initial plan was that after Xai Lin got Bai Nou’s drop of blood, An Mo would use his Divine Black Tortoise’s ability as well as his identity to shield Xai Lin while escaping. However, An Mo had been too distracted while asking Bai Nou about his origins and almost missed the timing to help Xai Lin.

Even now, An Mo couldn’t help but feel a cold chill crawling up his spine and numbing his skull. If something had happened to Xai Lin, he felt like he would have been unable to live with himself—causing his first and only friend to die while helping him, he would have eventually decided to accompany her if he had to live with that burden while still being trapped in this place.

After recovering, Xai Lin glanced at An Mo and saw his panic at a glance. Reaching out, she ruffled his orange fur on top of his head while saying.

“Are you looking down on me? I would have been fine even if you hadn’t stepped in.”

An Mo looked at Xai Lin and saw that she was smiling at him. He sighed in his heart.

“Hm...”

Thankfully, nothing happened.

An Mo instinctively leaned into Xai Lin palm which was stroking his head. However, that gentle stroke suddenly turned into an intense tug.

“Ah!”

An Mo couldn’t help but cry out in pain and hurriedly open his eyes.

“Xai Lin, you—”

An Mo wanted to tearfully complain, but what met his eyes was Xai Lin clutching a hand full of his orange fur while staring at him with a gloomy expression.

It was only then did he remembered that he was in his Divine Monkey form.

He quickly shrank his neck and wore an aggrieved expression.

“Xai Lin—No, Xaixai, I can explain.”

Even though An Mo had decided to tell Xai Lin about his other Divine Beast bloodlines, and had purposedly reveal this form to her, he was still a bit nervous, especially when he saw her with such a frightening expression.

Xai Lin remained unmoved by An Mo’s aggrieved expression and even the sudden intimate nickname. She glared at him and asked coldly.

“How many Divine Beast bloodline do you actually have?”

An Mo swallowed nervously, but still honestly answered.

“I have four.”

His voice was barely above a whisper.

Xai Lin heard him, and she quickly closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm down. She was afraid if she didn’t, she might beat this brat to death.

Upon seeing Xai Lin’s reaction, instead of moving away, An Mo scooted closer before reaching out to pinch a corner of Xai Lin’s robes. He then said in a coaxing tone.

“Xaixai, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I won’t do it again, okay? I’m sorry, so please forgive me.”

An Mo leaned forward and rubbed his forehead against Xai Lin’s shoulder; acting extremely weak and pitiful.
