Chapter 153 - 127: Sky-Breaking Saber Advances
In the main hall on the first floor of the Spirit Treasure Pavilion, Zhao Zuo stored the two items in his Storage Bag.
He had originally planned to purchase the Spiritual Objects needed to upgrade his Huayang Bead. For some reason, however, he always felt a sense of danger when facing Zhou Wushuang. It was like being targeted by a terrifying creature, putting his instincts on high alert.
Yet, the Zhou Wushuang before him still had a completely harmless appearance. Zhao Zuo bowed in thanks and promptly left.
Zhao Zuo sensed a bloodthirsty, teeth-gnashing beast lurking beneath Zhou Wushuang’s harmless facade.
After some thought, Zhao Zuo decided to visit a few other shops in the area to gather the items needed for the Huayang Bead’s upgrade. He ended up spending a few extra Spirit Stones, but at least his safety was guaranteed.
Upon returning home, Zhao Zuo began his Cultivation of the Soul-Forging Technique. The first level of this technique required a total of four hundred revolutions, and each revolution consisted of one thousand hammer strikes. At his current soul strength, he could manage about two hundred strikes per day.
That meant one revolution every five days, and Perfection in six years.
Although Zhao Zuo’s soul could be strengthened by acquiring Creation Points, reaching Perfection in the first level still seemed a distant prospect.
In the courtyard, Shen Yunjiao was practicing her Swordsmanship. Her Body Technique was elegant, and her speed had improved yet again.
Zhao Zuo sat on a stone chair and recounted what he had seen and heard at the Moyun Workshop.
"I suspect there’s more than one Demon Path Cultivator who has infiltrated the city. Otherwise, the atmosphere in the Moyun Workshop wouldn’t be so oppressive. You still need to be careful for the time being."
"All right, I know," Shen Yunjiao replied.
Zhao Zuo wasn’t sure if she had truly taken his words to heart, but he didn’t press the issue. Instead, he began practicing how to draw the Heavy Mountain Spirit Pattern at the stone table. This Spirit Pattern increased the hardness of a Magical Artifact, but it could only be used on Defensive Magical Artifacts, which limited its utility.
However, it was one of the essential Spirit Patterns for the Upper Grade Magical Artifact, the Cyan Mountain Shield.
’I have no choice but to learn it.’
After studying for a two-hour period, Zhao Zuo set down the Artifact Refining Secret Record, a look of awe on his face. Every time he read it, he learned something new and useful.
Zhao Zuo took out a Scroll and began to record his insights.
He wrote to identify and fill any gaps in his understanding, and also to reinforce his memory. If he ever got the chance, he could even compile his Artifact Refining notes into a book to sell. He might even earn a good amount of Spirit Stones from it.
After he finished recording his insights, Zhao Zuo closed his eyes.
Deep within his mind, he visualized a great golden hammer falling toward his Sea of Souls. Silver waves surged and receded, the massive swells threatening to scour the entire Soul Space clean once more.
THUD THUD THUD.
With each strike, the Sea of Souls trembled slightly, its overall structure growing a fraction more resilient. Over time, this would enhance his soul’s Defense Power and overall strength.
About half an hour later, Zhao Zuo completed his daily tempering and opened his eyes again.
Next, Zhao Zuo took out a Vajra Pill and began cultivating the Golden Body Technique. The concentration of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power here wasn’t as high as it was up the mountain at the Moyun Sect, so he opted for a Body Refining Technique that didn’t demand much Spiritual Power.
Time passed in a blur.
As evening approached, Shen Yunjiao changed into night-prowling attire and left the courtyard to search for her target.
Seeing this, Zhao Zuo returned to his bedroom and laid out the items for upgrading his Sky-Breaking Saber on the bed.
[Level: Middle Grade Magical Artifact +3 · Sky-Breaking Saber]
[Experience: 10000/12990]
[Status: Upgradeable]
Without hesitation, Zhao Zuo tapped ’Upgrade’.
The next moment, a familiar gray light spread out. The Wind Shadow Steel instantly shattered, dissolving into minuscule particles. They swirled like a cyan ribbon around the body of the Sky-Breaking Saber, yet also resembled a wisp of cyan smoke that might dissipate at any moment.
This cyan smoke seemed to exist on the boundary between the illusory and the real, completely intangible.
It enveloped the Sky-Breaking Saber like a galaxy, a cyan night sky where specks of light emerged like meteors. They continuously merged into the saber’s interior, and the surrounding cyan smoke began to dim, losing its luster.
As time passed, more and more points of light merged into the blade, and the cyan smoke grew increasingly thin. But then, the smoke began to converge, and three bright streaks coalesced deep within it. They looked like crescents formed from pure Wind Series Energy.
WHOOSH.
The cyan smoke completely faded away. All that remained were three streaks of light that settled on the surface of the Sky-Breaking Saber, leaving behind three fine, cyan lines running the entire length of the blade. The remaining cyan particles turned gray, like ordinary motes of dust, and scattered in the wind.
From then on, the silver blade of the Sky-Breaking Saber bore three new, fine cyan lines, like brands left by the wind.
Meanwhile, the Wind Attribute Spirit Core liquefied into a cyan fluid that enveloped the Sky-Breaking Saber. Energy continuously surged toward the blade’s edge. The changes all occurred subtly, but the saber itself now exuded a biting wind pressure. A nearly tangible whirlwind formed within the gray ball of light.
Round and round it spun, faster and faster, until it completely engulfed the Sky-Breaking Saber.
Zhao Zuo gazed at the Sky-Breaking Saber in the eye of the storm, a flicker of anticipation in his eyes.
He visualized the storm’s patterns, the pulsing of the cyan light, and the way the Spirit Core merged into the blade. ’If I could apply this process to my own Artifact Refining, I might be able to replicate an Upper Grade Magical Artifact of the same quality.’
’Unfortunately, I’m ultimately a bit too clumsy to grasp the profound mysteries behind the upgrade process.’
Moonlight streamed in through the window, creating a beautiful scene. Inside the storm, the Sky-Breaking Saber began to move. Its speed seemed slow, yet in an instant, it would be in a completely different position. It was both incredibly fast and deceptively slow.
Finally, as the Spirit Core’s Energy was gradually depleted, the transformation entered its final stage.
