Chapter 147: A Few Toys
Yu Xian and Nora headed over to Big Mouth Barbecue in the Eastern District. After ordering their food, they pulled out their phones to text their families not to save any dinner for them.
Nora had become quite close to her new guardian, who was exceptionally skilled at preparing Blood Feasts, and had taken to having dinner with her all the time now. Since she would not be going back to eat tonight, she naturally needed to let her guardian know.
Yu Xian, meanwhile, contacted Su Zhuo. Su Zhuo happened to be busy at the company. The Namoan controlling her had done many things in her name, and she had to set everything right. She would probably have to spend the night at the office.
Once the two of them finished explaining the situation, they placed their phones on the table.
Nora remembered the last time she had come to this restaurant with Yu Xian. "Yu Xian, what happened to that classmate who awakened his werewolf bloodline?"
Yu Xian smiled. "Li Cheng? Brother Zhang sent him to the Combat Police Academy. He'll be back after a bit."
Nora took a sip of her blood tea and wistfully said, "You know, when I was a kid, I wanted to be an officer of the Combat Police unit and help maintain order in Ice City. I thought they were just the coolest thing ever."
"They're not cool anymore?" Yu Xian asked.
Nora shook her head, then looked at him and blushed. "Now I think joining Qilin is even cooler."
Unfortunately, because of her background, she could not join Qilin.
Yu Xian could not help smiling as he thought of all the people he had met in Qilin. "I also think joining Qilin was the best decision I've ever made!"
Noticing her dejection, he comforted her. "Nora, if I become a squad captain one day, would you be willing to join my squad?"
Qilin's squad captains had considerable authority. As long as someone possessed Huaxia citizenship and had no criminal record, a captain could recruit them into their team.
Each team had a strict limit on its total number of squad members. If a captain had poor judgment and recruited someone useless, the entire team would suffer for it. It would affect their year-end evaluation, and if they failed the evaluation three years in a row, the team could even face disbandment.
She reminded him. "But my father is Marcus."
Yu Xian smiled. "It's you who I want in my team, not your father!"
Nora added worriedly. "But what if the progenitor intervenes?"
Recently, there had been growing calls among the Blood Race to summon her to their headquarters in Romulus. They wanted her to perform the First Bite on those who passed the trials as soon as possible, to see whether she could create a new generation of vampires immune to sunlight. However, since her father was Marcus, no one could force her, unless Marcus agreed or their progenitor intervened.
Yu Xian let out a relaxed chuckle. "The progenitor? Just wait until you're part of my squad. I bet he'll approve without a second thought."
The progenitor of the Blood Race was only a Tiger-rank expert, albeit an exceptionally powerful one at that. Yu Xian had become strong enough that he no longer considered the progenitor to be much of a threat. Unfortunately, he had already exhausted his divine power of deceit. Otherwise, he would have been capable of vaporizing the progenitor in an instant.
Besides, Yu Xian had not even become a captain yet. One needed to be a member of Qilin for at least a year to get even a chance of promotion. He could hardly imagine how powerful he would become by then. Though, he was certain of one thing. By that time, forget the progenitor of the Blood Race, even if the entire Blood Race came after him, he would be able to deal with them.
Nora, however, thought Yu Xian was making empty promises. Although his spar with Wang Xingnuo had astonished her, Yu Xian had been a vampire for less than a year. The progenitor, meanwhile, had spent five full centuries drinking blood and accumulating power. Even a fool could tell which of them was stronger.
Still, she did not expose him. Instead, she rested her cheek on one hand, looked at Yu Xian, and played along with a smile. "It would be wonderful if I could really join Qilin."
She actually held many of her dreams close to her heart. Traveling, sampling all sorts of cuisines, staying by Yu Xian's side. Her joining Qilin was only an excuse to be near him, mirroring the reason Yu Xian wanted to attend university.
At that moment, their food arrived. The two enjoyed their meal, then took their time walking home together.
Only after seeing Nora safely reach her home did Yu Xian teleport back to his own house. He washed up, pulled out a spatial ring, and glanced over at Eternal Purity, who was currently sitting on the living room sofa. "Auntie, these are all the materials I have. I'll have to trouble you."
Eternal Purity accepted the spatial ring. "What kinds of defensive equipment do you need?"
Yu Xian thought for a moment. "Rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings—anything is fine!"
He curiously watched her, wanting to see how she crafted equipment. To his surprise, she merely pinched the spatial ring between her fingers and gave it a gentle shake before handing it back to him.
Yu Xian's eyes widened in utter bewilderment. "It's done?"
This was completely different from how he had imagined supernatural equipment was crafted. She had merely shaken the spatial ring without even taking the materials out, and that was enough?
Eternal Purity casually said, "They're only toys."
"Toys..." Yu Xian accepted the ring, at a loss for words. If she called Dragon-rank equipment toys, then the Dragon Shield and Dream Butterfly he carried were probably little more than trash in her eyes.
He put on the spatial ring and immediately sensed five simply designed rings inside, along with two plain bracelets, two necklaces, and two pairs of earrings. A ring instantly appeared in his hand, and he cast Appraisal on it.

"One point of energy can withstand one attack."
Yu Xian hurriedly counted the number of zeros in its energy value, and his eyes widened in disbelief. "So... once someone puts on this ring, a Dragon-rank powerhouse would have to attack them a million times before breaking through its defense?"
"As long as the attacks do not exceed Dragon-rank strength," Eternal Purity said.
He quickly examined the remaining rings and discovered that they were all Energy Guardian Rings. If someone wore all five at once, a Dragon-rank powerhouse would have to attack them five million times before breaking through their defenses. Furthermore, all five million attacks would have to be delivered at a Dragon-rank powerhouse's full power. If an attack failed to meet that threshold, it would not even consume a single point of energy.
The mere thought made Yu Xian's scalp tingle. Looking at the Energy Guardian Rings inside the spatial ring, he instantly decided how to distribute them: one for Su Zhuo, one for himself, one for Nora, one for Zhang Shou, and the last one for Yu Lie. During the Namo Race incident, if Yu Lie had not placed complete trust in him and withstood the immense pressure from all sides on his behalf, Yu Xian could have become a wanted fugitive.
After deciding how to distribute the rings, he turned his attention to the two bracelets. He took one out and immediately cast Appraisal on it.
