Epilogue – The Tomorrow They Fought For
“I just… I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” the feminine person frowned. “I’ve been going through all these changes, sure, and I know that I’m still supposed to be me. Yet, it’s… like I just can’t do it anymore. Like, something in me broke.” They sighed.
“What exactly is it that you can’t do anymore?” Vivi asked pointedly.
“Y’know, like… I can’t just do things anymore. Before I started changing, when my dad asked me to do something or he’d ask me to spend time with him, I could. We used to spend a lot of time fixing cars together,” they explained, nervously rubbing their arm. “Or when watching football, I could at least tolerate it. But now? I just… I can’t… When Dad asks me to try helping with the car, I just kinda stand there, unsure of what to do. And watching sports just stresses me out so much now. I don’t get it.”
“Did you enjoy those activities before?”
“I… of course I did.”
“What did you enjoy about them?”
They froze as they tried to answer, words failing to form from their lips. “I… don’t remember…”
“How about this then,” Vivi paused as she considered her words carefully. “What do you miss about those times?”
“I miss Dad being proud of me,” they said. “I… oh… Is… Is that why…?”
Vivi took a deep breath. “For witches, it isn’t uncommon for the Spell of Awakening to excise behaviors and habits that are harmful for the individual’s soul. To put it another way, it removes harmful coping mechanisms and beliefs that are forced upon them to their detriment.”
“I… but…”
“You mentioned you used to watch sports with your father. What was that experience like?”
“Huh… I… kinda don’t remember a bunch. It’s funny. I can remember what I did with Dad when it came to car stuff. I can visualize what it looked and felt like, but with watching sports… there’s nothing. It kinda all just blurred together.”
“Do you remember what I said last time about dissociation?” The feminine person looked at her for a moment as they tried to remember.
“Wait… is that what you meant? I was there, I watched it, but… I wasn’t really there… that… then did I not actually like it even then?”
“Dissociation is a common coping mechanism for disengaging with something. It can be as much for self-defense as it can be to avoid conflict.”
“I… wow… that makes so much sense.” They brought their hand to their breast, their gaze resting upon their changed form.
“How have you been feeling about your changes otherwise?” They went quiet for a moment.
“I…” they finally spoke up. “Would it be wrong to say that I’m starting to like it?”
“Not at all. It took me a while too when I changed,” Vivi disclosed. “At first I was really scared to accept that I was turning into a girl, and it was scarier to admit that I was excited and thankful for it. Becoming a succubus and coming to terms with it was scary too. Now though, I can’t imagine myself any other way.”
“D-do you think I can be like that too? You know… happy that I’m a girl and a witch? Even though my dad…”
“My family was supportive of me, so I can’t give my own experience on that. It took my mother some time, but she came around to be one of the most supportive people in my life,” the witch looked at her, a glimmer of hope in their eyes. “It’s possible that he’ll come around and accept you.” The witch smiled. “However, it is possible he won’t either.” The witch’s lips fell. “But even then, while it may be hard and difficult for a while, there are plenty of people who will support you out there. The support group I mentioned last time would be a good place to start with that.”
“The trans one?” the witch asked.
“I know you’ve said you don’t see yourself as a trans woman, but-”
“No, you’re right. I think it would be good for me.” The witch smiled gently. “And… I think… I might try it… I mean if it’s okay… trying to identify as trans.”
“Labels like that are meant to help us,” Vivi encouraged. “Use them as you see fit. If it doesn’t help you, it’s okay to put them aside, but I think it’s a good idea to try. You can always open that door and then close it later if you don’t like what’s behind it.”
“Yeah… That sounds nice.”
Vivi took a deep breath. “I don’t want to prod you, but given that you asked, I’d like to check in on your preferred name and pronouns.”
The witch nodded. “I… think I’m going to try identifying as a woman… at least for now. Um… so she/they, I guess?” Vivi nodded as she jotted down a note. “As for name… I’ve always liked the name Spring.”
“Well then, it’s nice to meet you Spring.” The witch smiled, a gentle blush nipping at her cheeks.

“I’m home!” Vivi announced as she walked through the door.
“Mommy!!!” a young girlish trill assaulted her as a small pink flower bomb ran at her. Vivi giggled as she scooped up the girl who immediately buried her flower covered head into her mom’s chest, her pink leathery wings tussling about like ribbons in her hair.
“Hello, sweetie,” Vivi hugged her daughter close, catching a whiff of the sweet scent coming from her hair. She chuckled. “May, were you eating sweets earlier.”
“Mhmm! Mama bought us strawberries, so we had lady cake!” Vivi couldn’t help but laugh at the silly associations her daughter made between the treat she had and the lady fingers it used, a common adorable tendency the girl had developed.
“May, I told you not to run down the halls,” another woman called, emerging from the hallway. The vixen pouted as she gently bopped the child, her tails and ears twitching as she scolded her. “What if you tripped and hurt yourself?”
“I’m sorry, auntie Palu,” May apologized.
“I take it someone’s been a bit impish today,” Vivi teased.
“Nu-uh! I’m a succubus! Not an imp! You know that Mommy!” May pouted. Vivi simply answered by rustling the girl’s lengthy locks, bribing a giggle out of the girl.
“So, how was your day off?” Vivi asked as they strolled through the manor, her tail bobbing behind her.
“Pretty good. Wish you could’ve taken today off too, sis,” said Palu. “Mistress and Mom already retired for the night. Candi asked them for some support with something. Sounds like there’s more unrest in Gaia.”
“I wish I could say that’s surprising,” Vivi lamented. “Did you wind up having that picnic?”
“Mhmm, I helped make sandwiches with Mama!” May boasted as she wiggled out of her mom’s grasp, her wings keeping her suspended in the air. “I made the best PBJ, right Mama?” she asked as they emerged in the dining room, Erika standing across the nearby island squishing lumps of meat into meatballs.
“You sure did, sweetie,” Erika affirmed, making the tiny succubus giddy with joy as the dryad quickly rinsed her hands. “Welcome home, honey,” she went to hug Vivi, her vines caressing her, Vivi’s wings and tail reciprocating the gesture. “How was your day?”
“Pretty good. I had one client that was being difficult, but otherwise things went pretty well today.”
“Was it the one with the mandated therapy?”
“Actually no. He started opening up today. This was the time bomb couple.”
“Oh dear, that must’ve been a lot.”
“I managed to deescalate things before it got violent, but I think things will get worse before they get better,” Vivi sighed before directing her attention to the young quiet girl sitting in a high chair. The girl quietly groaned as she reached towards Vivi, as if on the verge of tears. “Oh, Eve, sweetie, what’s the matter?” Vivi cooed, scooping the small girl up, her dark green hair falling upon Vivi’s arm as her tiny white wings drooped against it. “I see, that’s what you’re after,” she giggled as the small girl nudged her chest, Vivi lowered part of her dress, giving the babe what she needed.
“Still though, that must’ve been exhausting.”
“It was a bit stressful, but I’m excited for my last client. There was a lot of improvement a lot.”
“Which one is that?”
“The new witch.”
“You mentioned they came from an abusive household, right?” Palu frowned.
“I have concerns of it. I expect next time there will be a lot we’ll have to talk about it. But she’s been taking a lot of important steps forward.”
“She?” Erika repeated. “So, she started accepting she’s a girl then?”
“More accepting anyway. Enough to consider it at least.”
“Oh, speaking of, sis. Have you gotten around to looking at the questions for Gabby’s interview yet?” Palu asked.
“Oh, the one for the anniversary of Zeus’s defeat?” Erika confirmed. “I can’t believe it’s been fourteen years since then.”
“I still need to get to that,” Vivi admitted.
“Isn’t the interview soon?” Palu frowned.
“It is,” Vivi grumbled. “I just haven’t had time. I’m going to have to cram it in tonight.”
“It’ll be fine,” Erika reassured her. “You’ve knocked every interview with her out of the park.”
“Yeah, but she’s pretty intense, which I respect. She really tries to get to the heart of things, but…” Her ears and wings drooped a little. “I feel like I’d be doing both of us a disservice if I didn’t take it seriously.”
“I know, just don’t exhaust yourself, babe.” Erika kissed her on the cheek.
“I won’t, promise.”

“Let’s see,” Vivi mumbled to herself as she leaned in on the desk. “What do you think of this? I recognize I have pretty well known ties to MID, but I hardly believe they are infallible. Like any intelligence agency, prosecutorial body, and police organization, they are inclined to enforce the norms those in power determine, which often goes hand in hand with corruption. While MID serves an important job in our relations with Gaia, they need to be scrutinized at every turn, lest they begin exploiting the populace they’re sworn to defend.”
“It’s always funny hearing you curb your words when it comes to policing. We both know that you’re all for defunding all of them,” Erika noted as she flipped another page in her book, cozy in bed.
“Unfortunately, her audience would just ignore that. Gabrielle says it’s been encouraging people to question things, but I’m not sure I believe that.”
“You could always choose the chaos route and speak about the benefits of socialism.”
“Gabby does still joke about how popular my ‘public transit used to be good and effective’ is one of her most popular clips. I could make a dig about how MID’s higher ups stole credit for our work at Fort Newton again.”
“Oh, I do love it when you do that. But I would like to hear a fresh rant too… or any rant really.”
“Yeah, but you’re biased. You like all my rants,” Vivi chuckled.
“Mmm, you are really hot when you advocate for public works projects,” the two laughed.
“Let’s see, aww, there’s nothing on the protests. That’s why she was really pissed when mentioning the question list.”
“I wish I wasn’t surprised by that.” Erika frowned. “Is that it?”
“Not quite, the next question…” she sighed. “Yeah, I expected that to be in there.”
“What is it?” Erika asked, setting her book down.
“Remember Senator Gloria’s ex-wife?”
Erika sighed. “What did that bitch do this time?”
“She’s been pushing more of the athlete crap, and Gabby’s got a question about it.”
“No wonder her daughter disowned her,” Erika grumbled.
“I’ll never understand how some people sustain themselves on such spite,” Vivi groaned. “Hmm?” She glanced at her cell phone as it lit up and began to buzz, the name ‘Carmen’ appearing upon it. She answered. “Carm, it’s late.”
She chuckled. “You always forget how much later it is here. What’s up? Oh!?” she squeaked excitedly, catching Erika’s attention. “She got that new tech job!” Vivi explained.
“Oh, really? Tell her congratulations!”
“Yeah! Eri says congrats too. I’m a little surprised though, don’t they mostly do stuff like headphones and smart watches? Oh? I forgot they had a robotics division. Carm, you know I don’t know all that technical stuff,” she giggled. “Their HQ is in Collider right? Maybe we can meet up sometime and take a day trip to Gaia. I hear Biosia can be pretty nice. Although, maybe we should wait until Eve and May are a bit older, huh?
“Speaking of Collider, did you hear about Cleo? She got in trouble with the police again. Right? They just can’t stop picking fights with people,” she sighed. “Oh, she was trying to help some woman. The pig tried arresting her for ‘loitering’ when she was just lost. It sounded like she was teleported against her will or something. Hmm? Heh, yeah I meant the actual pig man on the force. Anyway, she’s apparently letting the woman use her condo out there. Yeah, you’ll have to hit her up. I know she takes Wisp there pretty regularly. Yeah. Miss you too. Talk to you later, night!”
“Sounds like she’s doing pretty well,” Erika chuckled.
“Please, if anything went wrong for her, she and Riri would probably team up to make it go well.”
“Yeah…” Erika sighed, as she glanced at their windowsill eyeing the picture they took at the celebration party. “Still though, almost fourteen years.”
“So much has changed since then,” Vivi said nostalgically. “We’ve accomplished a lot, but we still have so much more to do.”
“Yeah, but that also means the world can be a lot better one day.”
“Yeah, it’s still exciting when you think about it.” Vivi smiled. “Well, I guess I’ll call it a night here and…” her phone buzzed again, this time making a different tone than before.
Erika sighed. “Guess duty calls.”
“She’s really lucky we’re friends.”
“I know it won’t work, but try convincing her to quit, so you can bail.”
“I wish I could. Besides, she’d only call me if people were actually in danger,” Vivi sighed. “Dang it, I wanted to cuddle and fall asleep. But if they’re calling me this late then they’re probably short-staffed.” She looked down at the phone, confirming the name she knew would be there, Candi (MID). “Don’t feel like you need to stay up.”
“And miss a night of fun when you get back? Not a chance!” Erika laughed. “Be safe out there!”
“You know it!” Vivi confidently declared. She pulled her locket out of her nightgown and flipped the latch.
A familiar wave of light covered her body, a bright cute dress appearing covered in ribbons, a purple corset covering her core. In many ways it resembled the outfit she’d worn as a teenager, only with a few updates to accommodate the mature woman she’d become, particularly emphasizing her cleavage.
She waved her wife goodbye and hurried out the room and down the hall. She passed several room, May’s excited voice echoing behind her. “Save the day, Mom!”
As she left the manor, her wings flapped, their slender shape becoming bolder and fuller as they lifted her off the ground. As she rose into the air, she summoned forth her scepter, its own wings flapping as she leaned on it to mount it, her legs dangling off it as it pulled her across the sky.
Moments later, in a busy lot, a collection of families quivered in fear, the last few embers of resistance fading out as the group of magically enhanced gangsters surrounded them. Their ring leader sneered, readying to deliver an order to ruin their lives, only for his animosity to suddenly bubble away.
Both sides entered a dreamlike daze, as the succubus in white and pink landed behind them, drawing a heart in the air, one of several she’d drawn already. She snapped her fingers, the heart gaining form and pinkish color as it flew at the gangsters. The charmed men felt themselves compelled to turn around and face the woman.
They watched as the woman’s wings fluttered and waved her arms about, posing cutely, a hand on her hip, the other at her lips as she blew a kiss filling the gangsters with a variety of emotions. Some felt a creeping fear. Some felt their lust fall into a cavernous abyss for a reason they couldn’t explain. The women felt their cheeks grow warm. And a handful of the men pine for something else entirely, a sense of envy filling them. Regardless of what they felt, the reason was all too clear. They were under her spell.
“Prism Magenta, at your service!” Vivi proclaimed with a wink.
