Chapter 148 - 124: Spiritual Insect of Heaven and Earth
After they finished dividing the Spirit Stones, all that remained were a few Magical Artifacts, Artifact Refining materials, and various pills.
"Do you want these pills?" Shen Yunjiao fiddled with a few porcelain vials containing Purifying Spirit Pills, Replenishing Essence Pills, and several other common types of pills.
"These pills might contain some kind of suicide trap. I can’t risk taking them," said Zhao Zuo.
"Then they’re mine. The Taotie Secret Technique can devour anything, so I have no fear of poison."
"Immune to all poisons, huh."
Zhao Zuo sighed but wasn’t particularly envious. After all, she had risked her life for that small advantage.
"Let’s keep looking," Shen Yunjiao said, then picked up another scroll.
Sword Shadow Step was written on the scroll.
Zhao Zuo briefly read its contents. He found it was a footwork technique to be used with Swordsmanship, characterized by increasing one’s speed in close quarters. It enhanced the user’s battlefield adaptability, with the goal of moving like a persistent shadow, making it a rather unique Magic Skill.
Lin Hao had used Sword Shadow Step to contend with Zhao Zuo, even gaining a slight upper hand. But in the end, he had lost due to the gap in their physical strength.
"Are you going to learn it?" Shen Yunjiao closed the scroll and handed it to Zhao Zuo.
"Lin Hao obviously spent a great deal of Heart Power on Sword Shadow Step, and in the end, he still lost to me."
"Not interested." Zhao Zuo casually took the scroll and tossed it into his Storage Bag. His days were already completely booked across all twelve two-hour periods; he simply had no extra time to devote to learning Sword Shadow Step.
"You can have the rest of these Artifact Refining materials, then," Shen Yunjiao said casually.
"Alright." Zhao Zuo didn’t stand on ceremony.
The two of them divided the remaining Talismans fairly. Zhao Zuo took all the other books, as Shen Yunjiao wasn’t interested in anything outside of Cultivation.
"Oh right, I also found this on Lin Hao..."
Shen Yunjiao casually handed him a bamboo tube about seven centimeters long.
"What’s this?" Zhao Zuo asked curiously, then opened the bamboo tube.
After a few seconds, a green Gu Insect crawled out of the tube. It looked a bit like a caterpillar—its plump, round body was almost cute. Two long, slender, transparent antennae grew from the top of its head.
"A Tracking Insect?" Zhao Zuo said softly.
He had seen records of this type of Gu Insect in the books at the Scripture Pavilion.
There were many kinds of Spiritual Insects in the world, each with a myriad of different functions. Some excelled at combat, some could assist with Cultivation, and others could be used for tracking and locating, creating images, or even taking a fatal blow for their master. There were also Spiritual Insects that could produce Spiritual Objects to earn Spirit Stones.
In the Cultivation Realm, some people devoted themselves to studying Spiritual Insects and controlling them in battle, gradually giving rise to a path known as the way of the Insect Cultivator.
"That’s right. A shame it’s just an ordinary Spiritual Insect; it offers no combat bonuses."
"But this Spiritual Insect should still be worth a thousand Spirit Stones, right?" said Zhao Zuo.
Spiritual Insects of Heaven and Earth were extremely rare, so their prices were naturally high.
"You keep it. You know I’m short on Cultivation resources, and I certainly can’t afford to raise this Spiritual Insect."
"This Spiritual Insect is actually useful to me." Zhao Zuo didn’t refuse, nodding as he accepted it.
"In that case, I’ll pay you half its value—five hundred Spirit Stones."
"It’s settled then," said Shen Yunjiao.
Zhao Zuo put the Tracking Insect back into the bamboo tube. He thought for a moment, then took the Fire Spirit Snake out of his Spirit Beast Bag. He let it get acquainted with the Tracking Insect before stuffing them both into the Spirit Beast Bag at his waist.
The Tracking Insect had no combat ability, while the Fire Spirit Snake could now understand his simple commands. ’The two of them probably won’t start fighting inside the Spirit Beast Bag,’ Zhao Zuo thought.
"By the way, the person who helped Lin Hao...?" Zhao Zuo suddenly recalled something.
"His ashes are already buried."
"I didn’t get to figure out his identity. I just hope this doesn’t come back to haunt us."
’I should have checked the man’s face before getting rid of the body,’ Zhao Zuo thought. He hadn’t expected Shen Yunjiao to just... make use of the remains. In the end, he’d failed to learn the man’s identity.
"Relax... He was just an Outer Sect disciple. It shouldn’t be a big deal."
"Lin Hao had three Magical Artifacts in total. We’ll each take one of the Middle Grade ones, and the Lower Grade one is yours."
The most valuable items in the Storage Bag were the two Middle Grade Magical Artifacts, worth about three thousand Spirit Stones in total. Shen Yunjiao chose the dagger with the butterfly pattern.
The dagger was light purple, with a blade about thirteen centimeters long. Its surface was covered in floral patterns, making it look more like a weapon a woman would prefer. It was likely Zhao Qingmeng’s Magical Artifact.
"Alright." Shen Yunjiao had no objection.
Shen Yunjiao immediately refined the man’s Storage Bag and dumped all of its contents onto the ground.
The first thing that caught their eye was a pile of clothes, both men’s and women’s. The women’s clothes were mostly intimate underwear, with a wide variety of colors, styles, and even sizes.
"Well, well. Looks like this guy was quite the ladies’ man," Shen Yunjiao joked.
Zhao Zuo gathered the clothes into a pile and snapped his fingers. A flicker of Mana erupted into flame, quickly incinerating the garments and sending plumes of black smoke into the air.
Once again, Shen Yunjiao handled the various pills, since she wasn’t afraid of poison.
"Be careful. There might be drugs like Spring Breeze among these pills."
Zhao Zuo warned her. The man had clearly been a womanizer, so it was normal for him to carry a few pills in his Storage Bag to enhance the experience.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be careful," Shen Yunjiao replied.
The two continued to sort through the items. Shen Yunjiao picked up several books, while Zhao Zuo gathered all the tools and materials related to Artifact Refining.
"A Dual Cultivation Technique. You want it?" Shen Yunjiao asked, holding up a book for Zhao Zuo to see.
