Chapter 66: Yu Xians Tactical Wit
While Scott and Nightblade searched for an opportunity to strike back, Zhang Shou's voice came through the bubble in Yu Xian's ear.
—Salted Fish, I've got all the explosives you wanted. Want me to teleport them over now?
Before coming to intercept the intruders, Yu Xian had sent Zhang Shou back to get more explosives from the armory. He had discovered that explosives were actually incredibly useful, especially when combined with his spatial bubbles. They left enemies with virtually no chance to evade.
The explosives manufactured by Qilin were extremely powerful. Their only drawback was that they were difficult to land on a target. Used at close range, they could easily injure allies. Used from afar, they were too obvious. Given the reaction speed of most supernatural beings, escaping the blast radius before detonation was a trivial matter.
As a result, these explosives were generally reserved for dealing with less intelligent supernatural creatures or slow-moving, colossal beasts. Unless deployed within highly specific terrain, their effectiveness against human supernatural beings was abysmally poor.
In fact, the military branch that used them most frequently was the navy. Many supernatural creatures living in the ocean were enormous. A handful of explosives was often enough to blow one apart.
Yu Xian had unloaded his stash of explosives on the Perfect Lifeform. Zhang Shou couldn't have come at a better time. He said, "Good. Send them over."
Moments later, a steady stream of explosives arrived through the bubbles. He quickly stored the various explosives inside one of his spatial bubbles. With these explosives, his lack of offensive power was significantly mitigated.
His silver threads couldn't kill even the relatively weaker Scott, let alone Nightblade, who wielded dual blades. In fact, Yu Xian suspected that even without the blades, Nightblade's defenses were probably strong enough that the silver threads wouldn't be able to harm him at all.
Just as the sight of a fully grown tiger instinctively filled a person with fear, Nightblade gave off a similar aura of intimidation with every move of his. He was obviously strong. Even if he had not yet reached Tiger rank, he was undoubtedly at the upper Wolf rank.
The two men on the ground suddenly split up. One sprinted to the right, while the other dashed to the left. Their plan was simple. Once they were separated, the enemy in the sky could focus on only one target, allowing the other to launch an attack.
Sometimes the simplest plans were the most effective. Unless Yu Xian possessed wide-area perception abilities, he could keep track of only one of them.
Under normal circumstances, for Yu Xian, the obvious opponent to pursue would have been Nightblade, the greater threat. However, Yu Xian had a feeling that Scott was actually the more dangerous of the two. So, when they split up, he immediately focused his attention on Scott and directed the silver threads to converge on him.
On the ground, Scott narrowly avoided a silver thread and frowned. Damn it. He's targeting me. Is it because I used the Killing Intent Tracking Arrow? Did that put him on guard?
Yu Xian's instincts were correct. Although Scott was weaker than Nightblade, the weapons and treasures at his disposal far surpassed Nightblade's. Given an opening, he could unleash destructive power far greater than Nightblade.
Unfortunately for Scott, Yu Xian had locked onto him. Scott simply had no opportunity to use those treasures. Even if he did, Yu Xian would likely have enough time to react and redirect the attack back onto him with his spatial abilities. At this point, he could only place his hopes on Nightblade.
Suddenly, a silver-armored figure appeared in front of Scott and charged forward with a steel blade in hand. Scott had not expected his enemy to engage him in close combat. He let out a cold sneer, and a dagger instantly appeared in his hand. As both of them closed the distance between them and struck simultaneously, the dagger sliced through the steel blade with ease.
Without breaking momentum, Scott drove the dagger straight into the armored figure's chest. However, the moment he pushed the dagger in, the smile on his face vanished. No. That's not quite right. Something's wrong. This does not feel right.
The next instant, the armor exploded. The impact sent Scott flying backward and crashing into a boulder. Spiderweb-like cracks spread across the boulder's surface.
High above, Yu Xian saw that the outcome was all but decided and smiled. Combat had never been about pure strength. It was about brains. By weaving a hollow suit of armor entirely out of silver threads and packing it to the brim with explosives, he had effortlessly baited Scott into a trap.
On the ground, Scott spat out a mouthful of blood. Before he could even tend to his injuries, he looked down and saw fifty explosives waiting for him.
Yu Xian followed the principle of striking while the enemy was weak and showing no mercy. This second explosion was far more powerful than the first. The explosion instantly turned Scott into a battered ragdoll, his body jerking uncontrollably as it was flung through the air.
A spatial ability user backed by technology. Who knew the destructive output could be this terrifying? This thought surfaced in Scott's mind at the very last second. Then, his vision went black as he lost consciousness.
When the explosion subsided, silver threads extended from countless tiny bubbles. Only after cutting Scott into pieces did one thread carefully remove the spatial ring from his finger. Another located the dagger that had been blasted away. The weapon was undoubtedly a supernatural weapon and likely worth a considerable sum.
After collecting all the spoils, Yu Xian deployed another hundred explosives, completely reducing Scott's remains to dust. The vitality of most supernatural beings far exceeded that of ordinary humans. This was especially true for vampires, werewolves, and fortunate individuals who possessed abilities such as Pangu Immortality. At higher levels, some could survive even if only their head remained intact.
Qilin's internal records contained countless case studies proving that when weeding out an enemy, one had to pull them up by the roots. Evil had to be completely eradicated, and a foe could never be granted even the slightest chance of a comeback. To do otherwise was to guarantee future regret.
Only after confirming that Scott was unquestionably dead did Yu Xian turn his attention to the direction on his right. Now it was Nightblade's turn. He vanished from the bubble he was in. When he reappeared, he was already inside another bubble some distance away.
Although Yu Xian lacked the spare attention necessary to constantly monitor the second enemy, he had still directed one of his bubbles to trail the path the man had taken. As long as the target had not changed course too drastically, the bubble should not have fallen too far behind.
Seated inside a bubble high above the battlefield, Yu Xian scanned the ground below, but he could find no trace of Nightblade. "Where is he? When the enemy is exposed and I'm hidden, I can eliminate them one by one. When the enemy is hidden and I'm exposed, proceed with caution..."
Immediately, his instincts warned him that something was wrong. Without hesitation, he shifted positions again, teleporting into the spatial bubble closest to the Perfect Lifeform.
Whatever Nightblade was planning, he simply wouldn't play along. After all, the enemy's ultimate objective was either the Wickedness Purging Squad or the Perfect Lifeform. No matter how well he hid himself or how many detours he took, he would eventually have to come here. Yu Xian had no intention of playing hide-and-seek and putting himself in danger.
Meanwhile, Nightblade, who was disguised as an ordinary boulder, kept his eyes fixed on the sky. Because of Scott's arrow, the hidden enemy had changed positions once earlier. Finding him in the vast expanse overhead would take time.
Nightblade had complete confidence in Scott's abilities. Even if Scott couldn't defeat their enemy, Scott would at least be able to survive. That would give Nightblade more than enough time to locate the opponent in the sky.
Nightblade's expression grew increasingly grim as he continued scanning the sky. He's hiding well.
He was confident that the moment he locked onto his target, he could eliminate this troublesome foe with a single strike.
